Chapter 37
“Here,” the familiar guard said, handing me a packaging bag. It's Dimitri, Nick's personal assistant.
“What's in it?“ I asked showing no interest in whatever he was holding.
“Just take it, you are wasting my time." He rumbled angrily i flinced little before stretching my arms to collect whatever it was.
“fuck it, I wonder why he chose to keep you alive.“ He muttered under his breath. It's no secret that he dislikes me and everything that has to do with me. Well, actually they all do. Especially after Kara's little stunt. Nick became more strict with them and keeps blaming them for letting their guard down. He loses his temper over little things and doesn't excuse the tiniest mistake. They somehow decided to put all the blame on me, although they can't hurt me, they find a way to make me feel horrible and uncomfortable at every chance they get.
I held the bag in place and didn't open it. Not that I wasn't curious, I was just not in the mood for any drama. I peeked slowly at Prince Nicholas, to see if he knew what was going on, but it seems like he doesn't, he is sitting at the far end of his office discussing something with his war general. He's not even looking my way. Since the room is really big, I don't think he noticed Dimitri's entrance or exit. Zaid isn't here to help me either. He went on his feeding break. If there really is something that can harm me in this bag, then I guess they picked the perfect time to hand it to me. It's not big, so I don't think they can store many dangers in it. But again, this is a f**king vampire world, even the little things can be dangerous.
Taking deep breaths, I finally decide to open it. It's a rectangular box, wrapped with white plain paper. It didn't look harmful, in fact. It didn't look like a vampire thing. It looks more like a human thing. I started ripping the white sheet off. After ripping just a few parts I could already tell what it was, but I decided to wait until I open it and make sure it was actually in there. To my surprise, it is, a brand-new f**king phone. A f**king freaking phone!! I turned it on. amazingly, It has everything! Ig, Fb, and every other social media account that I can ever dream of.
“You have finally opened it.“ Dimitri's terrifying voice ruined my joyful moment. “Why did you give this to me.“ I asked dryly, knowing clearly they wouldn't do anything to make me happy.
“You can't log in to your personal account. You have to use the account that's already logged in on the phone. Don't try to contact anyone or think about getting help. Though, If you do, it'll be useless but just don't, to avoid punishments." He said, not answering my question, making it clear that the phone isn't from him. I should have known in the first place, that he wouldn't do anything like that, the only person in the whole vampire kingdom that has shown me sympathy is Zaid. I doubt he's the one behind this, if he is, Dimitri wouldn't be the one handing it to me.
“Do you understand?“ Dimitri reminded me of his presence.
“Yeah” I murmured.
“So much for a useless human." He muttered under his breath before once again leaving. humph, ass hole. I wish I can hit his head on the wall, not that he'll get hurt, but just for self satisfaction.
“Hey, Ken." Zaid's voice snapped me out of my silly thoughts.
“Hey Zaid, you are back.“ I beamed. He's the only one that makes me smile in this place.
“What have you got there?“ he stared at the phone in my hands.
“Ohh, Dimitri got me a new phone. I don't know why though, he didn't mention.“
“I don't think it's from him. Dimitri won't give you that. He must have been sent to do so.“ “Sent? By who?“ “Who can tell Dimitri what to do?“ Who, can?
“Nicholas?“ I said to myself. Zaid heard it though, he gave me a _right guess_ nod, making it clear. Why would Nick send me a phone? And why is he sitting across the room, acting as if he isn't aware of what's going on? I remember telling him that I want my phone, so I can scroll through IG. I never thought he would consider getting me a new one or even giving the old one back. Hell, I didn't think he'd even remember our conversation.
“So, are you going to turn it on or something? I also want to see” Zaid wrangled, making me smile at his behavior.
“Alright, let's check what's going on in human world,” I said, using my hands to drag him closer to my cage. We've been watching reels for hours now. I checked what my friends have been up to, and what they've been posting, it kind of surprised that every post was related to us. Me, kara, and mom's disappearance. It's even on news channels, BUSINESS WOMAN AND INFLUENCER, AMBER COVEY MYSTERIOUSLY MISSING. Every other headline is related to that. None mentioned mom's death. Didn't they find her body in the living room? Is the media hiding that info? But ehy? Or, does this have anything to do with the vampires?
Maybe they got rid of her body in order to clear their tracks.
“I'm sorry about your mom Ken." Zaid said. He put his hands on my shoulder, trying to console me. It's nice, but seriously, it's not helping, especially because he's one of them.
“I swear I had nothing to do with her death. I didn't even know that they were supposed to kill her. I was just after you and your sister, and a stupid promotion.“ He said, guilt in his eyes. Well, at least he got the promotion even though I'm sure being my personal guard wasn't what he had in mind.
“It's okay. I don't blame you” I managed to say. Nevertheless, he was still looking sad.
“Hey, what's it with the long face? On the bright side, you got your promotion, even though it isn't what you expected.“
“It's the best promotion I could ever ask for.“ He said, resting his head on my forehead. Although the cage was an obstruction, it still felt comforting. It's funny how Zaid and I got along so quickly. I've had a crush on him since we first met, he's so attractive, and I couldn't help it. I've consistently hoped that one day he'll care about me too, but I never thought it would happen this fast. I know he doesn't actually like me, but the fact that he keeps me company and doesn't treat me like a communicable disease is heart warming. The feeling of eyes on me made me break away from Zaid. Yhup, Ardelean Nicholas Lazarus, in all his glory was glaring at us. Mehn, he looked scarier than normal.
“Heyyy, your highness..." I trailed awkwardly. He didn't look like he was in the mood to be called Nick, so I just decided to stick with what everyone else calls him.
“Your Highness,” Zaid said. I could see fear in his eyes. I don't blame him tho, he's supposed to be my personal guard and not a shoulder for me to cry on or a friend. The demon prince didn't say a word his eyes darting between me and Zaid. After finally deciding what to do, he stretched his hands to open my cage.
