Zenora, The Dragon's Fury

Chapter 40. Normal Day in Life

It has been several days now, after the odd coronation, and I was still getting used to it. So, to release some stress, we are just going to see how Ursai’s new cub was doing, and took a leisure walk while at it.

“But where are we going to have the party?” Natalya asked Cirilya when we were walking through the forest.

“Outside.” Cirilya said.

“Outside? But how are we going to take care of lights and foods and such?” Natalya asked.

“Lights is my department, so don’t worry about that. Food however is not, you have to come up with an idea yourself.” Anna sternly said.

“Why not organise a banquet? You can make most of the food up front, and people get to pick and choose whatever they want for themselves. And for location, I’d suggest you pick the grassy plains between the servant’s house and the cliff. Then, build a staircase from the side of the cliff downwards, to the beach for people to enjoy a walk at night. I even believe that the date that you have chosen, has a full moon, so the sea should look beautiful at night.” Mila said.

We all stopped dead in our tracks. We turned around and looked at the newest edition to our ‘family’.

Mila is Axel’s new girlfriend, and even though she gets really touchy with him, almost showing no shame at all, she happens to be the most quiet person I know. She hardly speaks up, and if she does, it has been difficult to understand her, as she talks with the volume of a sleeping rabbit.

“I, I- I’m sorry my Queen, I shouldn’t have talked before being asked.” Mila apologised deeply.

I found it strange already that she was walking behind us, not talking at all. But now I get it, due to her apology I understand that she feels somewhat left in the dark with us. I can imagine that it can be difficult to get a place squished in between our solid group as it is already.

Feeling an outsider is something that I felt, when at university with Anna. Anna always did the talking in groups, as I was not feeling comfortable when everyone was staring at me. I’m feeling much more secure now, but I had to grow into that role of speaker.

“Mila, please, you can talk whenever you want. You are part of our family, as you are the girlfriend of Axel. So please don’t worry about that. And besides, we are surprised to hear you speak up, and I think that we are more surprised by your great ideas. Am I right girls?” I said to her and watched the others as well.

“Yes, it is actually a marvellous idea! How did you come up with it?” Natalya asked her.

Mila blushed, she wasn’t used to this kind of attention, and I guess my title was a bit overwhelming her as well.

“Well, my mother always organised the greatest parties for my family’s birthdays, weddings, and funerals even. But there isn’t really a job here in Zenora to accommodate such skills and ideas, so my mother never had the chance to do something with it.” Mila said.

“Does your mom live close by, and what is her name?” I asked her.

“Uhm, her name is Rebecca and she lives in Groyhull. Why would you ask me that, Milady?” Mila asked.

“Hmm, let’s see how Byron is doing, shall we?” I said.

Everyone looked confused at me, they didn’t know about Byron yet. I guess I never had taken the chance to talk about him after we got home from rescuing the slaves.

I communicated with him, with the mages mind link. He was surprised to hear me, but knew who Rebecca was, and would ask her to come as soon as possible to the castle.

“Well that’s settled then.” I said with a smile.

“Who did you talk to now, Mills?” Anna said.

“Oh, just the mayor of Groyhull. Your mother will arrive here in a few days I assume.”

“What? But why?” Mila asked.

Anna, Natalya and Cirilya laughed, they knew exactly what I just did. Mila probably know too by now, but she wouldn’t accept it yet, considering how she was looking at me just now.

“I guess that your mother and you have a new job.” Natalya said.

Mila’s eyes grew wide, and her mouth dropped open.

“Event-managers. That’s what you will become, unless you want to do whatever you did before?” I asked her.

“No, yes, no! I mean, yes! Yes Milady, we both would be honoured to take upon such a job! Thank you!” She yelled at me.

“Good, because Natalya was getting on my nerves, nagging about how busy she always is with the servants!” I said.

“I’m not!”

“Yes you are!”

“Not!” Natalya screamed and punched my shoulder, at which I laughed.

“So, are you up to organise a grand banquet for the coronation of a King and Queen? For let’s say eight hundred people, and that within a week or three?” I asked Mila, when Natalya and I stopped bickering.

Pressure? What pressure?

Mila gulped. “We will do our best, Milady!”

“Good! Natalya will show you where to get resources, funding and whatsoever. But, now I want to see Ursai’s new cub.”

Brock’s point of view:

“Mommy, when will we see her?” Tyler asked his mother.

Just as all of the other nights we came here after dinner, Tyler asked her this question. I was curious as well, but no one could tell, as this was the first time that a human laid an dragon egg.

Emily said that she didn’t get to think, to ask the Goddess about the egg. But on the other end, she probably would have said to patiently wait anyway. And besides, Ayinthur was there to protect our daughter, and guide her when she would be born.

The egg, however, has been grown since it came here almost two weeks ago. It was stunning to see that the purple glow which was emanating from within, was pacing slightly quicker when we arrived to check up on her. I guess that she already recognises our voices and loves to be around us.

“She does love us.” Kaden stated.

I wasn’t fazed at all anymore by how fast and easy Kaden could read minds. It has been part of our conversations to just respond to what he said, as we always anticipated him to read in.

But he has been learning to not react to each and every thought we had in our minds, that sometimes we think of one thing, but we say another, as people sometimes want to be gentle with telling bad news, or leave out some information, to not overwhelm others. And sometimes we just want to have our thoughts to our own.

“Thoughts to your own? No, there is no way that you have that chance here.” Emily stated, and Kaden chuckled.

“Well at least I have Tyler at my side!” I said and Tyler looked confused. Hmpf, I was trying to show them that it’s two against two here, but I guess Tyler didn’t catch up to that.

Which resulted in the laughter of Emily and Kaden.

Ayinthur was sleeping around the egg, securing it tightly within the curl of his tail. But suddenly he lifted his head, looking at the egg in silence.

Both Tyler and Kaden climbed on top of the tail, seating themselves next to the egg, touching its scales.

“She is moving!” They said simultaneously.

And they were right! As some of the scales were translucent, we could see something swim around in circles, before she became calm again.

“Hmm, two moons from now, then she will hatch.” Ayinthur spoke and laid down his head again.

“Really? How do you know?” I asked him.

“Give or take a day or two. But it is within dragon knowledge that when we see the egg move, then it will take about two more months, for it to hatch.” Ayinthur replied, before he dozed off again.

Being a dragon must be such a tiring job, as he sleeps all day, getting fed by Axel or one of the other Rangers, and breaths fire every now and then, to keep the egg warm. Lazy-ass it is…

“Don’t let him hear that.” Emily chuckled.

“Hear what?” Ayinthur asked.

“Oh, nothing.” Emily replied while pushing me and the boys out of the stone shelter.

“Bye Iris, see you tomorrow.” Emily whispered to the egg, after giving it a kiss.
