Chapter It’s bought us time 4 pm 19th Oct 2180
“Vicky?” Ginny said.
“Yes, Ginny.”
“Can you please show us what that STU is transmitting?”
On the pale cream starship wall they could see a panoramic view of the field that the cows were in.
The image was wobbling slightly.
“That’s the cow slowly walking about,” explained Vicky.
“Can the STU keep transmitting this feed for as long ...,” Ginny said.
“The STU will be able to maintain its energy both from the sunlight and from the electrical energies within the beast,” Vicky said. “Consequently, it will be able to keep sending this data feed until we request it to stop.”
“That’s great, Vicky,” Ginny said.
“Ginny?” Vicky asked.
“Yes?”
“You do realise how expensive STUs are don’t you?” Vicky said.
“Meaning?” Ginny said.
“Meaning that attaching that STU to an animal ...”
“To a lovely ginger cow,” Ginny interrupted.
“Even so,” continued Vicky. “I fail to see what useful purpose has been achieved in doing such a frivolous thing.”
Gabriel nodded in agreement.
“That STU,” said Ginny, with the exasperated air of a teacher trying to explain something to a very dim pupil, “has just bought us two things.”
“What has it bought, Ginny?” Vicky asked.
“It’s bought us time, Vicky. And it’s also going to buy us information.”
