Wolf Bond

Chapter 29

After shifting into our wolves we both walk towards our house, instead of going to the packhouse, as he said he wanted to spend some more alone time with me.

I pace in the back garden of our house, as Donovon has gone inside the house to bring some clothes for me to change into when I shift back.

Since this was my second time shifting it was really painful, thankfully, Fire helped me in bearing the pain. But still, it did hurt even more than my first-time shift.

I stop pacing when Donovon walks outside only wearing a sweatpant while carrying a large shirt in his hand.

I rub my head against his hand enjoying the feeling of his touch. He lightly chuckles and runs his fingers in my fur.

“Beautiful, my beautiful mate.” He murmurs as he takes my muzzle in his hands and places a kiss on my head.

I act before I could think and jump on him making him fall on the ground and start rubbing myself on him. Then placing my paws lightly on his chest, I lick his face.

“Fire.” He growls and chuckles loudly when I lick his neck.

“You behave just like a pup.” He smiles and wraps his arms around my neck.

“Okay, now shift.” He says while leaning up on his elbows.

Shaking my head in no, I curl beside him. I want to shift, at the same time, I don’t want to as I am enjoying being in my wolf form.

“Please, Fire, I want my Ivory back.” He sits up and strokes my back.

And just like that my bones crackle again and I find myself curled on the ground. I whimper as my every bone is aching.

“I know, it hurts.” Donovon whispers and kisses my head.

I can’t help but scream when he helps me to wear the shirt as the movement shoots waves of pain in my spine. He very gently picks me up and carries me inside the house.

“Isn’t this strange?” He smiles, “That I carried you, every time I brought you back in this house.”

“So should we make it a tradition that every time we will come here you will carry me?” I keep my head on his shoulder as the warmth radiating from his body helping in easing the pain.

“I don’t mind at all as I get to keep you this close to me.” He raises his eyebrows and shrugs.

Entering the bedroom, he puts me on the bed. But as soon as he steps away, the lack of his touch increases the pain making me hold my breath.

“Donovon.” I whimper, not understanding why it hurts now so much as I don’t remember the pain being this bad the first time, “Your touch it is easing the pain.”

His eyes shine in understanding as he nods to himself.

Instantly, he gets inside the bed and pulls me into his chest as he runs his hand up and down my back.

Hooking his finger in the collar of my shirt he pulls down from one side baring my shoulder. He licks my collar bone and side of my neck, making me groan and slightly push him away.

He lowly growls and grips me tightly, but refuses to stop. He continues to lap my skin while growling from time to time. After a few moments, he pecks my skin a few more times then simply holds me in his arms.

“Touch of your mate lessens the pain, also if one is not severely hurt the other can heal them by just licking their wound.” He touches the base of my neck and drags his finger towards my collar bone where Emma had slashed my skin.

“Your wound... it is completely healed.” He looks at my neck feeling satisfied.

Now I understand why I haven’t felt this much pain before as he never left me even for a moment until the pain subdued.

“Thank you.” I smile, raising my head I peck his lips.

“It feels like my every bone has been snapped.” I murmur and wrap my arm around him while snuggling more into him, basking in his warmth.

“That because it has been snapped, and every time when you will shift int your wolf or human form your bones will be rearranged. However, with time it will become painless.” He slips his hand under my shirt and rubs circles on my back.

The feeling of his skin on mine instantly soothes the ache even more.

“I have never seen anyone shifting into their wolf so quickly during the first shift.” His voice holds awe, “Normally, it takes hours. But you shifted within a blink of an eye, just like you have been shifting from years.”

“I don’t know, I saw her coming towards me then next moment I felt extreme pain and lost my consciousness. When my vision cleared I was in my wolf form.”

“So, you don’t remember almost shredding Emma’s wolf into pieces as soon as you shifted?” He laughs with amusement.

“No.” I shake my head and look at him, “I just remember seeing her on the ground.”

“Did I hurt her really bad?” I feel slightly, like slightest of the slightest, bad for hurting her.

“I know you are kind, but still, you are not that much kind that you will feel bad for hurting someone who was about to attack you.” He laughs raising his eyebrows at me.

“No, you are wrong, I do feel bad for hurting her.” I try to say with a serious face but the laugh bubbling inside me is telling a completely different story.

“Yeah... yeah, of course.” He nods his head with rolling his eyes.

“Let’s not ruin our time by talking about her, when we can do a lot more interesting things.” He grins mischievously as he hovers over me caging me beneath him. “That will help you with your pain even more.”

Suddenly, I recall Emma’s word from last night and an uneasy feeling grips my heart. He quickly sensed the shift in my mood, as he worriedly looks at me.

“I can sense something is bothering you.” He glances into my eyes, but I turn my face away.

“Hey... did I do something to upset you?” He asks quietly, “You are worrying me, Ivory.”

“It is nothing.” I shake my head, closing my eyes.

“Talk to me, Ivory.” He caresses my face.

“Was someone in your life before me?” I swallow, still keeping my eyes closed because if I look at his face I can’t ask him what I need to know, “It is okay, even there was, but please don’t lie to me.”

My heart clenches by the thought of him being with someone else, but I know it is possible that he might have loved her. Because we may get attracted to other people before we have found our mates.

“Why are you asking such question?” He sounds concerned, “Has anyone said to you something?”

“Do you ever had feelings for Emma?” Opening my eyes, I ask him directly.

“Ivory...” He trails off, but the faint shock in his eyes answers my question.

Gently, pushing him off me, I turn on my side. Pain flares in my body due to the loss of contact with him, but I can tolerate this pain however the pain in my heart is something which is forcing me to cry.

“Ivory, believe me when I say that I only love you.” Holding my face with his hand, he turns my face towards him, “There is no one in my heart other than you.” He presses his forehead against mine, letting his true feelings reach me through our bond encasing me a wonderful feeling of love.

“I know, Donovon.” I nod my head, “I trust you. That is why I need to know the truth.”

He takes a deep breath and I brace myself for hearing the truth which I somewhere already know.

“Emma and I, we are friends since childhood.” He swallows and opens our bond allowing me to sense the truth behind his words, “At one point, I did like her... because we both used to think that we are going to be each other's mates. But at the same time, my heart never felt the connection with her which you should feel with your mate. I thought maybe it is because we haven’t turned eighteen yet. So, she always has been just a good friend of mine, nothing more”

“However, from the beginning, I know the only girl I am going to be with will be my mate.” He holds my hand and places a kiss on my palm, “I can never hurt her by being with someone else when she is the one who has right on me and my love.”

“I never loved her, Ivory.” He shakes his head, “Because I was always in love with my mate. While my wolf was smitten by a girl who assured him that she would not hurt him, even though she wasn’t even half of his size. Also who claimed him as her Wolfie.” He chuckles in amusement and kisses my nose making me smile.

“So, for me, it's always you." He brushes his lips against mine, "Always you, my precious mate."
