Chapter The meeting
“You’ll be around, I promise.”
We packed a little bit of things, but it was impossible to take everything in the truck, we only took what we needed. I got hold of Marcus and arranged to meet Otto at a cafe the next morning. I knew that saying goodbye would be very difficult, I was hoping we would find something suspicious, but there was a real possibility that Jack would now live always hiding and never be able to live in the Pack again, he lost his parents, he was raised by an alpha as a son of him, raised to be the alpha one day, he ran a giant company and suddenly all of that was taken away from him, overnight, and I as his Soulmeet lost everything too, I could visit the Pack, but I couldn’t live there anymore , and for a wolf born to live in a pack, it was the worst of punishments to live alone.
Farewell to the Pack was difficult, everyone hugged Jack a lot. Alina and Hughes didn't hold back their tears, it was hard to watch. Some people from the Village threw suspicious glances and the children just didn’t understand. My farewell was lighter because I could still set foot there to visit, but Jack couldn’t even be seen near the Pack again, and that hurt him, more than it hurt Hughes, who hugged him and said many things whispering in his ear. I couldn’t even hear him even though I was next to them.
“My granddaughter, hope to see you again soon, don’t hesitate to visit us.” Hughes hugged me as tears filled his blue eyes.
“My child, please come back soon.” Alina also said crying a lot.
“Ah little one, I will miss our training.” I knew it was Ed’s way of saying he loved me, in his serious way.
We closed Jack’s house, I felt that we would be back soon, but for everyone there it was really a goodbye, we put our things in the truck and left, but before going to my apartment that would be our temporary home, I needed to meet with Otto, as combined.
We got to the cafeteria and Jack waited in the car, before leaving he recommended me several times to be careful and scream if necessary because he would be very close, but I believed that it would not be necessary, I got out of the car with my heart in my mouth and a knot in my stomach, just knowing that I would find that man, I felt terrified, but it was necessary.
I approached the place and saw him sitting at a round table in the corner of the place. He was wearing jeans and a polo shirt, slightly gray hair tousled over his head, there were a lot of people at that time and I was glad it was a public place. When I approached and he saw me, he let out a sadistic smile, and extended his hand making a sign to sit down.
“Sit down my granddaughter, make yourself comfortable.” The way he called me granddaughter disgusted me.
I pulled out a chair and sat down, before trying to look around at the people around, looking for any danger there besides Otto.
“I wanted to ask you a favor...” I said, still suspicious of my safety there.
“If you want a house for your boyfriend, even I as a Forsaken can’t accept an exiled, that’s above me too. And I don’t even know if I would be interested in sheltering you.” He interrupted me before finishing my sentence, I made a point of interrupting him too.
“It’s nothing like that, but it’s nice to know that you wouldn’t even be interested in having your own granddaughter.” I practically spit the words out, but I couldn’t create friction with him, I really needed the favor.
“What is it then? I don’t see anything I can help you with...”
“Have you reported to the Council about Jack’s case yet?”
“No, not yet. We can say that I’m not a fan of them, and I waited to do it this afternoon, but I have to, if Hughes doesn’t want to expose his favorite, I have to do it, I didn’t do all that investigation in vain.”
“I know you need to do it, but I ask you to wait, another 2 or 3 days to do this, you can report it, but I wanted to ask you for some time.”
“Delaying this won’t make it any easier, Luna. I don’t see the point in waiting.”
“I know you don’t, but that’s all I ask of you.”
His gray eyes stared at me for several seconds, trying to read my expression and try to understand.
“I know you don’t have any good feelings for me, you always saw me as a threat and never participated in my life, but I ask you for my father, for your son. For him… Give me these three days.”
He continued without answering, just staring at me, his lips parted and after exhaling and sighing he said:
“Okay, I’ll wait the three days to rat you out.”
“Great, thanks, that’s all.”
I got up to leave, but a strong hand pulled me, it was Otto, his fingers wrapped around my wrist and he made me step back and stand side by side with him, he was very tall and I was standing almost in his sight, his lips were very close to my ears and my neck, and he said firmly.
“Don’t think this is over. You exiles put my mind at ease, but I still see you as a threat. Don’t try to get in my way.”
His words hit me,without waiting, I shivered, let out a sigh, nodded and let go of his hand, marching out of the cafeteria, many eyes followed me and I knew they were Forsaken too, he had filled their cafeteria, and leaving I realized that I wasn’t safe there really.
Jack was outside the car, almost at the entrance to the cafeteria, he saw me leaving practically running and hugged me, not taking his eyes off the cafeteria to see if anyone had followed me. Only then did he look me in the eye and ask:
“How was it? Is everything okay? I felt you scared.”
“Yes... He threatened me. Let’s go inside and I’ll tell you everything, I just want to get out of here.”
On the way to the apartment I told him everything, and got told off for sticking myself in a coffee shop full of Forsaken, but I got what I wanted, we had 3 days to prove Jack’s innocence, before we no longer had any access to the records of the Council or any Pack.
