Chapter 41
If I would say I am not enjoying all the attention which I am getting from the pack members, then I am clearly lying.
Never in my life, I have felt so special and loved. My family and my previous pack members loved me because I am a part of them.
But this is different.
I was an outsider whom they have welcomed with open arms. I can feel their love and respect for me. Moreover, the way everyone is protective of me after the incident makes me believe there is always something good amid of bad.
If this wouldn’t have happened then I would have never found out how much they all love me. Since I have formed a bond them, now I can sense their feelings.
“I have to clean this thoroughly to remove any traces of wolfsbane. ” Doctor Marvin, one of the pack doctor, says as she inspects my hand, “Thankfully, wolfsbane has not entered in your system much, as Alpha took care of it.” She smiles and nods at head Donovon who is standing rigid at my side while his eyes are fixed at my hand.
Donovon brought me to the pack’s clinic to get my hand treated, after ordering everyone to continue with the party.
“I am sorry, Luna, this will hurt a little,” she says in a gentle tone.
“Well, trust me, whatever I have felt earlier I am sure as compare to that this will feel like feather-like touch.” I lightly laugh while joking.
Even though she is really very gentle and quick in treating my injury but I can’t help but flinch which makes Donovon growls.
“I am sorry, Alpha.” She apologizes looking slightly scared.
“Donovon.” I glare at him, “Stop, scaring her. She is not hurting me, she is doing her job.”
“I am sorry on his behalf.” I give her a small smile.
She quickly gets back to treating my wound and I try my best not to show any pain on my face.
“Thank you.” I hop down from the examination table as she finishes wrapping a bandage around my hand.
“It will take some time to be fully healed so try to avoid shifting for some days as your wound might split open.” She walks around her table and sits on her chair. “I am writing some medicines which will remove any remaining traces of wolfsbane from your system and speed up your healing process.” She scribes something on her pad.
“Alpha, I suggest you should also get a shot.” She glances at Donovon after she finishes writing my prescription. “Just to be safe.”
I want to ask why does he need to get a shot, but I stay quiet planning to ask Donovon later.
“Okay.” Donovon rolls his sleeves up, as I watch her prepare an injection.
After the ceremony, he wore a cream-colored shirt. When I inquired him why he wasn’t wearing a shirt before he said it was necessary for everyone to see my mark on his neck, just like it was important for me to show his mark. So that everyone knows that we both belong to each other.
“Relax your arm,” Dr. Marvin instructs as she brings the needle near his arm.
I swallow, feeling queasy as I glance at the needle. Okay, let me admit I am not a fan of needles. Even watching them makes me want to run away in the corner.
In one swift motion, she injects the liquid in Donovon’s arm after cleaning the area.
“Scared of needles, I see.” Donovon's lips curve in a teasing smirk when he notices my pale expression.
I glance at the doctor to find her trying hard to keep her face straight as she tries to suppress her laugh.
“You know, you can laugh.” I shake my head slightly laughing, “I will not mind.” This makes her smile widely.
“And yeah, I am scared of needles. So what?” I shrug nonchalantly, looking at Donovon. “It will not make me any less badass, I have proof on my hand of how awesome I am.” I wave my bandaged hand, in front of his amused face, smugly.
We walk back to the main ground after the visit to the pack’s clinic to join others. Donovon’s arm is snaked around my waist as he keeps me closer to himself.
There are some questions running in my mind which I need to ask Donovon. But they are not something serious so I have decided to save them for later and for now, just enjoy being with everyone.
Several tables cover more than half of the area, while the entire place is decorated with fairy lights. It is simple, but it looks beautiful.
A large buffet table is set up in the corner piled with enough food to feed an army of thousand soldiers. While there is a separate set up for pups with small tables, balls pit, jumping castle, etc. So even they can enjoy themselves.
“How are you feeling now?” Julia asks as soon as we approach their table where they are sitting with the elders.
“I am feeling much better, thank you.” I smile as Donovon pulls out a chair for me. “Although it will take some time to heal.”
“I am sorry I couldn’t warn you,” Ophelia quietly says, her tone full of guilt. “Whoever had placed the cast is some powerful witch who had concealed her magic, I was only able to notice when I have held the knife.”
“Can we not talk about all this depressing stuff now?” I dramatically sigh, and slump in my chair, trying to ease the tension, “Because I just want to focus on delicious food, music, and dance. In short, I want to just enjoy myself and be happy.”
“Whatever happened has happened, we can’t change it.” I smile looking at everyone, “So instead of letting it dampen our spirits, we should be happy. Because whoever was behind all this, was not successful in their motive. As we all are sitting here together and we all are fine.”
“She is right, we can talk about this later.” Elijah gives me a small smile, “As for now we should just celebrate Alpha and Luna’s happiness with them.”
“Cheers to Alpha and Luna.” He raises his glass for the toast as everyone clinks their glasses with him.
Soon the conversation turns informal as we all talk about our families.
The elders are friends and have been together for centuries. Elijah is still waiting for his mate, while Benjamin was the first one to find his mate as his mate was already his friend and Albert found his mate around twenty years ago.
Recently, Albert became a grandfather to a baby girl and you can tell that little girl has wrapped his grandfather around her little finger. His eyes soften whenever he talks about her, otherwise, his face remains stoic. While Benjamin and Ophelia have three children, two girls, and one boy.
My head turns to the makeshift dance floor when the atmosphere fills with music. Not a few moments have passed and most of the pack members are on the dance floor.
What I love the most is that everyone is enjoying themselves regardless of their age. Even Arthur and Julia has joined them.
“Let’s dance.” I grab Donovon’s hand, and try to pull him up, “Everyone is dancing we should also join them.” I turn my head back to the dance floor then to Donovon.
“Say please.” He smiles in a teasing manner.
“Pleaseeeee.” I drawl out the word while shaking his arm.
“Let me think.” He taps his index finger on his chin while pretending to think.
“Okay, no problem, I will go and dance alone.” I huff angrily and leaving his hand, I start walking towards the dance floor.
“Wait up! My short-tempered Luna.” He chuckles and catches up with me in two long strides.
“Hurry up! My slowpoke Alpha.” I stick out my tongue at him, as he playfully growls at me.
Grabbing my arm, Donovon pulls me back to him as we reach the dance the floor and starts swaying slowly as the music changes to some slow song. Wrapping my arms around his neck, I look into his gaze with a smile as his hands are settled on my hips.
After everything has happened I am just glad to be with him. As long as he is with me I think everything will be fine.
After dancing for a while, we leave the dance floor as he guides me in the opposite direction of the party.
“Come one, we have to go somewhere else,” Donovon whispers in my ear and for some reason, he sounds really excited.
“Where?” Lifting my head to look at him, I ask him in an equally quiet tone.
“It is a surprise.” He softly kisses my lips. “A surprise that your Wolfie has planned for you.”
