Wolf under an oak tree.

Chapter 54

Iris Hendrix

After having my breakfast, I left the house and drove to the packhouse. Once I reached there, that is when I realized that I have no idea where Elana will be right now, and I am not planning to search this entire area for her. So I sat in my car for the next fifteen minutes trying to think what I can do, and that is when I remembered that I have Mike’s phone number.

I quickly searched my contacts and pressed the call button. The phone started ringing, and I waited patiently till he answers. “Hello?”

“Hey, Mike. I am sorry, that I disturbed you at this time, but can I know where can I find Elana right now?”

“You can come to our house, Iris,” he replied, and I looked out my window to see that there were quite a lot of houses in this area, how am I going to find his house?

“Um, where is your house?”

“I bet you know where Walter’s house is, right?”

“I am sorry, I don't know. I have only been to the packhouse and Jace’s house.” I replied, and I heard him sigh.

“Do one thing, I think there will be someone around you, ask them the direction, and they will guide you to mine,” he suggested, and I nodded my head.

“Yeah sure,” I said, and then I kept the phone while I looked around to find my suitable candidate, and that is when I found my scapegoat walking towards the training grounds. So I quickly got out of my car and yelled at the guy.

“Excuse me! Excuse me!” at my last calling, he turned around and pointed a finger at himself, and I eagerly nodded my head. He looked like he must be only a year or two older than me and I must say that he is quite handsome, too. How is it possible that all these werewolves have good genes?

“Yes? Can I help you with something?” he asked me and checked me out from top to bottom.

“Hi, my name is Iris,” I said and extended my hand for a handshake, and he stared at my hand before he looked at my face and then at my hand again.

Excuse me! Don't you know that when you meet a stranger you will have to introduce yourself to them?

“Um, yes, hi. I am Zander,” he replied while returning my handshake, and I discretely let out a sigh thanking the Gods above that he didn't embarrass me in our first meeting.

“So, I am sorry that I bothered you. But could you please direct me to the Gamma’s house?” I asked him, and he gave me a weird look before looking around us.

“Um, I would love to, but I thought you already knew where his house is,” Zander said, and I gave him a curious look.

What am I? A prehistoric map or an address book? to make sure that I remember every geological location and address?

“No, what I meant was since you were our Beta’s mate, I thought maybe you knew where the gamma lived since the Beta and Gamma are neighbors.” he quickly added.

Oh, so everyone here thinks that I am Walter’s mate? Nice. Jace didn't even bother to show anyone that he has at least found his mate.

“No, I am not Walter’s mate, I am actually um...” now how am I going to explain my relationship to all these high-ranking wolves?

Well, who cares, I guess I will tell him the first thing that appears in my mind.

“I am Walter's Grandmother’s best friend's granddaughter. And I have known about werewolves for quite some time now.” I lied, and I saw that Zander believed it.

I think you should take up an acting career once all this ordeal is over, Iris.

“Oh, well, that is a confusing connection, but since I don't meddle with the high-ranking business, I won't be asking any more questions,” Zander said.

Oh, how sweet can a guy get? I felt like I want to pinch his cheeks, pull them hard and then give him a big sloppy kiss.

“So, that is how you will have to go.” Zander’s words brought me back from my dirty thoughts and looked at him with a blank face.

What the hell is happening to you, Iris? You were never like this. Pull yourself together woman.

“I am sorry, but could you please repeat that one last time?” I asked him, and he nodded his head and started explaining it again, this time even though I paid complete attention, I still didn't get what he was saying. This is what happens if you are horrible in directions and you have completely relied on google maps your entire life.

“You know, it would be of great help if you could come with me and show me the way. Please!” I asked him, and he started to think. “I will make sure I put a good word or two about you to Walter,” I said, and a smirk broke out on his lips, and he agreed to come with me. Once we were seated in my car, he started to direct.

Jace must be a billionaire to own such a vast environment since we were in the car for almost fifteen minutes before we reached Mike’s place. “Thank you so much, Zander. I don't know how I would have reached this place if it wasn't for you. And I am so sorry that I took most of your time, I feel guilty right now.” I thanked and apologized to him again for the nth time, and he shook his head.

“That's alright. And Iris, I don't think you need to put in a word for me,” he said and this confused me.

Doesn't he want to get a good position in this pack? I mean, I know I don't have that much power, but still.

“I am the head warrior for Blueblood pack. Anyway, see you later,” he said and then vanished into the woods.
