Chapter 34
As soon as the words were out of Lucille’s mouth, she saw Spencer’s smile grow. He seemed to be very happy.
The next thing she knew, her vision darkened as Spencer pressed his lips to hers. He pulled away after a few seconds and said sexily, “That’s your reward.”
Lucille didn’t know how to respond to that. Had he rewarded her with a kiss because she said she hadn’t had feelings for Harold?
Her burning face told her just how shy she felt at the moment.
Outside the car, Bailey squealed in excitement. She even stomped her feet. “Oh, my God. My God! They’ve kissed! Kissed!”
She’d still yet to wrap her mind around everything even after Spencer and Lucille left.
Even in her wildest dreams, she never would’ve expected Lucille to win the heart of someone as rich and powerful as Spencer. This was amazing!
The Layton family had been around for at least a century. It had businesses and property all over the world, and Spencer was the head of the family.
But that wasn’t all–he also controlled the Layton family’s supply chain. Even the slightest changes he made could affect Summeria’s economy.
This meant that Bailey, as the best friend of the lady of the Layton household, could do whatever she wanted in Whiteloop City. Heck, she could do whatever she wanted in Summeria!
There was also the added bonus of Spencer and Lucille looking like a perfect match. She would support
them for life!
Because of what had happened earlier, Lucille remained deep in thought throughout the journey from Bailey’s apartment to Layton Manor.
She only returned to her senses when they drove past an ancient–looking gate. She stared at the looming manor before her, feeling rather dumbfounded.
It had occurred to her that Layton Manor would be huge, but this was ridiculously huge.
The patterns on the gate had been painstakingly carved. They looked dominating yet bold. White walls surrounded the manor, and plants crawled over them.
“Oh, no.” That was the first thing Lucille said as Spencer parked the car.
He asked, “What’s wrong?”
She turned to him, looking upset. “I
left the gifts I prepared for Grandpa and your parents in my car. It’s
still at Bailey’s place.”
Spencer had thought it was about something serious. He said, “You’re the best gift they could ever get.”
Lucille fell silent. How was she supposed to respond to that?

He reached behind her and grabbed two bags from the backseat. He handed them to her and said, “I had someone prepare these. What’s mine is yours, so it doesn’t matter who prepared the gifts.”
Lucille was warmed by this. Spencer was always ready to save her. She would’ve been too ashamed to enter the manor empty–handed. She looked at him gratefully and said, “Thanks. You’re so considerate.”
He smiled. “A verbal thank–you doesn’t seem very sincere.”
“Huh? How can I make it more sincere, then? Should I treat you to a meal?”
Spencer patiently led her on. “All you need to do is kiss me. Forget the meal–we eat together every day, anyway.”
Lucille was taken aback, but Spencer didn’t urge her. Instead, he waited patiently.
He thought he would have to wait for a long time, but it only took a few seconds for Lucille to peck his cheek lightly. She got out of the car immediately after that.
It left Spencer dazed for a second. Then, he chuckled lowly. He wasn’t too happy with how brief it had been, but at least she’d made the first move. It showed she could be trained.
