We Are

Chapter Poppy’s Blob

We had several options, one of which was returning to the people who were starting a colony.

Problem, though.

We hadn’t been mapping out where we’d been traveling, and thus wouldn’t be able to return to the others even if we wanted to unless we happened upon them by chance.

Another option was continuing to explore, which would essentially mean simply continuing to do what we’d been doing (minus the whole searching for Harley part).

We could also just settle down where we were, and call that place home base, or set about finding a different location to settle down at.

Then, there was the option of trying to get back to Earth, but option #1 (returning to the other settlers) would probably have to be completed in order to be able to return to Earth.

Neither Jewel nor I were very keen on returning to Earth, though; which begged the question of whether there were any other options that we should also consider.

Suddenly, as we were discussing what to and not to do, I spotted a boat that was slowly drifting towards the shore.

“Look!” I said to Jewel, “It’s a boat!”

Jewel peered out, and said, “Looks big enough for both of us, I’d say. Wanna paddle off in it?”

I nodded, and said, “That seems like a good idea.” and the two of us had soon set off on the boat.

We rowed, and rowed, and rowed, and rowed, and rowed, and rowed, and rowed, and rowed, and rowed, until a big wave knocked us off of the boat and sent us down into the water.

For some reason, the water was pulling us down really fast, and we weren’t able get back above water again!

Were we doomed?

Was this the end of Jewel and Benji?

It sure seemed so…

Suddenly, just when it seemed that all hope was lost, we felt ourselves falling through the air and landing upon something very squishy that cushioned our fall.

“You okay?” I quickly asked Jewel, who quickly responded, “Yup. We’re lucky that the water released us when it did though, because I don’t think that I’d have been okay if I’d been in there for even 5 more seconds!”

“Agreed.” I said, and added, “What’d we fall on?”

“WHAT???’d ya fall on?” a voice indignantly interjected, “Dontcha mean WHO’d ya fall on!!!” and we suddenly realized that we were both on top of a GIANT jellyfish of some sort!

“And, NO, I’m not a jellyfish.” the creature corrected, as if it’d been reading my thoughts, “My name is Blob, and I am a giant blob of goo that got brought to life during one of Poppy’s experiments. I have plans to rule the galaxy and whatnot, eventually, but won’t be able to until I get released from this cave.”

“Whoa!” Jewel said, in awe, “But can’t you just leave through the wat-“ but her question turned into a confused gasp as she looked up to see that there was only a hard rock ceiling above us.

When I heard her gasp, I looked up too, and asked, “Where’d the water that we dropped in on you from go?” and Blob responded, “Oh, that must be why you two are soaked. I’m not sure how you fell onto me. I figured that maybe you’d transported or something.”

“Like a portal?” Jewel asked, “Maybe the water that we were sucked down in led to a portal?”

“Perhaps.” Blob answered, “Though I was thinking of the power. You two don’t seem to have it, though; which means that either a portal or someone else transporting you here would make more sense.

Enough of that, though; you two wanna meet Poppy? She created ME, which makes her the most important person who’s ever existed! (besides me, of course).”

Jewel and I shrugged, nodded, each voiced an affirmative answer, and the two of us were soon following Blob towards wherever this Poppy person might be.

After traveling for a while, Blob announced that, “We’re almost there!” and I soon began to hear bubbling sounds off in the distance.

Before we could reach Poppy, though, we were greeted by a person named Maximon who looked like a troll straight out of a fairy tale book!

He bowed, and said, “Hello, humans. You two are the perfect people to help Blob here rule the planet that you just arrived from!”

“I thought that Blob wanted to rule the entire galaxy?” Jewel said, confusedly, to which Blob responded, “I do. But you can’t eat an entire pie in one bite! You take one bite, then another and another and another and another and another and another and another and another and another, and then the whole pie is eaten!”

“That makes sense.” Jewel responded, and we all followed Maximon to where Poppy was doing her experiments and whatnot.

“Hello!” Poppy beamed at us, “You’re just in time, because I’ve just perfected a one-way potion to the planet that you two just came from! …Well… I think it’s perfected, anyway… Can’t win if ya don’t play, right?”

Her logic was impeccable!, and Jewel, Blob, and I immediately accepted 3 little shot glasses that had a strange liquid in them; and we all said, “Cheers!” and drank…
