Chapter 20
Donovon’s POV
It was decided that Ivory’s secret will remain between us and it will not be disclosed to anyone as the more people will know, the more she will be at risk.
James has asked not to let Ivory know about any of this, as she will be worried out of her mind.
I have sent a group of warriors to accompany James and his family back to their pack, as I can’t take any chances with their safety as well.
James has left Jenna and two of his warriors, Gavin and Luca, here with Ivory for the peace of his mind. Even though Ivory’s protection is now our responsibility but I can see how much James is worried about his sister so I gave my permission to let his warriors stay in my pack.
However, my heart broke when I saw Ivory crying as she wasn’t ready to say goodbye to James. But eventually, she calmed down when James promised to meet her soon.
I wanted to tell Ivory that she can go and meet her brother whenever she wants, but I know it is not possible at least for now. As we can’t risk Ivory by letting her leave the pack boundary. She has to stay here as long as we don’t eliminate this threat to her.
Even I have tightened the security around the pack borders and ordered not to let anyone pass without my permission.
Checking the clock hanging on the opposite wall, I realize it is almost time for breakfast. Ivory went to sleep again as when James left as it was three in the morning. While I started my day early because I don’t think I would be able to sleep without making sure we are prepared enough to keep Ivory protected.
When I go for breakfast, everyone is already up and making their way to the breakfast table. When they notice me, they nod their head in respect with a smile.
I take my seat on the breakfast table while my eyes flicker to the doorway which leads to my private section of the house.
When breakfast is served, everyone waits for me to start eating so that they can eat. Everyone eats after me, only when we are having any meal on the table. Otherwise, it is not a compulsion. It is just a way of showing respect to their Alpha.
I stop in a mid-bite as the scent of my mate reaches my nose and my lips tilt up in a smile when I notice she is silently trying to walk out of the door.
“Ivory,” I call her and notice her flinch as she stops and turns to look at me.
“Breakfast?” I arch my eyebrow at her and point at the table which causes her to make a face. From what I have figured in these past few days, Ivory doesn’t like to have breakfast.
“I am not hungry.” She pouts.
“Still have something.” I nod my head at her, hiding my laugh when she drags her feet towards the table.
Instead of making a plate for herself, she pleasantly surprises me by holding my hand and taking a small bite from the sandwich which I am holding.
Sharing our food with our mates is considered something really significant in our pack. It is a way of showing your love and care towards your mate. That’s why when she fed me with her hands for the first time, almost everyone was shocked. However, there was no bound to my happiness because my mate was feeding me even though at that time she was not aware of our bond.
A similar feeling engulfs my heart even now when she eats from my hand. While I can sense the awe of my pack members as they can feel the love between their Alpha and Luna.
“See, I ate the sandwich, now I am going.” She quickly rushes out of the house while everyone laughs amused by the antics of their Luna.
Quickly, swallowing the remaining sandwich in two bites, I follow her.
I walk outside to find she is talking to... plants?
“What are you doing?” I frown looking at her in confusion.
“Talking to them.” She turns her face to me, as she points at the plants on the side of the packhouse.
“Huh?” I still feel confused but when I walk a little near to her I notice a pair of chipmunks obscured with plants eating peanuts which probably she has given them.
“Aren’t they cute?” She smiles looking at them, “I give them peanuts, now I think they like me.”
Everyone likes her, she is so kind.
Storm gushes over her.
“Bye.” She waves at them when after eating peanuts they run off in another direction.
Wiping her hands over her jeans, she stands up and looks at me.
I want to meet her and wish her birthday.
Even though I still want to spend time with her, but I know have to let out Storm to meet her.
“Storm wants to meet you.” I smile and shake my head at her as her entire face brightens. I think I am competing with my own wolf.
Taking a few steps back, I instantly shift into my wolf and watch my giant wolf behaving like a puppy as he bounces happily around her while rubbing our scent on her.
“Wolfie!” She exclaims as she buries her face in his neck while hugging him.
“Let’s race.” She pulls away and strokes his muzzle.
“I challenge you to race with me to the training grounds.” She keeps her hands on her hips, while gasps of shock are heard as everyone knows my wolf doesn’t like being challenged and doesn’t take any challenge lightly even if the other person is joking.
Storm lets out a bark as he nudges her with muzzle almost making her fall, already liking the idea of racing her.
From the corner of my eyes, I notice someone trying to reach for Ivory which instantly makes Storm angry as he fiercely growls at the person.
“Bow your head in submission, he will forgive you as you are his mate.” One of my pack members says while looking frightened, “You never challenge Alpha, he doesn’t take it lightly.”
This makes Storm growls even more loudly, as we both don’t like the idea of our mate bowing to us. Moreover, he is annoyed that anyone else is trying to come between Ivory and him. Even though he is aware that they are concerned for Ivory but still, it doesn’t mean that he should like it.
Ivory looks around with a frown not understanding why everyone looks worried, then her gaze shifts back to us.
Storm whines when he looks at the frown on her face and licks her hand.
“You don’t like to race?” She asks as she runs her hand in our fur.
He instantly shakes his head, as I can feel his frustration being not able to communicate with her as it is only possible when we have mated completely.
“You want to race?” She grins and nods her head as Storm smiles at her lolling his tongue to the side.
“Okay, then on the count of three.” She positions herself beside us, as she gives us a challenging look.
“One... two... three...” She sprints off, and I have expected Storm to go easy on her but I am proven wrong as instantly he is running by her side.
Storm lets out a playful howl when he crosses her, but we both get surprised as in the next moment she passes us increasing her speed.
What surprises us even more that she is keeping up with us when we are running at our full potential.
As soon as the training ground comes in our sight Ivory dashes clearly leaving everyone in shock including myself.
However, the feeling of pride swells in our chest even after being defeated by her.
She is strong.
Storm puffs out his chest as he walks to her while Ivory is beaming clearly happy with our reaction.
“Even you are strong.” She smiles then surprise passes over her features while I am already looking at her with a dumbfounded look.
How the hell she could hear what Storm has said?
