Vampire Shadows

Chapter 41

Do we seriously have to walk?

I know Max said we only had to walk to the place where we could get a car, and it's not supposed to be far from here. But the idea of letting our horses go is really sickening, but we have to do it to avoid any attention.

We also couldn't take any of mom's cars cause the vampires may find it suspicious in case they return.

The white coven vampire empire is really far, and there's no way we can get to it through the forest as we did with the prince's castle. Riding a horse will make us look like creeps, and not to mention we'll get spotted easily.

The only option we have is to buy a car.

"Off to the old vampire empire." it sounded easy when heather said it. But in reality, it's not.

. It's bad enough that the place is hilariously far from here, and the fact that we are wanted by the vamps isn't helping.

Things would have definitely been better if we could teleport.

"That's it, we can't do this, let's just teleport there." Heather's voice echoed. Um sure she was eavesdropping on my thoughts. *bitch*

"We've already talked about this, there'll be no teleporting," Josh said lowly. He has been acting like this ever since we left my home.

"Josh, is everything alright?"

"What? Why would you ask that?"

" I don't know… you have been down and out since we left home."

"Ohhhh.." That was all he said. His face holding a look that says _he just realized that he has been acting weird.

"I'm just a bit worried about how all these things would go. I can't help it." He added, trying his best to fake a smile.

"Ohh Josh, I'm sure everything will be fine. It'll all be over before we even know it." I wasn't sure about this, and with the way things are going, it's obvious that the Prince has the upper hand in this war, all we can do is hope for the best.

"Your maids, are you sure they'll be fine?" He asked in a drained tone. There was no need to question the fact that he was worried about them. Their innocent lives are put in danger because of our mission and although I tried to help them, I still fill the guilt hitting me hard.

"Yeah, I guess so. I gave them money and asked them to leave town. I think that'll be enough to keep the vampires off their trail." I tried to sound positive. Hoping to get Josh's mind off the issue.

"Yeah, I guess that'll work. I just can't get my mind off them and everyone else who is or might get involved in this war."

"We are here guys, I'll go talk to the dude. Y'all wait out here." Max said when we got to a huge fence.

It must be where the cars are kept cause I could see a few new cars parked outside.

Our town isn't the biggest. In fact, it's a really small town, so it surprises me to find out that I have never seen or heard of this place. It's probably because I don't go out much or socialize at all. I'm sure someone like Kendra must know this place.

.

"What's wrong with you?" Heather asked with irritation ask ran to hide behind her.

We were still standing outside the fence waiting for Max, I wonder what was taking him so long.

"I'm so sorry Heather, but I need to hide," I whispered in her ear.

I just spotted one of my school mates and I think she saw me. Though the look on her face said she wasn't sure, I can't risk her seeing me and telling the whole world that I'm alive. That'll Just make tracking us easy and ruin our whole mission.

"Well I think you should cover your face, you know almost everyone in this town knows you." Irritation was still in her voice.

"You have to be more reasonable and stop acting like a kid." She muttered making me leave my hiding spot. I felt like yelling "I am a kid!!" But I choose to shut up. The coast was now clear but I still felt kinda unsafe. I kept looking around to see if there were any familiar faces there.

"Here you go," Josh said, wrapping a hanky around my face so that only my eyes were visible.

"Thank you," I said from under the handkerchief, he gave me a reassuring smile that also put a smile on my face. Though there was the smile, there was also that deep absentminded look in his eyes. He looked down and it was obvious that something was wrong with him. I wanted to ask him so badly what was wrong and if I could help. Only heaven knows how much I want the good old cheeky josh back. But then, asking will make me sound and look like a nosy and rude prick. If I remember clearly, he already said he was fine and that meant he didn't want to talk about it.

"Alright guys, our sweet ride is ready," Max said from afar, he was in a really luxurious car.

Well, that was fast. I thought it will take longer and I didn't expect him to appear in such a sleek car making him look even hotter than normal.

The windows are tinted and the car is painted black with little silver limes on the edges. Max let his window down so we'll be able to hear him.

"Are you guys going to hop in or are we just going to ogle at my baby." His words made me notice the amused and awestruck looks on the others.

Josh who has been down kind of looked cheered up already. _if I'm not mistaken of course._

Both Heather and Josh made their way to the back seat and I followed, just as I was about to get seated, Max interrupted,

"You all can't make me look like a driver you know!"

"Some one has to sit in front with me." He added, making me understand what he was talking about.

Since I was the only one who was yet to get seated, I guess I'm the one to move to the front seat.

.

I know it's no big deal, and this isn't the first time I'm seating in front. But the idea of Max being next to me makes my stomach tie knots.

We have been closer and more intimate before, like when we were riding through the forest, but then, I didn't have all my concentration because I wasn't used to riding, scared I would fall off. Plus, the fact that it just didn't feel natural riding, at least not as natural as driving.

.

The car's interiors even looked more exquisite and appealing. The dark silvered leather seats and the fancy headrest. Being from a wealthy family, this whole stuff isn't meant to thrill me, but considering the shit I've been going through, I think I have every right to act this way.

"So, how do we get to the empire? Where is it located?" I asked. I am really curious about where it's located. According to what I've heard, it's a really great and mighty empire, but then, if it's really big, or mighty, how come no human knows of its existence, or where it's located? With the way, technology is taking over and how fast things are developing, I'm quite surprised that people still don't know about the existence of vampires.

"Lol, Kara, do you think the empire is located in a place humans can find? Humans are quite smart and stuff, but we are supernatural beings, you can't compare our phenomenal powers to your little technology stuff." Heather always has to sound so sassy. She sounds like all those mean dramatic high school girls.

"Just wait and watch kara, vampire kingdoms are located in very phenomenal ways. You can't find it on any map, and no machine can track or tell that it even exists." Max said with a broad smile.

"So it's invisible?" I inquired thoughtfully.

"Just wait and watch."

"Josh, which way are we headed?" Max asked.

"West" was his short reply. He still looked out of place and for some reason, worried. His behavior is starting to bug me, but then again, who am I to ask?
