Wish Upon A Demon

Chapter BONUS CHAPTER #2

BONUS CHAPTER #2

“Are you crazy? No!”

I flail my arms. “Don’t be dramatic Faye,” Zylen says, calmly. “How are you so calm, demon boy?” I grab his shoulders. He places his hands atop mine, “Faye, it’s going to be okay.” He says. “We have to tell my mother. We have to.” He continues. I shake my head. “No Zylen. Verona is going to be pissed.” I tell him. He nods, “I know but we have no choice. It’s been a very long since this has happened, it’s a fragile situation. Trust me, she’ll be madder if we don’t tell her.” But this situation he means that it’s been many, many centuries since a Royal demon got pregnant. Zylen wanted to inform the elders because he believed we needed their advice and guidance to allow me to carry to term safely.

“Look, I’m not saying we shouldn’t tell her. I’m saying I just need more time. It’s only been a short time since the war. The kingdoms are still recovering. There is so much to be done. We can’t just freak everyone out with this news.” I tell him. “Plus, Verona warned us to use condoms. Damn it, we should’ve listened. This is all your fault!” I hit him on the arm. Zylen doesn’t even flinch. “I told you. I told you to use it that day!” He flinches this time. “It was a quickie! You had me in you before I could even think otherwise! This is your fault lady!” The vein in his neck pops as his cheeks flame red. “My fault?” I point to myself. “My fault? How is this my fault? I wasn’t the one touching you under the table. I wasn’t the one who pulled you into the kitchen. I wasn’t the one who wanted it so damn bad!” I retaliate, pushing at his chest with a finger.

He grabs my finger, snakes an arm around my waist and pulls me close.

“Are you saying you don’t want me?” He asks, minty breath fanning my face. We’ve slept together so many times, are married, have been in this close so many times and yet his proximity always has such a strong effect on me. Somehow, my mind always goes blank. “I…I’m not saying…that, I mean-” He leans in closer, I tilt my head back. “Zylen, I think…I…” I bite my lip. Forcing myself to push him back, I push my hair from my forehead. “See, this is what I’m talking about,” I say. “We get too close, lose ourselves and boom! I’m pregnant.” I tell him. He grins, hands on my shoulders.

“It’ll be okay, Faye.” He says. “Easy for you to say. You’re not the one who has to pop out a full-grown demon baby from their vagina.” I huff. “If I could, I would. But I’m also glad I can’t.” Zylen kisses my cheek. I let out a light laugh, kissing him on the lips. “You don’t have any other thoughts, yeah? Like…” I shake my head. “Of course not! I want this baby. I’m just not thrilled to bear your mother’s wrath on finding out.” I say. “That makes two of us.” He says.

“I love you, Faye. Thank you.” He keeps his forehead against mine.

“I love you too, demon boy.” I smile.

“You’re pregnant?!” Verona King screeches.

I’m sitting at the dining table. Zylen and I were feeding each other little pastries when Verona King ran in. I look to Zylen in a way that says, ‘Did you tell her?’ He shakes his head. I didn’t tell her either. Then who did? “Uhm, who told you this?” I ask. “Fiona, your personal maid.” Verona shrugs and then resumes being angry. That little demon idiot. “Hmmm…” I don’t know what to say. Verona cocks her head. “Well, are you?” She asks. I pretend to think, “I mean…it’s complicated…” I shrug. Zylen fingers entwine with mine under the table.

“Yes or no, Faye?” She asks.

“Yes?” I test it. She nods, her face impassive. “What about the two dozen condoms boxes I gave you as a welcome home gift?” She’s speaking of the day I decided to come back to the kingdom and resume my role as the ruler of Friella. However, I spent much more time here than I spent in my own kingdom. Maybe because Zylen and I were already married. But she didn’t know that and I wanted to take it one shock at a time.

“We used them all-”

“We forgot to use one-”

Zylen and I say at the same time.

Verona’s eyes widen. “Which is it?” She lifts a brow. “What we meant to say was….we forgot to use one because we used them all. So like there were none left to use.” Zylen says. I slap his arm, gritting my teeth. “You used all of them up?!” Verona lifts her hands to her. “I know you’re young but this is too much! And you’re pregnant Faye!” She says. I don’t know whether she’s ecstatic or sad about it. “There hasn’t been a royal pregnancy in this kingdom for centuries! The goddesses have blessed us for sure! We…we…we have to get you married cause no grandchild of mine is going to be out of wedlock.” I go to speak but she lifts a hand. “Don’t spew your feminism crap, my dear, I’m over it. I support all of it but you need to get married.” She gushes. I go to speak again but she shushes me. I roll my eyes.

“Verona, what I’m trying to say is…Zylen and I…we’re already married.”

Verona screeches. Again. I place a hand on my belly, hoping the little thing inside me isn’t going into shock from all the noise coming from Verona’s mouth. Zylen scrunches his face. “You both got married? When? What? How? When?” She asks. And so we tell her about the little ceremony in the little chapel. She nods along. “Okay. But no one else knows?” We shake our heads. “Good. It’s time to make this official. We have to have a wedding here like ASAP. And then we can break out the news of the pregnancy.” Zylen and I nod along. It’s what we wanted. She’s actually handling all of this better than I thought she would. I’m happy she is though. I don’t know what I’d do if she were angry and disappointed about all of this.

Verona comes close.

“Faye dear, you’ve made me so happy! And when the kingdom gets to know of the news-” She places a hand on my belly. “They’ll be so proud.” I smile with her, feeling teary. “I can’t wait to be the best grandmother.” She says. “Orlando well, of course, he won’t be the best grandfather so I think that award would go to Fred.” She rolls her eyes. I gasp at the thought of my father. “Zylen, we completely forgot about dad. We have to tell him soon. I’m sure he and Alana will be ecstatic.” I smile, clutching his hand.

“You’re pregnant?!” Screams dad, veins popping, anger in his eyes.

So yeah, maybe his reaction was the one we needed to be afraid of.
