Chapter 355 I'm Your Husband
Kiran's expression turned momentarily sour when he heard Lewis' words, but he quickly regained his composure.
"Of course. To receive such care from Master Robert and Chairman Alvarez, I'll dedicate myself wholeheartedly to the Alvarez family."
After reading the room, Phineas quickly fetched a chair and placed it behind Lewis.
The man leisurely sat down and glanced at the bandages wrapped around Kiran's body.
"President Kiran, what happened to you? Your injuries look serious. Did you get bitten by something?"
Kiran played dumb. "It might have been a water snake. It was too dark, and I couldn't see clearly."
"You survived even though you couldn't see clearly. You must have a lucky star shining upon you." "I hope so."
The two engaged in casual small talk as if nothing had happened. Robert stood by awkwardly for no apparent reason. Kiran didn't expect Lewis to show up directly. He must look like a piece of meat lying on a chopping board to Lewis.
He had tried everything to harm Lewis, yet he became the laughingstock now.
Being embarrassed was one thing, but he feared Lewis would take advantage of his current situation and secretly plan something. Moreover, there was no progress regarding the tracker Sierra had placed on him. Most likely, Lewis had discovered it.
Suddenly, Robert said, "Lewis, since you're here to visit President Kiran, I'll take my leave."
Lewis nodded slightly. "Goodbye, father."
Robert smiled and turned to leave. However, his face fell as soon as he stepped out of the ward.
He glanced at the bodyguard standing at the door, who had his head lowered and dared not speak.
"Come with me," Robert said, his tone stern.
Helpless, the bodyguard followed Robert to a corner of the staircase.
Robert looked at the bodyguard with a solemn expression. "What did I tell you?"
The bodyguard hesitated, struggling to find the right words. "But... Chairman Alvarez ..."
"What about him? Are you going to listen to him or listen to me? It seems that what I say no longer holds any weight!" Robert sneered. "I don't even know why you're so eager to switch sides." The bodyguard couldn't find a way to respond. They were clearly a family, but why did it feel like they were enemies?
He thought it would be better for Robert to get along with Lewis.
"Aren't you and Chairman Alvarez a family?" the bodyguard asked.
Robert pointed at him, his face flushed with anger, but he couldn't come up with a coherent response.
In the end, he could only storm off in frustration.
Quintin took Josephine to a cafe since most restaurants were closed at that hour. They could only have some afternoon tea.
He ordered a glass of Coke for Josephine with pizza and fried chicken wings. He knew she enjoyed those.
Josephine held the Coke in one hand and wore a disposable glove on the other as she stuffed the chicken wings into her mouth. "Slow down. No one is going to snatch the food away from you," Quintin said, picking up a tissue to wipe her mouth. Josephine glanced at him while eating. She puffed her cheeks and smiled at him.
She had already regarded him as her benefactor. As long as Quintin could bring her delicious food, she wanted to stay by his side.
That was her current mindset.
She still felt hungry, even after finishing one serving. So Quintin called the waiter to bring another serving.
Quintin propped his chin on his hand and absent-mindedly watched her eat.
She seemed genuinely famished.
Quintin didn't know that Josephine hadn't been able to eat properly for quite some time before this because she was always burdened by worries. She had no appetite no matter what she tried to eat. Yet things were different now. After Josephine lost her memories, she didn't have to worry about anything. Of course, her appetite would increase.
She ate a lot, finishing both servings of food and drinking all the Coke. She cradled her stomach, feeling satisfied. She smiled sheepishly at Quintin. Quintin couldn't help but laugh at her demeanor and called the waiter over to pay the bill.
However, he still pondered how to prevent Lewis from snatching her away.
If that despicable man found out that Josephine had regressed to five years old, he would surely use it as an excuse to take her back. Thoughts ran through Quintin's mind, but he realized taking Josephine away might be the only option he had.
But he recalled the consequences of taking her away last time and had to dismiss that thought.
Frustrated, Quintin scratched his head and cursed Lewis in his mind once again.
Once Josephine finished her meal, he took her back home.
When they returned to their neighborhood, Quintin even bought a bunch of snacks from the supermarket downstairs.
After paying, he glanced at the meager ten dollars left in his wallet and began to feel a headache.
He had already spent all the money his older brother had given him.
Raising a child was indeed expensive.
Yet he couldn't find a job in his current state. If he were to leave, Josephine might end up lost.
After thinking it over, Quintin walked over to a chair in the neighborhood and sat down before calling Warren.
"Warren ..." Quintin chuckled awkwardly.
Warren instantly saw through his intentions. "What now? Have you run out of money again?"
"Hehe, as expected, you know me best. Can you help me out a bit?"
Warren sighed. "Are you still in a deadlock with Dad? He called me last night and told me not to give you any more money."
"Warren, I can't explain it to you right now. But I really need some money. Can you help me out?"
"Fine, I'll have someone bring it to you later. But let me remind you, don't let one woman drag down your family. Are your family members worth less than a woman?"
Quintin didn't like hearing that and replied irritably, "You and Dad are the same. Interests matter more than anything to you people. You wouldn't understand. Forget it. I'm hanging up."
Not wanting to listen to Warren's lecturing, Quintin hung up the phone.
Then, he turned his head and looked at Josephine.
Josephine stared at him with her big eyes.
Quintin asked her, "Do you know who I am?"
Josephine shook her head.
Right now, not only had her memories disappeared, but she had also forgotten sign language, making even basic communication difficult.
Quintin continued, "My name is Quintin, and I'm your husband. Do you know what husband means?"
She shook her head again.
He patiently explained, "Husband is ... uh ..."
Suddenly, he didn't know how to explain it; let alone how to explain it in a way she could understand.
After some thought, he casually made something up. "It means we will live together forever. It's a legal relationship, like a legitimate husband and wife. We're also legal family members." Confusion flashed across Josephine's eyes. She could only digest a few keywords from his words.
Together forever and family.
Josephine smiled in response, nodding to indicate she understood and would remember what he said.
After pondering for a while, Quintin signed. "Do you understand what I'm saying?"
Josephine nodded. She found it fascinating to understand Quintin's gestures.
Seeing her reaction, Quintin felt a wave of relief wash over him. "That's great. You still remember. Do you know sign language?"
He signed. "Like this. Do you know how to do it?"
Josephine tilted her head and looked at Quintin's fingers before looking at her own fingers. She lifted her hands and attempted to make the same gestures.
Perhaps due to muscle memory, she quickly learned the simple gestures Quintin was making.
Quintin grinned at her progress.
Feeling excited and nervous, he asked, "Do you know how to sign husband?"
He felt like he was coaxing a child, yet he couldn't help but want to hear her call him her husband.
