We Are

Chapter Empire

The three of us were immediately back on the planet, and had been transported right where the human settlement was.

Blob immediately expanded to an insane size, and said, “Hello, settlers! You are all a part of Blob’s empire! Resist, and you will regret it; but comply, and you’ll find that my minions and I will make all of your lives better by ruling over you!”

A man came up to Blob with a rake or something, and began hitting them with it. This prompted Blob to laugh uproariously, separate the man from his weapon, and dangle him upside down from about a hundred feet in the air.

“As you can see, no weapons can harm me!” Blob explained to all of the terrified settlers, one of whom shouted, “Please don’t hurt Kimble! He didn’t mean any harm!”

“I won’t hurt anyone unless they oppose my rule and cause problems. Kimble will spend some time with my minions and I, and then I will return him to you unharmed. What happens to him next will depend on him. Will he have learned his lesson, or will he want to rebel again? Freedom is only allowed for those who accept Blob’s reign!, and all others will have to be confined until they see reason.

Anyhoo!, y’all have important colonizing to get back to; and I certainly don’t want to impede the progress of my own empire!, for that would be quite silly, wouldn’t it? I’ll see y’all again soon; and, please, do behave in the meantime.”

The 4 of us left the frightened and bewildered settlers; and Kimble tried to reason with Blob, Jewel, and I as we searched for a place where Blob’s throne and whatnot would be built.

“Your two “minions” look a lot like a couple of settlers who took off on their own to explore the planet.” Kimble noted, “Now, why are you two helping this power-hungry Blob out, anyway?”

I wasn’t sure how much to say, and Blob shrugged and said that we could reveal whatever we wanted to.

“Well,” Jewel began, “we were assigned to be Blob’s minions by their creator, and we don’t want to let her down!”

“That’s right!” I answered, “Don’t worry, though. Blob’ll be a fair an just ruler. You’ll see!”

“So, just toss democracy out the door then?” Kimble asked, “Might makes right, and all that?”

“Democracy relies on might making right, too; it’s just that might is defined differently. That’s why the founders of the country that you came to this planet from were concerned about having a mere democracy, and made it both a constitutional republic AND and a representative democracy instead.” Blob explained to Kimble.

“Sure, the republic part checks the democratic part (to some degree) in the USA,” Kimble conceded, “but where’s the check in your government then? Where’s our constitution?, and when do we get to vote?”

“Constitution!” Blob chuckled, “Vote! Do you let dolphins or horses vote in your little democratic constitutional republic? Of course not! And, that’s something like what you are compared to me.

So, if more blobs are created, then they shall all have voting rights and whatnot; but, as long as I’m the only blob in town, I am the representatively democratic constitutional republic!…”

As Kimble continued to uselessly try to debate with Blob, I wondered if Jewel and I were doing the right thing by being their minions.

Sure, it would be nice if Blob were to give humans voting rights and whatnot, but they seemed powerful enough that there was no point in trying to rebel or anything.

If we proved to Blob that humans could collaborate well with them, then Blob would either give humans voting rights and whatnot or be a benevolent overlord to humanity.

Either way, Jewel and I being the best minions that we could possibly be was undoubtably the right thing to do!, and I just knew that the two of us would consistently be very dependable minions who would make Blob proud!.
