Wolf under an oak tree.

Chapter 36

Iris Hendrix

I slowly took the note with shaky hands and opened it to read.

Dear Iris,

I see that you have found yourself a new boyfriend but do you really know who he truly is? And do you think that I will let you live peacefully with him, darling? I think you should know something, you are mine, and I will get you to come back to me one way or the other. Also, did you forget the note that I left for you?

Tick tock, tick-tock.

The clock is ticking, four days to go.

Decide wisely.

Oh my! How did I get into this mess? I reread the letter a couple more times before I quickly shoved the paper into my denim pocket and I took the dead rose and threw it out the window. And I went back inside the bathroom and washed my face to remove any traces of the tears and reapplied my lip gloss, once I deemed myself good enough, I left the bathroom, and when I was about to open the bedroom door, someone else opened it.

“Who the hell are you?” the woman standing in front of me asked. To be honest, she was very well dressed in a mini skirt and a tight top, and her face was caked with makeup, but I think her attitude spoiled her image.

“I...Um,” I was about to tell her that I am Jace’s mate, but then I remembered that Jace hasn't told his pack about me, so if I tell that now I know she will think that I was lying. “I am Walter’s friend, and I came into this room searching for the bathroom,” I told her, and she stared at me for a few seconds before a smile appeared on her face, and I can bet one hundred dollars on it, that smile is as fake as the barbie doll standing in front of me.

“Oh, I am sorry, I lost my temper, but I think you shouldn't be coming into this room since this is Jace’s room, and he doesn't like strangers wandering here,” she said in a sickly sweet voice and took a hold of my hand in her well-manicured ones and led me outside before standing in front of the door that was opposite ours.

“To be frank with you, this entire house is my house,” she said, and I looked at her in confusion “I mean, Jace’s house, so that technically means that you are not supposed to enter, but I think Walter must have sent you here for who knows what. Anyway, this is the room that Walter uses whenever he is here. So, I think you can use this.” she said and opened the door and pushed me inside a bit too roughly.

“Well, thank you for being so kind. And I think I can take it from here.” I said with a forced smile, and I didn't like it one bit how she called Jace by his name instead of his title, and she nodded her head before I heard the fading sound of the clicking of her heels on the hard wooden floor.

Well, that was a very good way to start my day.

I shook my head before I closed the room door and made my way downstairs, when I reached the landing, I saw that she has indeed left, so I quickly went into the kitchen and grabbed an apple and I left the house on my way to the hospital wing.

When I entered the hospital wing, the first I saw was Elana, who was standing outside a door still in the clothes that she was wearing last night. “Good morning Elana.” I greeted her with a cheerful voice, and then I went and hugged her.

“Good morning, Luna,” Elena whispered in my ears, and I pulled back, looking at her with a surprised look.

“How do you know?”

“I figured it out last night when Jace was hovering over you like a mother hen, and don't forget that he carried you to his house in the middle of the night,” she said with a raised eyebrow and a smug smile on her face.

“Oh, well, I think that's good since now I don't have to tell you. Anyway, How are you? and how is Mike doing?”

“I am okay, but Mike is still recovering, he just went back to sleep a while back after having his breakfast,” she said and looked at the closed door with longing in her eyes.

“He will recover soon, so don't worry.” I consoled her and she nodded her head.

“So, did you have your breakfast yet?” I asked her, and she shook her.

“Jace informed the servants to bring something for me to eat, but I don't think they will be bringing anything for me to eat,” she said, and I can see the pain that she is suffering. How can her own pack members with whom she has spent most of her childhood, just disregard her like she is an outsider?

“You wait here, I will get something for you,” I said, and before she could protest, I made my way to the kitchen, and I saw that there was a variety of food placed on the table for breakfast, so I quickly picked a plate and placed a few of each dishes before I left the kitchen and went back to the hospital wing again.

“Thank you, luna, you didn't have to do this,” Elena said before she took the plate from my hand and sat on the floor to eat.

“You know, you don't have to call me using my title. Please call me Iris.” I said, and she looked at me with an emotion that I couldn't really decipher, but she nodded her head and started eating her food.

“Elana, do you know where the dungeons are located?”

“Yes, it is right next to the training ground. You will see an arrow pointing towards the training ground, I think you can follow that,” she said, and I thanked her before I left the packhouse. When I was outside, I looked around my surroundings, and that is when I saw a few arrows. The first arrow was pointed straight ahead labeled “forest”, the second was pointed south labeled “exist”, the third was pointed west, the direction I came from was labeled as “packhouse” and the final arrow which was pointed east was labeled as “training grounds.” so that is where I went.
