Words Unspoken

Chapter Chapter Thirteen

A few days passed and things were slowly starting to calm down. Some of the group went out and figured out that the cops stop patrolling around midnight. Which wasn't terrible thankfully, even cops need to sleep. But that gave us an advantage now. Jill decided that rather than everyone going out, we'd go out in smaller groups, the ones who would do the tagging. Ben, Noah, Krista and I were the group to go. Everyone else of course did what they usually did, stay undercover and listen in on any changes or find more recruits. Hopefully after the announcement of the new law, there will be more people willing to join us.

Currently I was sitting on my bed flipping through one of the newspapers, hoping something new caught my eye, but nothing did. I closed the newspaper and tossed it on the floor as I placed my head in my hands. My fingers running through my hair a few times.

My thoughts wandered back to my brother. It had been almost a week since I heard from him when I decided to break my pager. I told Jill and Krista, they said that they'd try and help me contact him, and maybe we could find a way to get him out and bring him here. A voice interrupted my thoughts and I turned my head slightly to see who it was. Noah. A small smile formed on my lips as he sat down on my bed.

"Everything okay?" He asked me and I just nodded my head slowly.

"Yeah, I guess. Just worried about my brother." I said to him and he gave me a reassuring smile.

"Jill told me everything. We're gonna get him out and bring him here, don't worry." He said as he placed his hand on mine. I took in a deep breath and held it for a second before letting it out and nodded my head.

Krista and Ben came over and looked at the two of us. "Almost time, you guys ready?" Ben asked as he held a few spray cans. Noah gave him a nod and grabbed one of the cans before getting up.

"Ready?" He asked me and smiled as he held a hand out to me. I took his hand and stood up as the four of us made our way to the door.

"Be careful!" Jill called out.

"Always are!" Ben called out as he followed Krista up the stairs with me and Noah right behind them. Johnny turned his flashlight on and looked down at us and then turned his gaze to me.

"Is she ready?" He asked and Noah rolled his eyes. "Yeah man she's ready, now let us through it's already past twelve." He added. Johnny let out a sigh and opened the door as the four of us walked out. After weeks of being stuck underground, I was finally out. I followed Ben, Krista and Noah out the building as we made our way towards the front gate.

"Hoods up." Ben whispered loudly as we all pulled our hoods over our heads. Noah stepped out first as he scanned the area before motioning us to follow him.

"Alright, Ben, Krista, you guys take the south side. We'll go North." Noah said as the two nodded their heads before running off. I watched them disappear aroind the corner before turning my attention over to Noah. I could now feel my heart pound against my chest, my stomach churning. Of course I was nervous. But I was with Noah, and he knew what he was doing. He held his hand out for me and I took it without any hesitation.

"Ready?" He asked with a reassuring smile and I gave him a nod as the two of us ran the opposite direction. Ten minutes passed and we ended up in a small neighborhood, nowhere near where I lived, thankfully. There were a couple of stores around us, and a few houses on both sides of the street. Noah was looking around, his eyes scanned every window. I raised an eyebrow as he looked at me before he made his way through an alleyway between two of the stores. He pulled out the red spray paint and handed it to me.

"Uh, I don't know what I'm doing." I said with a soft chuckle.

"Oh come on, it's easy, you've seen me do it before." He said with a small smirk. I raised both my eyebrows, remembering the time I saw him spray painting the back of a house. I took a deep breath and shook the can a few times as I stared at the wall.

"Remember, be quick." He said to me as he stood behind me, to keep a lookout. I gave him a nod and began spray painting the wall. All my nerves and jitters just disappeared as I watched red paint appear on the brick walls. It was official, I was now a rebel. Right now, I had no regrets and I don't think I ever woild. I wanted to be a part of this, to stop the madness, to bring the world back to life. So here I was, risking my life to save the world. Once I finished I took a step back to admire my handiwork and smiled. I glanced at Noah who was looking around before turning his attention back to me. He jogged over and gazed at the wall before giving a satisfying nod.

"Perfect." He said with a smile. A loud clang made the two of us jump and Noah grabbed my arm as he pulled me along quickly behind a dumpster. We were sitting on the floor, Noah holding me between his legs and close to his chest. I tried to keep my breathing quiet, hoping they didn't see or hear us, whoever it may be. We were sitting there for a few minutes, but didn't hear any footsteps coming closer. I turned my head slightly looking up at Noah and gestured with his finger for me to stay quiet. Nodding my head, I watched as he peeked his head around the corner before turning back around his head against the dumpster as he let out a small sigh of relief and chuckled softly.

"What? What is it?" I asked, raising my eyebrow at home.

"Just a stray cat." He said, still laughing. I let out a giggle and nodded my head as I peeked around to see a blackish/brown cat sniffing around. I moved back to look at Noah, not realizing our faces were really close. I cleared my throat, feeling my cheeks heat up before slowly standing up, hoping he didn't see my cheeks all red. I held my hand out for him, and he took it as I helped him.

"So, are we going to another building? Or is this it?" I asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Are you kidding? The fun just started." He said to me as stepped out of our hiding spot. The two of us made our way out of the alleyway, Noah reaching over and taking my hand in his. We looked around once more before rushing out of there and across the street to one of the houses. There wasn't a car in the driveway meaning that no one was home. So we ended up tagging that house as well.

I have no idea how much time has passed, but the two of us made progress tonight by tagging five houses and some stores. Noah was checking the time on his pager, it was already one in the morning.

"Time to go." He said with a soft chuckle as we made our way back to the factory. Once we got back, Ben and Krista were waiting for us. The four of us made our way inside. I glanced behind me, Noah was looking around for a bit before he looked over at me and smiled. Finally getting back downstairs, I plopped down on my bed and Krista sat down next to me.

"So, how did it go? Did you have fun?" She asked me, a wide smile spread across her cheeks. I laughed softly and nodded my head. "Yeah it was... awesome." I said smiling as my gaze shifted over to Noah who was leaning against the bed smiling down at me.

"Well good, cause in a few days we're doing it again." She said as they all nodded.

"Yeah, we did good today." Ben said with a nod. "The cops are so stupid." He said with a chuckle as we nodded in agreement. It was a good thing that they stopped patrolling at a certain time, that made things a lot easier for all of us. Hopefully they don't change anything anytime soon.

Ben and Krista walked back over to Ben's bunk and Noah stayed here with me. He sat down next to me as the two of us sat there in silence. My mind then wandered back to my brother. I still had no idea how the hell I was gonna get in contact with him or get him out without getting caught.

"You alright?" Noah's voice spoke up, snapping me out of my thoughts. I turned to look at him and his eyes gazed into mine, like he was reading my thoughts. I slowly nodded my head but didn't say anything.

"You're thinking about your brother aren't you?" He said to me.

"Yeah.." I said finally speaking up. "I don't know what I'm gonna do." I said softly and let out a sigh.

"We'll figure it out, all of us. You're not alone in this.." He said as I felt his hand on mine. His thumb lightly stroked the top of my hand. My gaze shifted down to the floor. He was right, I wasn't alone. I had a new family to help me. And hopefully we'd figure out a way to get my brother and bring him here. I stared at our hands and let out another sigh as I moved my hand so it was facing upwards. Our fingers interlocked and Noah gave me a small squeeze. We sat there for a while just holding each other's hands and not saying anything, which of course I didn't mind the silence. It was calming just sitting here and being with him. Noah brought out a different side of me that had been locked up for years. We've only known each other for a few weeks, but I trusted him. I trusted him with my life. Then the realization finally hit me. I was slowly falling for him.
