Words Unspoken

Chapter Chapter Nineteen

Everyone was standing around waiting for the worst. A half hour had passed, Ben was still peeking through the curtains watching to see what would happen. We had no idea what would happen. I slowly walked over to the other side and peeked through the curtain as well, the flashing lights of the cop car were still on. The sky was now a mix of pink and orange meaning the sun was finally setting for the day.

I watched as the two cops stepped out of the front office and made their way towards our direction. I took a step back, my heart now pounding heavily in my chest as I turned to look at Krista and Kyle. Their eyes wide in shock and in fear. We all turned to look at Ben as he stepped away from the curtains. A look of relief on his face.

"They're going back to their car." He said and I rushed over to the window. I watched as the two cops got in their car and drove off. I let out a long sigh and shook my head slightly as I plopped down on the chair.

"I thought we were fucked." Kyle said as he sat on the bed and Krista walked over giving Ben a hug. We all stood there quietly, relief washed over us. We all sat down, pondering what we should do next. It was already getting close to curfew, so we really couldn't go anywhere.

Twenty minutes have passed and the four of us were sitting around going over the plan once more. I still had no idea how we were going to get Noah out. The Capitol's prison was heavily guarded. But, hopefully Noah isn't at the prison yet and we can get to him in time.

The next morning everyone was up around four. The earlier we left, the quicker we'd get to our destination and to Noah. Since it was my turn to drive, I got into the drivers side with Krista in the passengers seat so she can look at the map. Ben was completely exhausted, I didn't blame him though so we just let him rest. Kyle was going to keep a lookout.

A few hours had passed while we were on the road when Kyles voice broke the silence.

"There!!" He said which woke Ben up. I looked at him through the rear view mirror, eyebrows furrowed slightly

"What are you talking about?" I asked and Krista turned to look at him and then out the window to where he was pointing, which was one of the prisoner transport vehicles. Noah had to be in that one right? He just had to be. We continued on following the prisoner vehicle, hopefully to where they were gonna send Noah.

"He has to be in there. Right?" Ben said from the backseat.

"I honestly hope so. He couldn't be in the capital already." I said as I kept my on the vehicle, but made sure to not let them notice I was following them.

"They probably took him to the courthouse already." Krista said and let out a sigh as I glanced at her. Her eyes were glued to the vehicle making sure we didn't lose it.

"Then that means they gave him his sentence." I said as I stared at the road in front of me. My hands gripped onto the steering wheel as my foot pressed onto the gas pedal, speeding up a little more. There was no way in hell we were gonna let Noah rot in prison or worse, face the death penalty.

I continued following after the prisoner transport vehicle for another few hours. It was definitely headed towards the capital. Krista kept her eyes on the truck and the map. Kyle and Ben were now wide awake and focused even more, now that we had a lead.

I honestly don't know how long we've been driving but we finally reached a rest stop along with the truck. We hung a few feet back, making sure they didn't see us. I glanced over at the others and then back to the prisoner vehicle, my hands gripped tight on the steering wheel.

"There's no way we can make our move now." Ben said to us. "It's way to risky."

"You don't think they know we're following them." Krista said and turned to look at him, my eyes still glued to the truck.

"No, there's no way, there were a bunch of cars going the same direction." Kyle said speaking up now. I took in a deep breath and glanced at everyone.

"So what do we do?" I asked looking at the three of them. It got quiet as we thought for a moment.

"Alright..." Ben said speaking up and nodding his head slowly. The wheels in his brain now turning, he was definitely coming up with a plan.

"Kyle and I are gonna distract them-"

"Woah, hold up." Kyle said interrupting him and we all turned to look at him.

"What if these are the same guys who caught Noah, they could easily recognize us." He said and we all nodded our heads in agreement.

"He's right, so Sam and Krista distract them."

"And how are we supposed to do that?" She asked raising her eyebrow.

"You're girls, I don't know, flirt or something." Kyle said as me and Krista glanced at each other. We turned our attention back to the vehicle and watched as the two guards stepped out, making their way towards the convenience store. The two of us stepped out and made our way inside the store. The two guards were by the drink area. Krista and I glanced at eachother and she gave me a nod. As she made her way over to them, I walked down one of the aisles, my back facing them and I glanced out the window towards our car. I gave the guys a nod and I watched as the two of them rushed out of the car and towards the transport vehicle. I turned my head slightly and glanced over to where Krista was, she was already mid-conversation with the two guards. Whatever you're doing Krista keep it up. I thought to myself as I turned back around and watched Ben and Kyle try and open the back door with whatever they had on them.

A couple of minutes passed and they finally got the doors open. My eyes widened and my heart started beating heavily. I turned my head quickly to see what Krista was up to, she was still keeping the guards distracted, bright smile, playing with her hair and whatnot. Something I would not have been able to pull off. I turned back around and my heart sank when I noticed that Noah wasn't there. Ben and Kyle looked over at me and shook their heads as they rushed back to the car to not be seen or get caught. I turned back to look at Krista and the guards had already walked over to the counter to pay.

Krista made her way over to me and spoke rather loudly.

"Didn't find any good snacks?" She asked and glanced up at the guards as they walked over to the exit. She gave them one last flirty wave and they waved back as they made their way to the transport vehicle.

"So? Was he in there? Did they get Noah?" She asked me as soon as they left the store and I shook my head looking over at her. Her eyes widened for a second and then they furrowed in confusion as she shook her head placing her hands on her hips.

"Wait, what? I thought he was in there?" She said gesturing to the truck.

"Yeah we all thought so too, but he wasn't." I said disappointingly. My gaze flickered down to the floor and I felt a hand on my shoulder, it was Krista's.

If he wasn't in that prisoner transport vehicle, then where the hell was he?
