Chapter 56
Even with people around me, all I feel is alone. My own body has become the grave of me and my daughter.
The emptiness which I am feeling is indescribable. I just feel like somebody has torn me and now there is nothing left of me.
My heart is filled with darkness because the light of my life is gone.
My Ella... my light... is gone.
“Ivy...” James gently runs his finger through my hair, “Sweetheart, talk to me.”
My dry eyes meet my brother’s red eyes as unshed tears shining brightly in them.
“When I will be able to go back to our home?” I ask calmly, my voice sound raspy while my throat screams with protest with each word.
“As soon as the doctor will discharge you.” He picks up my hand and kisses it.
“I want to go home, now.” Blinking my eyes, I look back at the ceiling, “I can’t stay here any longer.”
James and Luca have found me in the clearing when I had passed out and carried me to the pack clinic.
I don’t remember anything after I had passed out, other than I have lost my everything.
“Whatever, you want Ivy.” He presses a kiss on my forehead, “I will take you home this moment.”
After a soft knock, the door opens and Julia and Arthur come inside.
And for the first time, I see tears in Arthur’s eyes while Julia is weeping silently.
“I am sorry... Ivory.” She weeps as she tries to come near me, but James’s warning growl stops her in her tracks.
“Sorry...” He clenches his teeth and shakes his head trying to control his wolf, “My wolf doesn’t want anyone near her, he is extremely protective of her... he can’t see her in pain and after what has happened he is not letting anyone come near her.”
He struggles with controlling his wolf and holding my hand in his hand, he brings it near his nose inhaling my scent trying to keep his wolf calm.
She nods her head in understanding and looks back at me.
Sudden commotion is heard outside the door along with angry growls which I recognize as Luca and Gavin’s.
Arthur’s features get hardened while rage swirls in his eyes.
“I will go and handle him.” He clenches his hands into fists, while Julia looks torn.
However, abruptly the door opens, and Donovon barges inside the room.
“You can’t meet her,” Gavin growls as he comes after him.
Arthur blocks his path, but his eyes are fixed at me.
“Let him.” Lifting my hand, I stop Gavin from dragging him outside.
Arthurs looks at me as if silently asking my permission I give him a nod. Glaring back at Donovon he slightly steps away from him.
Anyone would think that seeing him in front of me is going to hurt me. But after the pain which I have lived the last night, I don’t think now there is anything that can hurt me anymore.
“I...” He swallows as he looks at me, his eyes travel from my face towards my bared womb.
“I don’t know what is happening to me.” He shakes his head, “Last night when she came near me, I felt my wolf stirring inside me...”
“She said it is because she is my true mate and my wolf is recognizing her, all the time when we were together my wolf stirred in my mind. But when she marked me, all I felt like I am burning...” He glances down, clutching his hair in his hands, “I don’t remember what happened next, but when my thoughts cleared I realized that I have marked her. But then your face started to flash before my eyes and I knew all this is wrong but I don’t know why. Because when she was near me I felt my wolf, but with you, I didn’t feel anything.” His eyes look troubled.
“I am feeling so suffocated... I don’t know what is right or wrong... I don’t even know who I am.” He clenches his jaws, “Last night was a huge mistake because I am not at peace, true mate fills your soul with contentment and peace, but all there is just restlessness inside me and even my wolf is completely gone... please help me.” His eyes pleading as he glances at me.
James stands up picking up the steel table he throws it against the window, as his body starts to shakes wildly.
Silently, I extend my hand towards James and instantly he comes to my side.
“Calm down, brother...” I whisper, “Everything is over now, no more pain... no more hurt.”
He kisses my hair and he looks into my eyes, then swallowing back his tears he steps away from me.
“I will help you,” I say with no trace of any emotion, as I turn to look back at Donovon, “I will help you to get rid of this suffocation... I will free you.”
Fire was silent since yesterday, but now I can feel her power running through my veins.
I feel my finger extending into a claw, lifting my other hand I cut my palm from the center. Donovon frowns as he looks at me trying to understand what I am doing, even others are silently watching what’s happening.
Blood gathers in my palm, images of last night, and sound of snapping echoes in my mind, forcing me to close my eyes.
“A part of me is already returned back to you...” I start speaking the words which are flowing through my heart, “Now please accept the sacrifice of my blood...”
James sucks in a sharp breath realizing what I am doing.
“Free my heart from this anguish which is burning my soul. Liberate me from this curse, which should have been a blessing...”
“What are you doing?” Donovon takes a step towards me as his voice trembling.
“Please severe the bond which you have blessed us with, and end my suffering...” I hold Donovon’s gaze unwaveringly, “Accept my offering and unbound my soul.” I close my hand as blood sizzles in my palm.
Donovon clutches his chest and falls to his knees while his face scrunched up in pain.
“What have you done?” He asks as his breathing becomes ragged.
“Released you from this bond,” I reply coldly even though my heart burns with the breaking of the bond, “I promised you once, I would give you anything which you want, but I didn’t know by giving you anything would mean losing my everything.”
"I have fulfilled my promise, just like you did." I watch the pain etched on his features, "The promise of killing me and my child..."
“Please don’t do this...” He lifts his hand towards me while tears run from his eyes, and I see the glimpse of old Donovon in his eyes.
But now I don't have any feelings for him. His pain doesn't matter to me.
Soon numbness settles over me, as I feel the last bit of our bond also shattering.
“You are no longer mate of mine, Donovon Whitmore," I announce impassively as now there is nothing left between us...
Nothing is tying us now anymore.
