Lying motionless on the floor, Larry suddenly laughed bitterly. His vacant eyes turned red, and tears rolled down his cheeks.
Bailey glanced at him silently.
In fact, they’d been high school classmates with Larry. Although it had been many years since they’d last saw each other, she still remembered him vividly.
Larry had been one of the top students in their class and had always been praised by teachers for his bright future. Yet, he had ruined it all himself.
Bailey lamented, “Larry, it’s been years, and Sabrina is living the high life. She’s about to become Harold’s wife. And you? You’ve got nothing! You’re living in the shadows.”
Larry had thought about that many times, but there was no turning back now. He used to be a good student. In his senior year, he made two big mistakes.
One day, Sabrina had asked him to help her convince Lucille to meet her in the storage room behind the school. She’d said she wanted to talk to Lucille and make amends.
Everyone knew that the two weren’t on good terms. As the class monitor and Sabrina’s admirer, he agreed without thinking much.
But once they’d entered the storage room, someone had locked them in. Soon, the smell of gasoline had filled the air, followed by flames.
Larry had been stunned, but Lucille had stayed calm and figured a way out. They’d escaped; Lucille was the one who’d saved him. His burn scars were from that incident.
After the incident, Larry had confronted Sabrina about it. She’d insisted that she’d been in the hospital that day because she’d been sick. When he’d seen her hospital papers, he’d believed her.
As time had gone by, his infatuation with Sabrina had grown. Just before graduation, he’d done what he would’ve never have considered before–he’d kidnapped Lucille to stop her from attending a piano competition.
Luckily, Bailey had noticed that Lucille had gone missing and called the police. As a result, Larry had been imprisoned for three years on kidnapping charges.
After Lucille and Bailey left, Larry finally spoke remorsefully, “I’m sorry.”
But it was too late.
Not long after, three men in black entered Larry’s apartment. One of them glanced at him coldly and said, “Take him!”
In the CEO’s office at JM Corporation, Mack ended a phone call and reported, “Sir, Barrett has taken Larry.”

Barrett Stone was one of Spencer’s men. “Barrett said Larry’s wrists and ankles are broken,” Mack added, feeling a chill in his own limbs as he spoke.
Hearing this, Spencer paused briefly but then nodded. “Alright, I got it.”
“Should we delete the online comments about Mrs. Layton?” Mack asked.
After a moment’s thought, Spencer replied, “Delete them.”
Mack went off to carry out the orders.
On their way back to the office, Lucille and Bailey noticed that the online rumors about Star&Ciel Group had been removed.
The five college students had also posted a video apologizing and admitting that they had been paid to slander Starbright Scents.
In the car, Bailey scrolled through Twitter. She pouted and said, “These netizens are just so fickle. A while ago, they were cursing us out. Now, they’re all praising us. Fickle bunch, aren’t they?”
Let it go. It’s not important. The internet is all about free speech anyway,” Lucille said nonchalantly.
