Wolf under an oak tree.

Chapter 38

Iris Hendrix

I was frozen in my spot looking at the rogue, who was looking at me with lust in his eyes, and before I could reply, Jace made his way to him and punched him square in the face. “Don't you dare utter my mate’s name through your filthy mouth!” Jace yelled, and he was shaking so much that it is a wonder that he hasn't killed the rogue yet.

“How do you know my name?” I asked him, and now all the attention in the room was on me again. The rogue shook his head a few times before he looked at me. “That is for me to know and for you to find out, sweetie. But I figured out you are the luna since rumors are spreading that Alpha Emerson has found his mate, but no one will believe that he has a weak human mate.” the rogue taunted, and I felt a slight bit of insecurity settle in my heart.

“Stop staring at her! And answer my question, where is Midnight?” Jace yelled at the rogue, and he roughly pulled his hair, so the rogue was looking at him directly in the eye. “I can't tell you our location, but you should know that Midnight will come to raid your pack in five days from now to take what is rightfully his.” the rogue said, and when I looked at Jace, his face was red, and he had his lip in a straight line and there was a visible nerve on his forehead that was slightly throbbing, and before the rogue could speak again, Jace snapped his neck right in front of me. And the last thing that the rogue was staring at before he died was me.

“Alpha, we could have got more information from him if we would have tortured him a bit more,” Walter said in a professional voice, choosing his words carefully, but Jace didn't even look at him, instead he turned his attention towards me.

“Why did you come here, Iris?” Jace asked me, and he turned his attention back to Walter, who bowed his head and bared his neck to Jace in submission.

“I wasn't able to stop her Alpha since she used the Luna command on me,” Walter said, but Jace wasn't paying any attention to him, instead he took slow menacing steps toward me, and I know that Jace has lost control since his eyes were completely liquid gold.

“Jace, I came to see who that rogue is, and I also wanted to show you something.” I talked with confidence, but within, I was shaking like a leave, but I didn't move away, I held my stance till he was a foot away from me, and when he raised his hands, I thought he was going to slap me so I flinched, but he engulfed me in a warm hug and buried his face on the crook of my neck and inhaled my scent while I stood frozen.

“I am sorry if I frightened you. I couldn't control the anger that overtook all my senses,” he murmured in my ear, and I slowly wrapped my arms around him. “Let's head outside,” he said, and I nodded my head. “Take care of this mess,” he instructed Walter, and then we left the interrogation room, and when we were passing through the prison cells, not a single sound was made, and I think everyone must have heard Jace scream.

When we left the dungeon, Jace guided me toward his house, and when we entered, he brought me to the living room and made me sit on the couch. “What do you want to tell me?”

“Jace, I wanted to show you this before, but I thought maybe I could handle it, but...” I kept rumbling, and Jace placed his finger on my lips to shut me up. “Why don't you show me instead of trying to explain?” he asked me in a gentle voice, and I nodded before I took the crumpled piece of paper from my pocket and handed it to him. He looked at it with suspicion before he opened it to read its content. For every second that passed, Jace’s anger raised, and once he was done reading, he threw the paper on the ground and abruptly stood up.

“Where was this paper?”

“It was on the side table in your room. I found it when I came out of the shower, but that is not all Jace. This is the second threat message.” I told him, and he looked at me, waiting for me to explain so I told him what was there on the first paper.

“You are mine! And I will not let anyone touch you.” Jace said and hugged me.

“Once I deal with this Rogue’s problem, I think I will hunt down that bastard and tear him limb from limb.” we stood like that for a few minutes before I pulled back and took a seat on the sofa again.

“Thank you, Jace. But I guess, I want to go back home now.”

“Why do you want to leave, Iris?”

“Jace, you do remember that I still have a house to build, right?” I asked him with a raised eyebrow, and he pouted at me before taking a seat next to me.

“But I don't think you will need that house, Iris. Since you will be living with me here in my house.”

“I know, but I want to finish building that house and maybe gift it to my parents,” I said, and he nodded his head, but I can see his reluctance in not wanting me to go.

“Fine, I will drop you off, and I will try my best to come to the construction site as often as I can.”

“No Jace, I think you can ask someone else to drop me since you still have a lot of work here,” I said, he was about to argue, and I gave him my best glare which shut his mouth.

“Oh, and before I forget. Could you promise me that you will at least drop your hostile behavior towards Elana and let her stay here in the packhouse?” I asked him with puppy eyes.

“I will try not to snap at her for you,” he said, and I gave him a big smile and placed a kiss on his cheek, I quickly left the house towards the packhouse since I had one more thing to do before leaving the place. When I arrived at the packhouse, I saw my car parked in the corner, and I quickly went towards it and I took my handbag out.

“Iris, what are you doing here?” I jumped in fright, and when I turned around I saw that Walter was standing there with a goofy grin on his face, and I smacked him on the shoulder for frightening me half to death.

“Can’t you make some noise when you come here?”

“I am sorry, I didn't know you would be this oblivious.”

“This time I will let it slide, but the next time, I won't be this lenient with you. “ I threatened him, and he raised his hands in surrender. And I shook my head at his childish behavior before I took out a box from my bag and handed it over to him.

“I want you to incorporate this stone into the ring I gave you,” I said while he opened the box and looked at the stone, but there was a faraway look in his eyes.

“What is it?”

“Nothing, you have a beautiful stone,” he said and I thanked him, and shortly after that, a guy walked toward me and said that he would be taking me home.
