Chapter 42
“What are we going here?” I ask feeling curious as he takes me to our spot, which means mine and Wolfie's spot.
“Have patience, dear mate.” He rolls his eyes, playfully, “You will just find out in a few minutes.”
“Ivory.” He suddenly stops and turns me to him, “Just trust me, okay?” He takes something out of his pocket.
“What are you doing?” I ask when I see blindfold in his hand.
“Preparing you for your surprise,” he answers at the same time he covers my eyes with a blindfold.
He holds my hand and gently squeezes it.
“Goodbye, Ivory.” He plants a kiss on my forehead then abruptly releases my hands, leaving me confused as hell.
Where is he going?
“Donovon!” I call him as I try to open the damn blindfold with my good hand, “Donovon!”
I know he is somewhere near me, as I can smell and sense him. But there is some sound of the rustling of clothes, too.
Is he shifting and leaving me alone here? But if he is shifting then it means it's Wolfie and my Wolfie will never leave me alone. So what is going on?
Suddenly hands cover mine and unknots the blindfold as I quickly remove the blindfold and turn around to watch Donovon standing behind me.
“What the hell is this?” I throw the blindfold on the ground as I glare at him. “I am so mad at you right now, what kind of surprise was this?”
He just keeps looking at me while a hint of smile present on his lips.
“Why are you smiling?” I frown, “I am mad at you and you are smiling?”
Then my frown deepens when I notice he has changed his clothes as now he is wearing jeans and a green button-down shirt.
“Why have you changed your clothes?” I ask, still trying to figure what is going on with him.
“I wanted to look good for you.” Running his hands on his shirt, he looks down at his clothes. “Am I looking good?” He glances at me while speaking slowly and his voice sounds hoarse like he hardly uses his voice.
“Of course, you are.” I smile slightly unsure of his behavior, “You always look good, no matter what.”
He looks at me with a big smile as if my words mean so much to him. Then he slowly looks at me from head to toe, his expression looks strange as if this is the first time he has seen me.
“You look so pretty,” He speaks looking at me in awe. "So very pretty." He lifts his hand to touch my face.
This seems weird.
“You are not Donovon.” I step back from him, as I study his face which looks exactly like Donovon but then he doesn’t seem like him at the same time.
“You are not Donovon!” My mouth hangs open in shock as a nervous and excited laugh escapes my mouth, “No way! It can’t be possible.” I shake my head as something clicks in my mind.
The smile on his face turns bigger as he nods his head.
“Wolfie!” I squeal and launch myself at him and he easily catches me in his arms.
“How is that possible?” I ask while releasing him from the hug as my eyes roam around his face.
After a lot of practice and control, you can draw energy from your wolf when you are in your human form. But I have never seen someone stay in their human form even when their wolf has completely taken over.
“Me and human, have been trying this for a while now.” He smiles, “I wanted to meet you in your form, so human helped me with it. He is good, he was ready to help me to meet you like this.”
"I have seen how Fire lends you her strength when you need it." He gazes straight into my eyes like he is communicating with my wolf, "I told this to my human and then even we tried to do the same but this happened..." He points to himself and excitedly grins.
I hug him tightly as I jump on my spot sharing his excitement.
"My Wolfie." I take a step back, as I look at him grinning from ear to ear.
“Your hair is so soft, Cherry.” He takes a few strands of hair between his fingers as he looks fascinated which makes me laugh.
“Your fur is also so soft, Wolfie.” I scratch his head just like I do when he is in his wolf form.
I can’t help but smile when he closes his eyes and lightly purrs. He is still my Wolfie, my big goofball.
“Oh, I love you, Wolfie.” I wrap my arms around his waist feeling so happy to meet him like this.
“I love you, too, Cherry.” He kisses my head, hugging me back.
“You are so good at this.” I praise Wolfie as he kicks the ball.Wolfie asked me if we can play with the ball as humans play. And I immediately say yes.
So now I am playing soccer with him in my dress, barefooted as my heels were not helping me to kick the ball. But the sweet wolf he is, he first walked around the area barefooted to make sure there is nothing which will hurt me. But since he was not satisfied so we came to my old house, because our backyard has soft grass.
And now we are chasing the ball.
However, It took a while for him to learn how to kick a ball, as whenever I threw or kicked the ball at him he used to catch it and bring it back to me as if we are playing fetch.
“You are a good teacher.” He looks down, slightly embarrassed.
“Awww... you are blushing, Wolfie” I pinch his cheek, “My Wolfie is so cute.”
“Wolfie is not cute.” He complains while slightly pouting.
He is super cute.
“Whose Wolfie are you?” I keep my hands on my hips and playfully glare at him.
“Yours,” he instantly replies.
“Then when I say you are cute then you are cute, understand?” I raise my eyebrows at him.
His eyes slightly widen and he nods his head quickly.
“Good.” I press my lips together, “Now, say Cherry’s Wolfie is cute.”
“Cherry’s Wolfie is cute,” he mumbles.
“Now say, Cherry and Wolfie are best friends forever,” I say while grinning.
“Cherry and Wolfie are best friends forever,” he repeats happily as lifting me up he spins me around making me loudly laugh.
“Let’s go and play with water.” He puts me down and looks at me excitedly.
“Not now, Wolfie,” I say in a small voice, feeling sad because he seemed so excited for it, “It hurts to move my hand as it is not fully healed.”
I have been very careful not to move my hand much as even though it is not hurting like it was, but still, it hurts.
“I don’t like to see you hurt.” He takes my hand gently in his and kisses it lightly, “I wish to take this pain away from you.” His eyes hold so much sadness as if my pain is hurting him too.
“It will go away once it will be fully healed in a few days.” I smile at him reassuringly, "Then we will go for a swim." I try to cheer him up.
“But its mark will always remain, and it will remind me that I wasn’t able to save you from getting hurt. I am a bad friend.” When he lifts his eyes, tears are swimming in his eyes, “Even my human is angry with himself for letting you get hurt.”
"No, you are not a bad friend," I say shaking my head. "You are the best."
But he continues to look upset as if he hasn't heard what I have said.
“We both were scared to lose you, you are our everything,” he whispers softly as a single tear rolls down his cheek which makes him frown.
“I would willingly bear any pain for you, if it means you are okay, you know why?” I caress his face wiping his tears as my own eyes are tearing up, “Because, you... Donovon, are my everything.”
“I have found a life-long friend in you, Wolfie, and a loving mate in Donovon.” I smile softly at him, “And I would do anything for you.”
“I am never afraid of pain or getting hurt because I know you will be there to share my pain with me. You will be my strength when I will be vulnerable.” I take his hand in mine while meeting his gaze, “Just like I will be always there for you.”
