What Separates Me and You

Chapter 354 Josephine Doesn't Recognize Him

Just as Quintin was about to make a phone call, Josephine suddenly grabbed his hand and shook it.

He abruptly turned to look at her.

She innocently gazed back at him, then pointed to the bun in the hands of a passing child before blinking her eyes cutely at him. Quintin felt a slight stir in his heart as he stared into her lively, large eyes. He tightened his grip on the phone.

"Are you hungry?" He asked, then feeling like he had asked a silly question.

Phineas had brought her here in the morning, and it was already past three in the afternoon. No doubt, she was growing hungry. Josephine nodded, her eyes fixed on the bun in the child's hand. She gulped.

Quintin silently stared at the number on his phone for a moment before finally deciding to turn his phone off.

He put his phone in his pocket and smiled. "Let's go, then. I'll treat you to something delicious."

Josephine's eyes lit up when she heard the mention of delicious food, and she vigorously nodded at him.

He found her reaction amusing and couldn't help but pinch her cheek, something he would never have dared to do before.

With that pinch, he realized her skin felt so soft.

"Let's go." Quintin held her hand and walked toward the exit of the hospital.

Josephine clung to his arm. Afraid of being left behind, she practically hung onto him.

He would occasionally glance at her sideways while gripping his phone in the pocket with his other hand. Suddenly, he didn't feel like telling Lewis this news anymore.

He was worried Lewis would come and take her back once he found out.

If he and Josephine got closer during these five days, would he be able to replace Lewis?

If she refused to go with Lewis, would Lewis let her stay?

Knowing Lewis, Quintin knew the man would go back on his word. He could figure that out even with just some common sense.

While he was lost in his thoughts, he looked up and suddenly saw Lewis walking toward them with Phineas from the nearby parking lot.

Quintin's heart skipped a beat, and he instinctively tightened his grip on Jospehine's hand. Did he find out so soon?

Lewis clearly noticed them too. He strolled leisurely with his long legs and stood before the two.

Quintin looked at him warily. "Don't tell me you changed your mind so quickly?"

The man didn't answer. His gaze lingered on Quintin's face for a few seconds before shifting to their intertwined hands, and finally, he looked at Josephine. She was also looking at him, but her gaze was unfamiliar.

It was as if she didn't recognize him.

Lewis' gaze paused on her face for a few seconds before he asked Quintin, "Why did you bring her here?"

A wave of relief washed over Quintin as he heard that. He confidently said, "Didn't you say she was sick? I brought her here for a check-up to see if there's anything wrong with her." Lewis' dark gaze was locked onto him as if trying to see through him.

For one second, Quintin felt like Lewis had seen right through him.

Fortunately, Lewis only cast him a brief glance before walking past the two of them and entering the building.

Quintin turned his head and sighed inwardly. He whispered to Josephine, "That man is a bad guy. From now on, stay away when you see him, okay?"

Josephine stared at Lewis' retreating figure and glanced at Quintin. Under his expectant gaze, she obediently nodded.

Quintin was momentarily stunned. He only wanted to test her, but she actually agreed to what he said.

He felt a slight pang of guilt in his heart.

Sensing something, he instinctively turned his head, only to see Lewis standing not far away, staring back at him with an intense gaze.

Frightened, he grabbed Josephine's hand and started running.

Lewis watched as they fled and pondered for a moment. He turned to Phineas and said, "Go check it out."

"Check what out?"

Lewis cast him a glance.

Phineas rubbed his nose. He was just a breeder and definitely not as clever as Conrad. Lewis only said three words. How did he expect Phineas to understand what he meant?

Looking at Phineas' confused expression, Lewis lifted his hand and patted him on the shoulder.

"You're better suited to raising dogs on the mountains. The human world isn't suitable for you."

Phineas' face flushed red. "I ... I got it. I'll check it out right away."

With that, he turned and ran out to dial Conrad's number.

Conrad was busy as hell now. Receiving Phineas' call only added to his annoyance. "If you have something to say, spit it out!"

"Well, Chairman Alvarez wants you to investigate something."

"What is it?"

"We ran into Quintin and Mrs. Alvarez in the hospital just now. I suppose it's about them."

Conrad fell silent at once. "I see."

After speaking, he hung up the phone directly.

Phineas continued to follow behind Lewis. The two of them arrived at the VIP ward on the sixth floor of the inpatient department.

Kiran was the only patient on this floor. After the previous attack, the security on this floor had been enhanced.

When Lewis stepped out of the elevator, the two bodyguards immediately raised their hands to stop him. "Sorry, no entry allowed here." Lewis glanced at the bodyguard who spoke and walked straight past him.

The bodyguard wanted to stop him, but Phineas kicked him away.

The other bodyguard was about to step forward, but Phineas immediately shouted, "Are you blind? He's Chairman Alvarez!"

The bodyguard paused. He carefully observed Lewis and finally recognized him. Silently, he retreated to the side and no longer dared to stop Lewis. Phineas caught up to Lewis and said indignantly, "These people don't even recognize you now. How dare they?"

Lewis smirked. "Just let them be."

Phineas was still somewhat furious. The bodyguards from the Alvarez family didn't even recognize their own boss. How useless.

Lewis arrived at the door of the ward. The bodyguards at the door recognized Lewis but still raised their hands to stop him.

"Chairman Alvarez, what brings you here?"

Lewis calmly gazed at the bodyguard who spoke. "If I'm not mistaken, you should be one of the bodyguards from the Alvarez family."

"Yes."

"So, who's inside?"

The bodyguard looked hesitant. He stuttered for a long time and couldn't make out a word.

Lewis asked, "What? You've been guarding this ward, yet you don't know who's inside?"

The bodyguard hurriedly answered, "Master Robert ordered us to guard this ward, and we're just following orders."

"Is that so?"

Lewis withdrew his gaze, pushed open the door, and walked in. The bodyguards couldn't stop him even if they wanted to, but they couldn't just let him in either.

After all, the person lying inside was not a member of the Alvarez family.

Lewis was the head of the Alvarez family. Of course, they would listen to Lewis rather than Robert.

Robert had previously instructed them not to let anyone in, especially Lewis.

However, they chose to let Lewis in.

Lewis' appearance surprised Robert, who was sitting inside.

When he saw Lewis entering, even the oranges in his hand fell. He jolted up from his seat, exclaiming, "How did you get in?"

Lewis walked slowly to the bedside, his gaze falling on Kiran's face. Then, he turned around to look at Robert.

He smiled faintly. "Father, I heard President Kiran was hospitalized, so I came to visit. I didn't expect to find you here too."

"Even though you've retired, you still care a lot about the company's employees. Not only did you personally come to visit President Kiran, but you also arranged so many bodyguards to protect him. President Kiran, you're so lucky."
