Zero to Infinity

Chapter CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE

Back on earth, Gordon continued to wreak havoc. Gordon slipped out when Jenny would sleep, leaving her to her bed warm and an empty unguarded house. He had a goal now, one that he was set on achieving. He would eradicate all the Theorians before they could marry and take over. If he couldn’t convince Jenny, then he would own her. He spent his days scowling the earth for any sign of more Theorians. He was relentless in his pursuit, never stopping for a break. He had to succeed, for the sake of his own people and for the sake of Jenny.

Finally, after weeks of searching, he found Jacob. Scoring the final touchdown for his home team, Jacob did a half jig in the endzone and received congratulations from his teammates.

Leaving the field, Jacob headed for the locker rooms. He showered and packed up for home. With success on his mind, he relished in his endeavors with a small grin on his face.

“You might want to wipe that smile off your face”

“who’s there?”

“Won’t matter, cause you’ll never need to get to know me!”

Gordon moved in for the kill, but Jacob was prepared. Jacob had been prepared since he met Zero and Jenny.

Gordon and Jacob were locked in a brutal fight in the locker room. Being skilled shifters, they changed into every animal you could think of, focused on a more effective tactical advantage. The fight went on for hours, as they destroyed everything in the room. They bit and clawed at each other, neither one able to gain an advantage.

Finally, Jacob managed to get the upper hand. He pinned Gordon to the ground and prepared to deliver the killing blow. But at the last second, Gordon shifted into a grizzly bear, and Jacob was no match for his powerful claws. He was clawed up in a matter of seconds. Despite the physical damage, Jacob knew the history and quickly shifted into a Hydra. Giving him the ability to regrow a head from the severed skin of his back, Jacob regained the advantage.

The locker room was covered in blood and gore, and the only sound was the grizzly bear’s savage growls. With his back to Jacob, Gordon looked down at his bloody hands. He felt powerful.

“Is that it?” Jacob said from behind.

“What?” Gordon said as he turned to see Jacob standing on with a scorpion stinger in the air. Flashes of his youth caused Gordon to cower and retreat to the skies. Jacob sat. Panting and pressed as he attempted to catch his breath from the all-nighter.

“It’s been a while since I had to use that,” Jacob said with a smile as he retracted the scorpion stinger.

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen you do that before,” a voice from the shadows said with a hint of admiration in his voice.

“Do what?”

“Use your powers for something other than cheating in the games.”

“What do you mean?”

“well, You always seemed to use your abilities for mischief or to sports.“, said Prosper.

Prosper was a dorky kid at the school who had a fascination with the supernatural. Prosper was always a bit of an outsider at school. He was never quite sure why, but he always felt like he didn’t quite fit in. But he knew that Jacob was special and he admired him for it.

One day, Prosper finally summoned the courage to talk to Jacob. He was thrilled when Jacob actually responded to him, and the two of them quickly became friends. Prosper was amazed by all the things Jacob could do and he was constantly asking him how it felt.

“What are you doing here, anyway?“, Jacob asked

“Well, I was coming to congratulate you on the game. Didn’t want to ‘cramp your style’, you being a superstar and all” Prosper said.

Jacob laughed. “Oh yea, well, thanks, man. You’ve always had my back”.

“That thing back there... will it be coming back?” Prosper said with worry.

“Its likely. Listen man, I’m going to have to leave for a while. I think its time I...”

“Totally dude, you are the man.”

“You think you could let my grandma know. Tell her... tell her I went home?”

“Anything for you, Jake!“, Prosper said with excitement.

“Thanks man, you’re the best.”

Jacob walked away from Prosper and towards the field.

“I’m sorry,” Jacob said, “but I have to go”.

Prosper looked at him, and then toward the sky as he watched Jacob lift off into the air, clothes dropping to the ground.

“Goodbye”, Prosper said, as he watched with admiration.
