After the Divorce: Crushed on My Lawyer Ex-wife

Chapter 240 by GloryWrites

#240 “Now, Off You Go.”

In the morning, Alexander woke up in nervous anticipation. He couldn’t wait to propose to Sophia and hoped she would accept. Sophia was still sleeping, pressed against him in the bed.

Carefully, Alexander slid out of bed, not wanting to disturb Sophia’s peaceful sleep. He tiptoed to the desk and wrote a note to Sophia. “Don’t forget about my mother’s party tonight. I’ll meet you there at 7.” He placed the note on the bedside table where she would easily find it.

As he was about to leave the room, he heard Sophia’s voice.

“You get out of bed like a lover. Fuck and ditch,” Sophia grumbled, her voice thick with sleep.

Alexander sensed the accusation in her tone but couldn’t help but laugh. “Oh, my love. There’s no way you can get rid of me that easily.”

“Oh, you left me a note. For your mother’s party. You know what’s just missing?”

“What?” Alexander asked, curious.

“An explanation for why you’re disappearing again.”

“I told you twenty-four hours, but I think it’s only been 12.”

“Alexander, please. We’re not little kids, stop it. You said I would find out today and…”

“And I intend to keep my promise. You’ll find out today. Now, I’m going out, and from tomorrow everything will be different. I’ll see you tonight, right?”

Sophia said nothing. Last night’s romance had evaporated the moment she woke up alone in bed.

“Have a nice day,” she said in an icy tone.

“Ah, not like that,” said Alexander, his tone softened.

He crossed the distance to her and pulled her into a tight hug. Sophia opened her mouth to protest, but Alexander didn’t give her a chance, kissing her passionately.

Sophia tried to push him away, but he held her tightly. It only took her a few seconds before she completely surrendered to the sensation. She parted her lips and was completely lost as Alexander growled in satisfaction.

“Now if you’re done sulking, my love. I’m running late.”

“For what?” Sophia asked, her last hope showing in her voice.

“Nice try. Until tonight.” With a smile, Alexander left the room, leaving Sophia alone with her thoughts.

As the day waned, Sophia’s heart remained heavy with unresolved feelings. She had been wrestling with the decision all day-should she even go to Caroline’s party? She mulled it over, the unanswered questions lingering in her mind. Finally, as the sun dipped below the horizon, Sophia made her decision. She was too angry with Alexander. He didn’t call her all day, nor did he invite her to lunch like they usually did.

Sophia stayed late in the office. It was already 8 o’clock when she received a message from Alexander asking her where she was. Sophia ignored him.

The cleaner, a kindly older woman named Mrs. Jenkins, came in, wide- eyed as she saw Sophia still at work.

“Sophia, darling, you’re still here?” she asked in disbelief.

Sophia looked up, slightly startled. ” Yes, Mrs. Jenkins. I was just finishing up a few things.”

Mrs. Jenkins shook her head, a gentle smile on her lips. “My dear, since you’ve been with Alexander, you never stay this late. It’s a good sign. It means you found something more important than work-true love.”

Sophia’s cheeks flushed. “Thank you, Mrs. Jenkins. I needed to hear that.”

Mrs. Jenkins patted Sophia’s hand affectionately. “Now, off you go. Go to him. Whatever he did, it’s better to talk than to hide here.”

Sophia nodded, feeling a weight lifting off her shoulders. “You’re right. Thank you. Goodnight, Mrs. Jenkins.”

As Sophia made her way out of the office, she felt a renewed sense of purpose. She knew what she needed to do. She grabbed her bag and headed to Caroline’s party, her heart lighter than it had been all day.

Alexander sat in the beautifully adorned room, his heart pounding with nervous anticipation. He glanced at his watch, anxiously awaiting Sophia’s arrival. Everything was set for his marriage proposal, but he couldn’t shake off the sadness and anxiety, fearing she wouldn’t show up because he had pushed her away with this secret. Evelyn and Kyle were there with him, offering comfort and reassurance.

Evelyn placed a hand on Alexander’s shoulder. “Don’t worry, Alex. Sophia will come. You just have to trust that she will.”

Kyle nodded in agreement. “Yeah, man. She’ll come. You’ll see.”

Alexander forced a smile, trying to conceal his disappointment and anxiety. “Thanks, guys. I hope you’re right.”

Just then, his phone buzzed with a message from Sophia. Alexander’s heart leaped as he read the text: “On my way. Be there soon.”

He glanced at the beautifully decorated room, the place he had meticulously prepared for the proposal. His heart swelled with love for Sophia, and he hoped she would understand.

As he waited for her, the minutes seemed to stretch on endlessly. Finally, Alexander heard the doorbell ring.
