Chapter Chapter Nine
When I reached the school, all the noise and light was centered in the auditorium, I parked in the front and made my way to the front gate, and was greeted by a young freshman collecting tickets. I pulled mine out and handed it to him.
“Have fun.” he smiled, I smiled back, but if anyone was good at reading expressions, they’d know what was hidden behind that smile; agony and sadness. I remember Sean telling me that we couldn’t feel, that once we were changed, it would be impossible to have any emotions, he said if I was having emotions, then I wanted myself to. Was it possible, that I wanted this pain?
“Jay! I didn’t think you’d be coming.” Allie came up to me, fingers twined with Cay’s.
“Why would you think that?”
Allie looked at me quizzically, “Well--that’s what Cay told me” she looked up at him, “Isn’t that right baby, you said Jay probably wouldn’t show up.”
Cay shrugged, “You didn’t have a date so---”
I chuckled, “Well this is a big amusement isn’t it, my mom told me you guys said I could go with you, I guess not, and on another note, Peter and I broke up.”
Allie stared at me blankly, “And you’re not sad about it? No tears, nothing?”
How I wish I could show some sympathy, but it was just hollow, that was all my feelings were now, was hollow.
“Well, I’m sure, if you come with us, you’ll have a grand time!” Cay smiled.
“We were thinking about ditching the dance, and heading over to my place for a party, wanna come with us?”
“I don’t know.” I got a bad feeling about this.
Cay shrugged, “It was just a suggestion, but you’re going to be awfully lonely by yourself here.”
Cay made his way towards the gate, and stopped waiting for me to decide.
I looked back at the dance, then at Allie, and Cay.
“So, what’s the address?”
It was a thirty minute drive, through some woods, and abandoned buildings, until finally, we reached a very large two story house, the lights were on, music was playing, and toilet paper was thrown all around the trees and the roof of the house.
“I thought I told them to keep it calm, damn it.” Cay muttered.
I followed Cay and Allie to the door, “If you need anything, don’t be afraid to ask or go for it yourself, and; if you’re feeling in the mood, there’s a master bedroom upstairs, a few kids from school told me they’re interested.” Cay winked.
“Thanks, but I think I’ll stick to downstairs.”
“Suit yourself.” Cay walked off with Allie.
I walked into a large foyer filled with kids from my school, and older ones that I did not recognize, all had bottles of alcohol, that stenched the room, I plugged my nose and headed for the kitchen where it was less crowded and smelly. I couldn’t believe what I saw when I walked in, the floors looked to be completely re-done, they were plain black tiles, and the counters consisted of granite and marble, a small chandelier hung above me, one light was burnt out and stuffed with some kind of dip, it looked like cheese dip. The island stuck out in the middle of the kitchen, which filled the table of chips and beer, what was unfortunate, was that the kitchen was so nice, but the guests had treated it so poorly.
“What do you think?”
I turned to find Cay hunched over the counter beside me, sipping a drink from his blue plastic cup.
“Besides the bulb filled with Cheese,” I motioned toward the chandelier, “Nice, although you’re friends could take better care of it.”
He shrugged, “They’ll regret it later.” Cay took a step closer, this time I could feel his breath brush against my face, the smell of beer filled my nostrils.
“You should really stop drinking that.”
“It’s fine, are you thirsty--hungry, can I get you anything?”
“I don’t drink.” I crossed my arms, but then I thought about that night with Sean and that man we attacked, even though it was wrong, I let out a faint chuckle.
“What’s so funny?” Cay looked at me curiously.
I shook my head, “Nothing.”
“Well, I don’t just have alcohol, there is some soda in the cooler over there.”
I turned to find a small white cooler by the pantry door, I opened it up to find three cokes left, I grabbed one and snapped it open and took a sip.
“Yuck, it’s kinda plain.” I set down the bottle.
“It was shaken up a bit, give it another go, maybe it’ll taste better after the second try.”
I looked back at the bottle on the counter, and all of the sudden, I had a craving for more, I snatched the bottle off of the counter and took a small sip until I was gulping it down, but then the bottle was empty.
“More?” I pleaded.
Cay smiled and opened the cooler, there was still the remaining two left.
I fell to my knees and grabbed the last two, opening them both and finishing them up. Cay stood above me, drink in hand, soon Allie came and stood beside him, both watching me swing the remainings of the soda.
“More!” I pleaded, I was on my knees, looking up at Cay, as he smirked down at me.
Allie placed her hands on Cay gently, “Oh baby---please tell me you didn’t.” Allie looked back at me worried.
I clung onto Cays shirt, “More.”
“Jay, you should go---” Allie started.
“Nonsense!” Cay smiled, “If she want’s more,” Cay looked back at me, “She’ll have more.”
People started to leave, while they left I had been nearly passed out on Cay’s couch with a blanket bundled up around me.
Cay made his way over to me, “So Jay, I need to ask you something.”
I turned to him,”What is it?”
“You know Peter right?”
I stared at him blankly, “Who?”
He chuckled, “Perfect.”
Allie made her way over, “Please, don’t do this, you said you wouldn’t hurt her.”
“What are you talking about Allie?” I turned to Cay.
He made his way towards me, “No, you can’t, Cay--” before Allie had time to finish, her neck was snapped and she collapsed to the ground.
Shock was the only thing that seemed to come to mind, it overwhelmed me, my best friend, the only person I could go to when my dad died, my one friend, gone.
I got up to see her, to see if she would have an ounce of life left in her, but Cay clenched my neck and pinned me back down.
He shook his head and chuckled, “She was always getting on my nerves, she needed to go.”
I tried to fight him but it was no use, “Why are you--doing this?” I gagged.
“Shhh, it will only hurt more if you struggle. Just relax and it will be over before you know it.”
I looked at him discouragingly, he stared blankly at me, as if this was all intended.
Then it hit me, it was Cay all along, the dark figure in my vision, the one who attacked me, I’d seen the future.
He threw me to the ground, “You are my ever most need, Jay.”
I knelt on my knees and let out a tear, “Need me for what!” I cried. I noticed at this point my face was drenched in tears, I felt like I was being sucked down into a dark hole that I wouldn’t be able to climb out of.
He stepped closer, this time, circling around me, “You have no idea do you?” he asked, curling his finger under my chin, he grinned.
I chuckled, “I’d love some insight.”
He laughed hysterically, “And all this time!”
“What are you talking about?” I asked nervously.
“Well, this will be fun.” he smiled.
“What will?” I stood up slowly.
“It’s been a long time since I’ve had some fun.” he gave an evil smirk, and pulled a thick blade from behind him, “This will give me what I need.”
“Give you what?!”
He took a step closer, pressing the blade against my chest, “A shame, would have been a great girl.”
“You can’t--” without warning, he plunged the blade into my chest, gushing out blood everywhere, pain stung everywhere making its way to my heart, I could feel the coldness--the feeling gradually leaving my body. I fell to the ground, unable to move, or speak, I was paralyzed.
“Where is it?!” Cay growled at me.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I gagged.
My whole body quaked, and the more I struggled the more it hurt. Suddenly my vision began to get blurry, and all I could see was fragments of the fluorescent lightings above my eyes.
“Like hell!” A loud voice came from behind me.
Cay turned me roughly along with him, and before us stood Scarlett, Daniel, Sean, and another person I did not recognize.
“How many times must we do this Constantine?” Cay was Constantine?
The boy I didn’t recognize spoke up, “Everything is going to be alright Jay, I promise.”
“Do--” I coughed, blood sputtered out of my mouth, “Do I know you?”
His expression faded into despair, then before I could take another glance Cay threw me at the ground, the unfamiliar boy held me up, pressing his hand to my wound.
Don’t worry Jay, you aren’t going to die, not this time. He spoke to me, only he didn’t speak it out loud, it was spoken to my mind.
How was that possible?
“Where is it Peter!?” Constantine’s voice filled with anger.
So his name was Peter, something about that name brought back a faint memory, but I couldn’t tell from where.
“Did you really think your plan would work Constantine? I made preparations for this a long time ago.”
Peter rested me against the wall, “Just hold on.” This time it was a whisper, something I knew was real.
Constantine gave a look of realization, “You took it…” as he said it, he left out the door.
I looked back to Sean who stood in front of me, then he left.
“Sean!” Scarlett looked out then back at me, then rested her hand on Peter’s shoulder, “We need to go after him.”
“What good is it now, she’s dying!!” Frustration filled Peter’s voice, a voice that was seemingly familiar.
“Maybe she won’t.”
“What do you mean!?”
“She’s still breathing, if we can get that dagger back we might be be able to restore her, but we need to hurry, the slower it takes to get this dagger back the faster she dies.”
“Scarlett--” I spoke.
“Shh, you’re going to be fine,” she lifted me up and set me on the couch, “You need to hold on for as long as you can, do you understand me?”
I looked down at my stomach to see more blood was being lost, faster and faster I became light headed.
She looked me dead in the eyes, not once did she flinch or look away, this felt more personal.
I nodded, then Peter made his way over to me, “You’re mine Jay, always.”
The light began to fade gradually, until all that was left to see was glimpses of the picture in front of me; Peter….Then it all came back now, I remembered him.
“Peter!” I reached up for him, but the pain stung in my chest leaving me falling back on the couch, agony coursed through me, I was dying.
“You remember.”
I shook my head, tears fell down my cheeks, I was crying, and my palm covered the spot I’d been stabbed, “It’s no use, you don’t have to--save me.” The words took forever to come out.
“You really have no idea what you’re capable of, are you?” Peter gave me a look I couldn’t figure out.
Then he left.
