Words Unspoken

Chapter Chapter Fourteen

A few weeks had passed, and we all got adjusted to our schedules on what we had to do. Jill was always monitoring the newspapers and the radios to make sure there weren't any sudden changes. If there were, we'd be back to square one. Right now I was just laying in bed, Noah, Ben and Krista were out for the day, of course I still couldn't be seen in broad daylight, which was fine since I got to go out at night. I quickly got out of bed and stretched my arms over my head as my eyes scanned the room. Only a few stayed back today, Jill was at her desk so I decided to go sit with her and keep her company. The radio was behind her, on a lowered volume so she could hear of any news.

"Nothing new right?" I asked as she glanced up from what she was reading and gave me a smile.

"Thankfully not." She said as she closed the newspaper and placed it to the side. She opened the drawer in front of her and pulled out a large piece of paper before opening it. It was a map of our neighborhood. I sat down in the chair and scooted closer to get a better look. There were red markings on houses and other buildings, my guess was that it was the houses that they tagged with spray paint.

"This is just our neighborhood." I said as Jill nodded her head.

"Yeah, we still have a few more houses to hit and then we're done."

"Well what about other neighborhoods?" I asked with a raised eyebrow and Jill let out a small sigh.

"I wish we could, but unfortunately for us we don't have the manpower to do that." She said, shaking her head as we both stared down at the map for a good few minutes. A second later I heard the door open and glanced up to see that Noah, Krista and Ben were back. Noah made his way over to me and Jill.

"Well? Anything?" She asked him and he shook his head. "No news out in the world." He said as he turned his attention to me. "I have a surprise for you." He said with a smile. I raised my eyebrow and he motioned for me to follow him. We made our way to the door and up the stairs. I raised my eyebrow, Johnny was standing at the doorway, his back turned to his us. I glanced at Noah, a smile on his face as I made my way up the stairs. Johnny turned to look at me before stepping away. My eyes widened at who I saw. Kyle.

"Oh my god.." I breathed out and I quickly rushed over and pulled him into a hug, he immediately hugged me back. A minute had passed and we let go of eachother, but I was still in shock, a smile spread across my face.

"What the hell are you doing here?" I asked as I looked between my brother and Noah.

"Ask your boyfriend." He said with a smirk and chuckled. I raised an eyebrow and glanced at Noah who was smiling at me.

"I knew you were worried about your brother, so Ben, Krista, Jill and I made a plan. Jill obviously knows where you live so we knew which house to look for. But your brother was on his way home from school-" He said but got cut off.

"When they jumped me, I swear to god, I thought I was being mugged or something." He said laughing, Noah laughing along with him. I looked between the two of them and gestured for them to continue.

"So anyways, we grabbed your brother, told him we knew you and that you were alive and safe and he demanded to be brought to you." Noah said, finishing the story. My arms were now crossed over my chest as I looked between the two of them. It was quiet for a minute before Kyle spoke up.

"Sooo...am I clear to come in?" He asked as he looked between me and Noah. "Well your sister told me that you feel the same way as us...so...yeah." He said smiling. The three of us then made our way downstairs. We were then greeted by Krista, Ben and Jill. I glanced over at Kyle who was in utter shock at the sight in front of him. He looked over at me and smiled before turning his gaze over to Jill.

"I cannot believe that you're the mastermind behind all this." Kyle said with a chuckle as she gave him a hug.

"It's good to have you here Kyle." She said smiling as she looked between me and my brother.

"Now that you're both here, we should talk." She said as she motioned for us to follow her. Kyle and I proceeded to follow Jill and I glanced behind me to Noah. He smiled, giving me a wink as I turned back around a light blush forming on my cheeks.

Kyle and I sat in the chairs across from Jill, who was sitting on the other side of her desk. She let out a small sigh and leaned forward, her hands folded as she looked between the two of us, a small smile on her face.

"I just want to say that I am really glad to have the both of you here, two people that I can trust to be in this group." She said as Kyle and I gave her a nod.

"Now Kyle, since you're new here, you're gonna have to stay hidden for a while, meaning you can't go out during the day or late at night." She said as Kyle gave her a nod and glanced at me.

"It's for your protection from the cops. I still can't go out during the day, in case anyone we know sees me and alerts the authorities." I said with a sigh.

"It's no problem, whatever you need me to do, I'll do it." He said with a nod and looked over at Jill and then at me. I gave him a smile as Jill gave a nod before getting up, leaving me and Kyle alone.

"I'm guessing mom and dad are pretty pissed now." I said with a chuckle and he laughed nodding his head.

"Yeah, now that I'm out too." He said with a sigh.

"We're horrible." I said laughing and he laughed with me.

"We're the devil's children." He said laughing and I shook my head smiling at him. I let out a small sigh and leaned back in my seat. We sat there for a moment not saying anything before Kyle spoke up.

"I hate that we upset them like this...but I can't live the way we did in this world." He said to me as I nodded my head in agreement.

"Yeah I know, that's why I left or ran away." I said with a sigh as I rubbed my face with my hands.

"I know, and they were upset, they weren't pissed, just worried and concerned. As soon as you left, they called the cops. They kept asking me if I knew anything and I said no." Kyle explained to me.

"Thanks for not saying anything." I said with a smile

"Well you're my big sister, we stick together." He said, smiling at me.

"I'm sorry I couldn't send a message back. I couldn't let them find me." I said to him and he nodded his head.

"Trust me I get it, don't worry." He said to me and I let out a small sigh of relief. We sat there for a moment as I looked around for a bit. My gaze flickered over to Noah who was talking with Ben and Krista. Our eyes met and he gave me a smile. I smiled back and turned back around. I could feel Kyle's eyes on me and I glanced at him with a raised eyebrow.

"What?" I asked but he didn't say anything. Just a smirk on his face and his arms crossed over his chest.

"What??" I asked again, more persistent.

"Nothing, nothing. I just know that look on your face." He said smiling. "You like like him." He said to me and let out a chuckle as I rolled my eyes shaking my head.

"Noah and I are just friends." I said and it was true. I mean, we hadn't acted on anything, and besides I don't know if he had feelings for me as well. If he didn't that would really suck and I knew I'd be wasting my time trying. But it wasn't the end of the world, was it? I did care for him a lot and I knew he cared for me.

"Right...friends." Kyle said as I looked over at him with a raised eyebrow.

"We are, okay? And yeah I do like him but I don't know if he feels the same." I admitted and glanced over at Noah once more before turning my attention back to my brother.

"So ask him." He said with a chuckle. My eyes widened to what he said and I scoffed, shaking my head.

"You're fucking crazy. If I told him, and he didn't feel the same way...I'd be making a complete fool of myself." I said as he let out a chuckle.

"Besides, we're in the middle of a rebellion. I can't just start a relationship." I said as I watched him get up. He didn't say anything else but changed the subject.

"So you gonna show me around? And when do I get these cool new clothes?" He asked and I laughed softly standing up before making my way over to the large dresser where I was given my clothes. I rummaged through it before handing him his own hoodie and jeans and new shoes in his size.

"Nice." He said smiling as he looked around. "Uh, where do you want me to get dressed?" He asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Just go by my bunk, get dressed there." I said and he furrowed his eyebrows in confusion.

"Yeah I know, you'll get used to it." I said with a chuckle and he shrugged his shoulders before walking off. I then made my way over to Noah, Ben and Krista. Noah glanced over at me and smiled.

"Hey." He said as he stood up from where he was sitting. "How's your brother adjusting to everything?" He asked me with a smile.

"Pretty good actually." I said with a chuckle.

"Good, cause we need more people." Ben said and Krista nodded in agreement.

"He's only one person." I said with my arms in the pocket of my hoodie.

"Better than nothing." Krista said as we all nodded. Kyle then came over and held his arms out.

"I love this." He said laughing and we all laughed with him.

"Glad you do, welcome to the group." Ben said. I glanced over at Noah, his eyes on me. We smiled at each other and I turned away, feeling the heat rise in my cheeks. Get it together Sam. I thought to myself. Things were now starting to get better. We had a new system, we were making progress on everything, and now my brother was here with me. Slowly but surely, we were recruiting more people. The more help we had the better. But of course we still had some obstacles in the way. As long as we kept to our routine and schedules, things will be okay. Hopefully nothing bad happens and ruins everything. Hopefully.
