“Im not worth it” Lucille said. Her eyes dimmed

Spencer moved his hand from her head to back a stray lock of hair behind her ear wasn’t in any rush to respond to her words. He placed a warm hand on her cheek and gently caressed it.

The physical contact made Lucille’s hair stand on end. Her cheek tingled from his touch. He was so close to her that she could see her ref on in his eyes. It was as

if she was all he could see.

Then, Spencer said, “You’re worth it.”

He sounded confident and firm. Lucille couldn’t help widening her eyes aths wores and she clenched her fists on her blanket

Spencer reminded, “Have you forgotten what I told you last night?

She recalled what he’d said to her at the hospital. He’d told her he would protect her

and asked her to learn to rely on him

Spencer narrowed his eyes when he saw her bite her lip. She looked so fragile and unguarded that he couldn’t help swallowing. He wasn’t enough of a monster to take advantage of someone who was sick, though. Besides, he didn’t want to scare

Ultimately, Lucille followed Spencer to the living room with a heavy heart. He toe S to wait in the living room before turning to the kitchen. The kitchen was an opeN ONE so she stared at him as he bustled around.

He hummed in agreement before saying. “Luke said you had to stick to a dear diet after waking up.

She didn’t ask who ‘Luke” was. She was more surprised that someone of his status and position would personally cook something for her.

He’d been born with a silver spoon in his mouth and had been raised to be a leader She was sure he had people at his beck and call all the time. Why did he know how

to cook? i

When Spencer saw her staring at him dazedly, he explained, “I’ve been living alone since I was 18.”

Lucille got it now. He smiled and continued, “From now on, I’ll cook whatever you

want to eat.”

She didn’t know what to say to that, so she lowered her head and started eating. It was a little blander than she preferred, but the broth still smelled great. The noodles had also been cooked to perfection. This was the best chicken noodle soup she’d ever had.

The sun shone brightly outside, and its rays filtered into the room through the floor–to -ceiling windows, landing on all corners and lighting up the room.

Lucille sat at the dining table and slowly ate her food wile Spencer grabbed his laptop and started attending to his work. The scene was oddly heartwarming and cozy.

Lucille looked up from her food when she was done to see Spencer sitting across from her. He was looking at his laptop seriously. She couldn’t help staring at him.

He sensed her eyes on him and looked up. “Do you want more?”

She shook her head.

He put his laptop away and stood up to get her some water. Then, he grabbed her medication and headed back to her. Her gaze didn’t leave him as he moved around.

ke this in ten minutes.” He placed the water and medication before her, then took- the bowl away.

Lucille noticed how familiar and natural he was acting. She blinked. She looked calm on the outside despite her racing heart. He seemed right at home in her apartment even though it was only his first time there.

When Spencer sat down, she asked him earnestly, “How did you get in?”

He raised an eyebrow, looking composed as he said, “I smashed the lock and broke in.”

Lucille stiffened.
