Alpha's Human Luna

Chapter 16

Tears are streaming down my cheeks. "Can you tell me why it is so important to you and the pack?"

However, I can still feel him gripping my hand in his. I recover control of my emotions by taking several deep breaths. David charges ahead, his face set in stone. "The moon keeps watching over the alpha and his subjects,"

I'm taken aback. David releases his grip on my hand. Moving away from my bed, he opens and closes the door behind him, leaving me alone with my thoughts. Sitting on my uncomfortable bed, starring at my swaddled infant, I thought about.

I'm completely naive when it comes to the destiny. I may have been cursed with a life filled with tension, battles, and wolves that change into humans.

What has occurred to me is a mystery to me. I rushed into the shower to get rid of the dried sweat and oils that had collected.

Allison knocks on my door and informs me that it is dinner time.

Everyone has taken a seat and begun to eat. Silver lights and exquisite liquor bottles adorn the enormous dining table's centerpiece. The lights were always on the table, but they were never turned on. Every stride I take is followed by a pair of eyes and a quiet whisper from the crowd. It doesn't matter to me. I take advantage of the available seat and finish my dinner. Everyone else begins to eat at the same time as I do.

After finishing my roll and slicing into my steak, Jessica coughs. I immediately stop what I'm doing. I look her in the eyes.

"I'm pleased you're alright, Susan," he adds, and those who don't know him nod their heads in approval. Hunter draws my attention to himself by clearing his throat. He takes a bite of his steak and then opens his mouth to speak to me. "Then why aren't you being clean about what happened?" Asks Hunter.

Neme lashes out at him, jabbing him in the side and saying something. As I do so, I slump my fork against David, he observes and inquires.

"Hunter, this isn't your issue at all. It's a contest between me and David." I take a bite of my food with my fork.

The sound of silverware clinking and soft conversation fills the dining room. I'm the last one to finish my meal. As I take a look around the room, I see that more food has been devoured than normal. I turn to David for guidance. "Something is about to happen. What's the big deal?" In my presence, David lifts his brows. His cup lays on the plate in front of him.

"There will be a full moon soon. During full moons, it is typical for women to perform maternity rites and go night hunting."

I take a seat in my chair, my chin resting on my hand. "Do you want to go to a mate's party?"

David stroked the back of his neck. "Weddings are conducted during full moons when we are at our closest proximity to the goddess of the moon. A great deal of energy, strength, and senses are required for a mating ritual. Following the wedding, couples may choose to either hunt with the rest of the pack or stay in a honeymoon hut for the night."

According to films, they return to their previous life as happily married couples.

"So, there's a wedding. Isn't it a wolfy expression?"

Possibly in response to my weak knowledge of all things wolf-related, David cracks a grin. "It's similar to a human union. It's only that the habits now are different than centuries before."

I nod my head slowly. "Will I be able to see one then?"

David's lips twitch in a joking smile. "Yes, Susan, that's correct. And every mating rite is incomplete without a Luna."

It seems that I'm participating in the mating rituals in some way. Will I be one of the sacrificial offerings? " A Luna is an expert in the art of mating rites. You manage to keep it all together. You strengthen the bonds. For centuries, a red ribbon has been wrapped around the wrists of destined lovers and knotted as a symbol of their commitment to one another. To be alone is the only way out of this situation."

David gives a firm nod.

Hunter cracks a grin next to me. I had completely forgotten that everyone else was still there when we were talking.

Hunter sighs, a knowing smile on his lips as he shakes his head. I'm perplexed by the way Neme looks at Hunter. "There's a reason he's called Beta."

Jessica makes a clapping motion with her hands, drawing everyone's attention. She flashes a smile.

"It's past time to clean up. Thank you to everyone who came out to support us. We'll see you again tomorrow." We all rise to our feet,.

David's hand rests on one of my fingers. I raise my head, perplexed. He doesn't crack a smile.
