Wolf Bond

Chapter 96

My breath catches in my throat as just before my eyes Donovon starts to shift, but what makes my heart clench painfully inside my chest when I witness him struggling like he is fighting against some invisible army of enemies.

Fur sprout across his skin then the next moment they snap back like a rubber band, while an agonizing expression comes over his expression.

Something dark swirls inside my heart, seeing him in pain. However, this pain doesn’t stop him as he again tries to shift. The silence around us fills with the sound of bones shifting and his harrowing groans.

He falls on the floor on all four, while his body convulses in an unnatural way.

“Donovon...” I whisper as if I am afraid that even my voice can hurt him while my hand instinctually stretches out in his direction. “Please...” I trail off not knowing what I want.

I don’t know what I am asking for, please stop trying... or please break this curse.

“No.” He growls as he glances in my direction furiously. It takes me a moment to realize what I am doing... as instinctually I have started to take his pain.

“Stop, Ivory.” He lets out a growl that shakes me from inside as my eyes widen in shock.

His body starts to shake feverously while the veins in his neck look like they are about to burst. His face reddens as he clenches his jaws tightly while his hands turn into claws. One by one, his bones snap, and his body rearranges itself to welcome his wolf.

My vision becomes blurry as I watch him shifting back and forth between his mid-shift. It is such an agonizing thing to witness, which is tearing my heart into a million pieces, at the same time I am feeling this strange anger inside me. The kind of anger which can only be satiated with blood.

Something in me is demanding blood, and this urge is almost driving Fire insane as she is growling wildly inside my head.

Holding my head in my hands I close my eyes, trying to fight my own demon which wants to rip the life out of the person because of whom my Donovon is suffering so much. Because of whom my Wolfie is struggling to come out.

Abruptly, Donovon’s scream turns into a thundering growl as Wolfie stands in the place of Donovon.

Tears flow from my eyes, as I watch Wolfie shaking his fur and standing proudly in front of me. However, there is something different about him. He seems to look more powerful and strong than before, but his eyes hold the same warmth which he always used to have whenever he looked at me.

Before even I can think, my feet take me towards him while he covers the distance between us in one large stride. Throwing my arms around his thick neck, I bury my nose in his soft fur as I break down into tears.

He places his paw behind my back as if he is hugging me back while whining softly. His hot breath brushes against the back of my neck when he rests his head on my shoulder allowing me to cry my heart out.

This moment makes me realize how much I have missed my Wolfie in his true form and the comfort which his presence brought to me. It feels like this is the first time I am sharing my grief with my Wolfie which I have lived through all these past days before my Wolfie and Donovon were away from me.

He playfully growls when I rub my nose against his fur which makes me laugh. Pulling away, I clean my face with the back of my hand as I sniffle. Holding his muzzle in my hands I kiss his head feeling extremely happy to have him back. Bringing his head down to my level he lets me caress his head as he purrs softly. Swallowing my emotions which are choking my throat, I smile as I continue to run my fingers through his fur.

All this seems like a dream as somewhere I have lost the hope that I will ever be able to see him back in his wolf form.

Suddenly, he shoves me with his head which causes me to fall on the floor and the next moment he jumps on me as starts licking my face.

“Stop!” I laugh while trying to push his head away, as he continues to lick my face showing his happiness.

I can feel his contentment through our bond, which is doubling my joy as well.

He lets out a playful growl as he slumps beside me and rests his head on my stomach as I hug him close not wanting to let him go.

“I love you so much, Wolfie.” I smile and scratch the back of his ears.

"Wolfie loves his Cherry, too." I hear his voice inside my head which widens my smile. He slightly turns his head and licks my hand while growling softly.

Today I feel like that I have truly got back my Wolfie, as not only Donovon but even I was feeling incomplete without my best friend.
