Donovon’s POV

“What the hell, Denise?!” I growl in anger as the water bottle falls from my hand because of the sharp pain that engulfs my head, “You could have at least warned me!” I rub my temples feeling dizzy due to the aftereffect of her spell.

“Do you remember getting any announcement letter when you were attacked?” She arches an eyebrow while bouncing Ella in her arms, “One second you were okay, and then the next moment you were a puppet in someone’s hand.”

“A part of your mind should always be ready to shield you against all the spells, you should never let your guards down no matter what you are doing. Even when you are sleeping your mind should be alert enough to fight off any attacks.” Her tone is serious as she gazes into my eyes and gradually I feel the dizziness lifting off from my mind.

Ella lets out a small noise and grabs her face turning towards her.

Ivory is sleeping and Ella was not ready to let me go so I didn’t have any other option to bring her with me to our secret practice session. Denise was more than happy to babysit Ella along with torturing me.

“You wanna try, little one?” She nods her head and focuses on Ella who is looking at her curiously.

“No!” I yell when I figured what she is about to do.

But I freeze in my spot when Ella giggles and stares back at her with the same concentration. Ella effortlessly holds her gaze and never wavers her eyes from her while light layer perspiration starts to form on Denise’s forehead as the playful look vanishes from her face.

Abruptly, Denise releases her grip on Ella while her hands move towards her head as she grits her teeth holding her head. I dash towards them to grab Ella before she can fall on the ground as Storm growls angrily in my mind wanting to rip off Denise’s head for letting go Ella.

But Ella shifts within a blink, and lands gracefully on the ground and hops towards me. Instantly, picking her up I rub my cheek against her trying to calm myself.

"Pup...Pup...My Pup." Storm purrs in my mind attempting to take control as I inhale her sweet scent.

“Don’t you dare come near her!” I growl threateningly when Denise approaches us and extends her hand towards Ella.

The only thing which is stopping me from tearing her is my pup in my arms.

“Aren’t you special, little one?” Denise fondly talks to Ella, completely ignoring me. “Wanna do this again?”

“Denise, try anything on my daughter, I am going to kill you right this moment,” I warn Denise as she studies Ella.

She shifts her eyes away from Ella and smiles at me.

“Your daughter is precious, Donovon.” Her smile turns into a rueful one, “Ella inherited a lot from Ivory. I am afraid if your enemies find out this, then she will inherit her mother’s enemies too.”

“What do you mean?” I hold Ella closely against my chest wrapping my arms protectively around her.

“Your daughter is also born with a blessing,” she speaks and this time her smile turns into a genuine one, “She blessed with the knowledge to shield herself from spells, and from what I have experienced she can even return those spells. But then it is too early to tell everything about her blessing because the blessings completely get revealed when a person comes to age until then they are not constant. However, since Ella has already shifted, so her powers are starting to show even though she is just a baby.”

Glancing down at Ella, I watch her rubbing her muzzle against my chest while lowly growling.

If Moon Goddess has blessed me with her and Ivory then she must have faith in me that I will be able to protect them. I will not let her or them down, I will protect them at any cost. As soon as this thought come into my mind, a strange determination fills my heart as the confidence which was lacking inside me returns, making me feel powerful than before.

A few moments later, I feel a nudge inside my mind, and more than anything it just felt like a prickling sensation. My eye snaps up to Denise in surprise to find her grinning at me.

“It looks like even you have figured to create a shield around your mind.” She smiles proudly while a small wave of satisfaction erupts inside my heart knowing that even though it is slow but at least I am getting somewhere.

“Now you have to work on strengthening that shield.” She pats my arm with a small smile of encouragement, “Donovon, just believe in yourself, your determination will surely help you in achieving your goal. Soon you will get rid of this curse.”
