Wolf Bond

Chapter 78

I don’t need a bond to sense Donovon's worry so I am certain there is something which is bothering him. Since Denise has left he seems troubled, especially after their talk, and it has been two days since I can feel the shift in his mood.

He hasn’t told me anything, but I can see worry is eating him up from the inside. For the past two days, I haven’t got the opportunity to talk to him as such because with so many things going on we didn’t get the time to sit and talk. And whatever free time we had in our hands, it was occupied by Ella.

I think Ella is obsessed with her daddy. She demands to be with him, all the time. The only time she wants me is when she is hungry or when she wants to sleep.

Otherwise, she wants Donovon to be near her or she becomes extremely cranky. She is a daddy’s girl, and there is no doubt in that. I think she is trying to make up for the missing time with him.

Whereas even Donovon never misses any chance to spend time with her. He carries her with him wherever he can. Even when he is training, his little cheerleader is by his side in her carrier basket.

Honestly, it warms my heart to see their love and bonding.

While on the other hand, she has stolen every pack member’s heart with her innocent face and mercurial attitude.

The entire pack went into a celebratory mode when they found out about Ella. And since then they are spoiling her and her wolf with love and affection. Similarly, like everyone else, even the pack members were stunned when she shifted into her wolf, but more than shock the feeling of pride was evident in their eyes.

My lips curl into a faint smile when I notice Arthur playing with Ella. Just like her dad, even her Grandpa is wrapped around her fingers. I find them really adorable as sometimes he even shifts into his wolf and let his wolf become the source entertainment of his granddaughter.

“Will it sound weird if I admit that I am feeling jealous of my own daughter?” Donovon lightly chuckles as he joins me on the front porch and watches Ella and Arthur.

She is laying on her back on the grass, and moving her arms and legs happily when Arthur playfully growls at her.

The louder he growls, the happier Ella seems.

“I have never witnessed this playful side of dad, it is like his this side is only reserved for his granddaughter.” He shakes his head with a fake sigh, and rests his head on my shoulder, “I believe he loves Ella more than me.”

“Awww... that’s true because she is adorable.” I pat his cheek lightly, “While you are just ugly.” Pressing my lips together, I suppress my laugh.

“Thank you, now I feel so loved.” He gives me an unimpressed look.

“Don’t worry, since, I love ugly and adorable both. So, I love you as well.” I kiss his cheek while he is trying hard to look mad at me, but his lips are twitching upward in a betraying smile.

My cheeks turn red in embarrassment when he suddenly steals a kiss from me which earns me a hearty chuckle from him. He wraps his arm around my shoulder and pulls me to his side, placing another kiss on my head.

For a moment, we silently watch Ella but then his chest rises and falls as a small sigh passes through his lips when Arthur shifts into his wolf.

“Donovon, have you tried reaching Wolfie?” I ask when I notice the longing look on his face as now Arthur has shifted into his wolf and he is sitting beside Ella keeping his head on his front paws while she is pulling his fur.

Donovon deeply misses Storm, especially whenever he watches Arthur’s wolf playing with Ella.

I avoid shifting into my wolf because I don’t want to hurt his feelings. As our pups bonding with our wolf is something which is really a big thing for us. Especially, since Ella can already shift, our wolf can easily connect with her on a stronger level.

I have felt the happiness of Fire when she is with Ella in her wolf form. And I know even Wolfie will feel the same joy when he is going to meet Ella’s wolf.

I want Wolfie to meet his pup soon and also I can’t see Donovon looking helpless without his wolf.

“Yeah, I did, but again I hit the barrier.” He makes a face and runs his hand through his hair.

Suddenly, an idea pops into my mind which brings an excited grin on my face.

“Donovon, I have got an idea.” I smile brightly at him, “I think we should try together to reach Wolfie.”

“Barrier is due to the spell, and any spell or magic doesn’t work on me.” I feel myself getting excited with each word, “I will protect you and your mind from the cast while you try to call forward your wolf.”

“No, Ivory, this will not work.” He quickly turns down my idea which makes me frown.

I am damn sure, even if we are unable to break the barrier but at least it will help him to connect with his wolf. Because Wolfie has reached out to me, so if I weaken the influence of the spell somehow then even Donovon might be able to make a connection with his wolf.

“No, Donovon, I can feel this might work.” I hold his hand, looking at him with hopeful eyes, “Please, let’s try this.”

“No, it is not going to work.” He shakes his head while his tone stern than necessary.

I feel myself getting irritated at his denial, because if we will not try this then how we are going to know if this is going to work or not.

“Donovon, there is a possibility that it can work.” I try to reason with him. “And there is no harm in trying. It is not like we are losing anything, instead if it will work then we are only going to gain from it.”

“Ivory, I have said no.” He pulls back his hand from mine, “End of this discussion,” he says with finality and leaves me standing there alone.

I watch his retreating back as he walks inside the house while my mind fills with confusion and annoyance.

Why is he being so adamant? Why is he not letting me help him?
