When Love Breaks (Josephine)

Chapter 101

Josephine's gaze turned cold as she looked at Zayn. "This is your and Nadine's home, not mine. If you want to keep those photos so badly, go ahead. As long as Nadine doesn't mind, it's none of my business!" With that, she smiled politely, turned on her heel, and headed for the door.

"Josephine!"

"You've got the wrong idea, Mrs. Forbes! There's nothing between Zayn and me! I just came by to drop off some medicine for him. Please, calm down."

Truthfully, Josephine was so tired of the same exhausting drama. She wished she could just cover her ears and block it all out.

Right then, George abruptly turned around and yelled, "One of you knows the other's married but still shamelessly throws herself at him, and the other knows this woman has ulterior motives and still refuses to kick her out. You two are practically a perfect match-what misunderstanding are we even talking about?"

Josephine nearly burst into laughter, but the smile never reached her lips, as it soon turned bitter. Even George could tell what was going on, yet Zayn was still pretending to be clueless-acting like an idiot while treating her like one, too.

Besides, she had really been foolish to give him six months to sort things out. She should've cut him off the moment she found out.

Once she got into the car, Josephine looked at George's bruised face and felt a pang of guilt. If she hadn't dragged him into that mess just to vent her frustrations, he wouldn't have gotten hurt. "I'm sorry... You got caught up in this because of me."

Yet, he grinned. "This is nothing! It makes me look more rugged, don't you think? Besides, I'll just tell Mr. Dane. He'll definitely cover my medical expenses."

Josephine quickly objected. "No, don't tell him. I'll cover your medical expenses." "No, no, that won't do. Mr. Dane already told me not to take a single penny from you. If he finds out I accepted your money, I'll get fired!"

"If neither of us tells him, how would he know?" Ignoring his protests, she pulled out her phone and transferred him ten thousand dollars. "When you have the chance, get yourself

checked out at the hospital. Let me know if that's not enough"

"This is more than enough! A tube of ointment costs, what, a couple of dollars? Ms. Dunn, you're way too generous!"

Ten thousand dollars wasn't a small amount, but considering the situation earlier —if George hadn't stepped in, she would've been facing those two on her own; she had no idea how things would've turned out.

Every time she'd gone up against them in the past, she had lost-either with a concussion or just stressed out to the point of a health scare This time, she might not have won a sweeping victory, but at least she left with her dignity intact.

By the time she returned to Ethan's villa, she was utterly drained. The moment she stepped into the living room, she collapsed onto the couch. She was exhausted. Mentally and physically.

Just then, a beautiful woman in an apron walked over. "Ms. Dunn, I'm Mr. Dane's nutritionist. He instructed me to make sure you eat properly. It's already past 2:00 pm; you really should eat something."

Josephine blinked, slowly coming back to her senses. She then touched her stomach. Now that she thought about it, she was a little hungry. So, she followed the nutritionist to the dining table and sat down.

But the moment she saw what was on the table, her appetite vanished. This was way too healthy. There was a plate of leafy green salad, a piece of seared salmon, a bowl of brown rice, and a bowl of soup with goji berries floating in it.

"I just remembered—I already ate outside. I'm still a little full, so I don't think I can manage this right now. I'll just head to my room and rest." With that, she bolted. Josephine felt a little bad for turning down the food, but there was no way she was going to force herself to eat just to spare the nutritionist's feelings.
