The deafening shout made Lucille frown. She felt like her heart was going to jump out of her chest. She’d known things would end up like this, which was why she hadn’t said anything in the car.

Bailey sat dazedly on the couch after screaming. She looked rather distraught as she clutched her chest and tried to calm herself down. She muttered, “Give me a moment. I need to process this.”

Lucille didn’t say anything. Bailey stared at her and said, “I’ve only been gone for a month. How’d you get into a shotgun marriage within such a short time?”

Before Lucille could say anything, Bailey continued, “I’ll let the marriage slide. What I can’t believe is that you’ve married such a bigwig!”

Lucille decided to remain silent until Bailey was done processing. The latter’s eyes widened in shock, and she asked, “Babe, do you even realize who your husband is?”

“I didn’t know it when we registered our marriage. I only investigated him after,” Lucille said obediently.

Bailey clutched her chest again and breathed deeply. Then, she said, “He’s the richest man in the world. Not only does he have money and power, but he’s also the mysterious head of the Layton family who’s never shown his face in public.

“Rumor has it that he doesn’t have any women in his life; he’s also ruthless and looks ferocious. I’ve never seen him despite growing up in Moore Manor. So how did you get together with him?”

Lucille raised an eyebrow. Spencer looked ferocious?

She said, “Rumors are just rumors.”

“Huh?” The next second, Bailey realized Lucille was standing up for Spencer. She asked, “What does he look like, then?”

“You’ve really never seen him before?” Lucille asked in return.

Bailey shook her head. “Even my grandfather has to make an appointment if he wants to see Mr. Layton, let alone me. Only a few people in Whiteloop City have seen him in person–he’s always lived in people’s imaginations.”

Lucille was lost for words. It explained why people didn’t pay much attention to who he was when they were out and about. They only saw his drop–dead gorgeous face.

She looked at Bailey and said nonchalantly, “Well, you’ll get to see him later.”

Bailey’s jaw dropped. Lucille explained, “I couldn’t describe him even if you wanted me to. You’ll know. what he looks like when you see him in person.”

“Don’t you have any photos of him?”

“I didn’t take any.”

“Fine.” Then, Bailey asked, “You said your grandmother’s the one who set you up on this blind date, right? How does she know anyone from the Layton family?”

Now, this was a question Lucille didn’t have the answer to. She thought about it for a few seconds, then

shook her head. “I didn’t ask her.”

The more Bailey thought about it, the more incredulous everything seemed. She just couldn’t wrap her mind around it.

Spencer’s car showed up outside Ozenia Residences at 6:00 pm sharp. Bailey claimed she wanted to walk Lucille downstairs, but she actually just wanted to see what Spencer looked like.

Spencer had already gotten out of the car to wait for Lucille. As soon as she appeared, he zeroed in on her. She was all he could see.

Meanwhile, Bailey was stunned by Spencer’s look. She finally understood why Lucille said she couldn’t describe him. He looked so fucking good! She didn’t think “drop–dead gorgeous” did justice to his face.

Who was the one who’d spread the rumor about Spencer looking ferocious? Who? Who had started it? She wanted to beat that person up so badly!

Bailey was frozen to the spot, mesmerized by Spencer’s almost abominably handsome face. Lucille covered her face in embarrassment when she saw Bailey gaping at Spencer dazedly.

She told Spencer awkwardly, “Sorry about this. My best friend’s seeing you for the first time, so she’s a little… Don’t mind her.”

Spencer seemed unfazed. He looked at Lucille tenderly and chuckled. “It’s fine.”

Bailey was almost drooling when she saw Spencer smile. At the same time, she couldn’t help cursing the person who’d started the rumor about him not having or wanting women in his life.

Look at how fucking gentle he was! And his smile was delectable!

More importantly, his voice sounded amazing. It was so easy on the ears and charismatic enough to suck anyone in.

Bailey snapped out of it and smiled broadly as she introduced herself. “It’s nice to meet you, Mr. Layton. My name’s Bailey Moore, and I’m Lucy’s one and only best friend. I hope we’ll get along well in the future.”

Spencer looked at her politely. “It’s nice to meet you, Ms. Moore.”

“Yes, it’s very nice. Everything’s fine and dandy. And they’ll continue to be fine and dandy as long as you and Lucy stay together forever.” Bailey was starting to spout nonsense.

“You’re the first man she’s dated, and she’s already married you. If you want to know more about her, you can contact me at any time. I know her like the back of my hand.”

Bailey didn’t even consider Spencer’s identity and status. All she knew was that he was her best friend’s newlywed husband.

“The first man she’s dated?” Spencer repeated thoughtfully.

Bailey said enthusiastically, “Yep! She was engaged to Harold Quall, that scumbag, but they’d never actually dated. That’s why you’re the fi-

He was Lucille’s first man. But before Bailey could finish, Lucille had already clamped a hand over her mouth.

She’d been listening in trepidation the whole time. Now, with her hand over Bailey’s mouth, she smiled awkwardly at Spencer and said, “Give me a second.”

He smiled and nodded. Lucille dragged Bailey aside while the latter kept making muffled protests. Lucille warned, “I’ll let you go, but you better not run your mouth.”

Bailey nodded. Lucille let her go, and she immediately breathed deeply. “Were you trying to make me suffocate, babe?”

Lucille shot her a look. It was her own fault for saying all those things.
