Chapter 41. Training
Emily’s point of view:
Ever since the Goddess had told me that I still have all of my powers, I became much more aware of them. Much more used to them too.
Back then, I didn’t like the fear of the Mage’s Fury coming to rush in, or the devastating thoughts that came along when using magic as offense, or how nice the warrior made me feel when I slit someone’s throat. So, I was happy that I thought that I lost those powers, that they would have been transferred to my children.
But now that I found out that I never lost them, and that they were always with me, but never shown themselves much, I know I can control them. The awareness that they were dormant, due to my own thinking and stubbornness, made me realise that I can summon or stop them, whenever I want.
There is no more fear of the Mage’s Fury either, as I know that I can stop it when it comes. I just have to not create another one of those magical glass orbs again…
I have to share my thoughts with my friends, and accept my feelings as they come. I have to rely on the fact that the feelings that I get, when my mage or warrior comes in, that they are good feelings. I have to accept those emotions, and do good with them.
“Emily!” Nicolai yelled.
“Yes, why are you yelling?” I asked.
“Well, I only called for you, for four times already. I know that you struggle with your emotions, but stop thinking too much about it! You have to start feeling it, not thinking about it.” Nicolai said while hovering over a large book in the library.
Nicolai was teaching me some spells, or actually get through them with me. Much of the spells were written in an language that I didn’t know before, but as we went from spell to spell, the words were becoming acquainted with me. After hearing a word once or twice, I knew what it meant, and as we were doing this for the past few hours already, I could understand the basics of how the spells were formed.
Spells always cost energy, the bigger the spell, the more energy is required. So, let’s say, turning someone into a temporary frog, costs less than creating a wall of ice. Or turning someone’s hair blue, costs less than summoning several magic orbs that fly around you and fight by your side.
But even after several hours of reading and casting spells, I was wearing out, but not to the extent of me getting totally exhausted.
“No, in fact, I’m getting more tired of going through these spells with you, then you are with actually casting them.” Nicolai said.
Nicolai has been teaching me a dozen of spells already, ranging from transformation to elevation and from defence to offence. All sorts of things came to pass by.
“I hope that you’re not teaching Kaden some of the more destructive spells?” I asked him.
“No, but he is picking up the spells rather quickly though. Maybe not as quick as you, but still, I’m almost through with the more childly spells. Someday, he has to learn the more damaging ones.” Nicolai said.
“Yes, but not now. I will explain to him that he will get to learn the other spells when he is at least ten years of age.” I said.
I know that he has the talent for it, but I’m his mother, and he is just a child. Hell, he is about to turn five in a few months! He shouldn’t be taught how to make someone bleed out of his nostrils until there is no more blood left to bleed. He should be playing with other children and learn how to share, enjoy and make new friends.
I saw Nicolai frown at me, I know that Kaden is the son of the Chosen one, but he is still my little boy.
“Alright, you can teach him some battle spells. But only defence for now! No offense!” I stated at Nicolai.
“Yes Milady.” Nicolai chuckled.
“By the way Emily, I was wondering something. Your Rangers were able to learn about the ancient power, which resulted them into finding out that they could communicate with their animals better, and have blue glowing eyes and enhanced skills in times of battle. But since you have never lost your powers, and since Brock became aware that he could use his warrior’s abilities, I’m guessing that you are maybe also able to teach our mages and warriors the ancient abilities. Maybe not in the same way as you taught your hunters, but still, somewhere I believe that it is possible. Don’t you?”
I never thought of it actually. But it could indeed be a possibility, right? I mean, when Brock lost his memory, his mind stood open for new things, that’s when he found out that he could summon his own agility and rage of that of a warrior. So, what if there are mages and warriors that could do the same? Open their minds to accept a new way of thinking?
“Yes exactly! But as you know, hunters are docile creatures, people of nature and animals. Their minds, and thus also your mind, are thinking more freely than that of strict warriors, or that of intelligent but equally stubborn mages. Although I would like to test my theory on myself first. If I may?”
“I’m open for it, I’m even excited actually! But how do you suppose we do this?” I asked him.
“You are going to train me. You are going to teach me how you feel when you summon several shields at the same time, how you can push someone away with just the flick of your hand, and you are going to explain to me, in all details, how you feel and act when the Mage’s Fury arises.” Nicolai said.
“Right, but we have to be outside for this, and I have to eat something first.”
“Okay, explain to me again how you create other shields.” Nicolai said.
We were standing in a secluded section in the forest, to not have prying eyes onto us. I had to try for myself first if I was still able to summon multiple shields at once. But I remembered how I did that, and quickly had three shields up again.
But Nicolai wasn’t even close. We have been trying for him to do it for a million times already. I had explained to him how I did it, he even read my mind while doing it. Then he tried and did practically just the same as I did, only he couldn’t pull up a second shield.
What if it is just the same as with the hunter? The Rangers don’t have the ability to do all of the things I can. There was one that could look through the eyes of his owl as it flew away from him, and another could shoot a poisonous arrow. But there was no one who possessed more than one talent.
“So, we have to figure out what mine is then?” Nicolai said.
“Yes, with the hunters it is based on how they think, feel and behave. If they have the talent to be fast, faster in shooting arrows, faster at running and generally be faster in anything, then they have more chance of using the arcane shot. And look at Axel, he is more outgoing with the care of animals, so he can master two of them at the same time, considering he has both Argent and Koda. But he doesn’t have the ability to shoot an arcane, poisonous or fire shot.” I explained.
“But that doesn’t really work with mages right? I mean, we have magic, that’s it.”
“No, that’s not entirely true, there are mages who can’t use levitation spells right?”
“Well, every mage can use all spells. There is no specific limitation. It’s just that some of us prefer to do one thing, other than using another.” He said.
“Okay, intelligent yet stubborn, like you said before. So, with mages it’s a matter of choice, not capability?”
“Yes, you could say that.”
“Alright, then what is your talent in being a mage? What do you like the most? Maybe we can enhance what you like to do.” I asked.
“Hmm… well not shields clearly. Maybe my levitation and telekinetic spells?” He doubtfully said.
“Nope, your doubting it, and if you do then it’s not your passion. Wait, I got an idea.”
