Chapter 41. Revelations

Jack

“Thank you again for taking us in.” I said to Alpha Maxwell.

He had been the one that Bertha had asked for help and I couldn’t have been more thankful for that. My father and him had been friends ever since they could shift, but since I had to take over my father’s pack, I never took the time to keep up the friendly relationships to other packs. My heart had been broken by losing my parents and it had taken up all my time to keep the pack running properly.

But I hated that I was taking up space in this packhouse, as I didn’t want to bother anyone with my problems, so I continuously excused myself for it.

“Anything for the son of my late best friend. Besides, you owe me one, when you get your pack back.” He smiled gently and I nodded, not knowing how I was supposed to do that. “How are you feeling?” He then asked me and I had to think about an answer.

Over a week ago, my pack had been torn away from me, I had been tortured, my mate hadn’t dared to say a single word because of her trauma, Dennis had run away from the barn and was still alive and I had no clue as to how I was going to get everything back in order. I have failed my title, failed my Luna and failed my pack!

“Like I have been gutted.” I replied to his question.

“I can understand that, but you have to be strong for your mate.” He said and I looked up to him. “I had almost had to face something similar when my pack was attacked by those hunters, but I had to stay strong and put my pride aside, otherwise I would have lost my pack and Luna as well. But in that moment of fear, I had decided to fuse my pack with that of the tigers and now we are one happy flourishing pack, able to withstand any attack.” He continued and rubbed himself behind his ears.

The leopard inside him made him constantly aware of any hair that was out of place, his vain character was working endlessly to keep his body in tip top shape. He and his people were something else entirely, as they were so much different than us rough bears, but I had no home left to go to, so I had no choice than to follow Maxwell to his pack. So, now I am here with Doreen, Vic, Erol and Bertha.

Vic, Erol and Bertha had left the pack all together as well, as they didn’t want to stay with Dennis as their Alpha either. Besides, Dennis would have probably caught on to Bertha now too, so even if she had decided to stay, she would have been captured. And Vic? Well she is my twin sister, everywhere I go, she goes as well. She had said.

I was happy at first that I hadn’t been here all by myself, but knowing that Bertha and Erol had to leave their restaurant and for Vic to leave her motel behind, had been eating at me too. All our lives had been wracked, all by one person!

But I couldn’t do what Alpha Maxwell had done, there was no pack that I could have merged with. Us bears aren’t really compatible with other shifters and I have to admit that we are rather reluctant in asking for help at all.

I was in my own thoughts until I heard a knock. Maxwell had let the person come in and I saw a beautiful woman, covered in silk, enter the room. “Ahh, my precious, ferocious tigress!” Maxwell chimed and reached for her when she was close to him. “I needed you here like an hour ago already, Misty.” He said to her but she didn’t respond to that. They just purred lovingly towards each other and it made me feel unwanted in this room. I stood up and wanted to walk away but Maxwell interrupted me.

“Where are you going? I wasn’t done talking yet.” He said and I turned around. Misty had straddled her mate and was unbuttoning his shirt while he continued to talk to me. It was a weird experience that I had to talk back while she was having fun with him, but I guess that it’s just part of their nature. “Have you spoken to your mate about her original roots already?” He asked and then kissed his mate.

I had spoken to him about my conversations with the witch, as I had to explain what had happened to Doreen, once everything in the barn had been calmed down. “No, I haven’t yet, she won’t listen to me.” I said as I looked away from the sexual sight in front of me.

“Oh, but she does. She just decided to not want to talk, as she is ashamed of what she has done.” My head snapped up in surprise to hear Misty suddenly speak and say those words.

I saw her body bounce up and down as Maxwell had taken control of her hips and was thrusting his cock inside of her. They both shamelessly panted heavy breaths, but in the meanwhile continued to talk to me. I had gotten a little aroused from seeing them fucking their brains out, but this was not the time for that!

“What do you mean, she is ashamed? She has saved me, I should be ashamed for not being able to keep her safe!” I shouted, no longer being distracted by their movements.

Misty stood up from her husband’s cock and softly spoke to him that he had to wait for a moment. Then she draped her silk dress around her body and walked over to me. She stood in front of me and without any warning she slapped me across the face!

My eyes grew wide and I looked confused towards her.

“You’re an Alpha and as such, you should never be ashamed from your own decisions! You just made a mistake and now you get to act upon it! Get your mind straight and fix this!” She shouted and I just looked stunned towards her angry face. “Besides, you should be proud to have such a strong mate! Because as far as Maxwell has explained to me, with proper training and guidance she could become the strongest bear in existence! Don’t let her fear herself, be the Alpha you should be and guide her!” She yelled to me and walked back to her mate.

Maxwell showed me a lopsided grin and chuckled. “Hmm.. you said it better than I just did.” He purred towards his mate and continued to ravish her.

I thought over the words that she had said, and even though I hated the fact that a woman had to slap me out of my misery, she had been right. I walked over towards the door as the two felines continued their efforts, making them unaware of me leaving Maxwell’s office.

I’m going to rescue Doreen now from her nightmares!

Doreen

“No! I don’t want this!” I shouted, trying to stop myself from killing those hunters. But my claws just kept on slicing and swiping towards everyone that came near me. Blood squirted out of their bodies and covered me over and over again with those red stains.

Whatever I did, every time I closed my eyes I went back to that moment where I had gone berserk and fury had taken over my body. And every time this happened, my mind forced me to watch the complete episode, without any possibility of getting out of it! And the worst part of it was, that I knew what I felt when it had happened! I felt disgusted of myself because during my fury I had enjoyed killing those men!

I was literally getting sick after each moment I had woken up when the nightmare was over, so I had decided to just sleep on a blanket on the bathroom floor, as that way I could throw up whatever there was left in my empty stomach and be close to the toilet.

And it didn’t matter how many times I had taken a shower or a bath, I just kept rubbing my body with soap and washed my hair with shampoo, but it still felt as if I was covered in decaying flesh.

The ghost had been right all along, I should have never taken the necklace off! It had protected me from going into such a state and I don’t want to get back to that again! During some of the nightmare-episodes she had come to me, standing in the corner of the barn, trying to soothe my emotions to help me through every moment. Not that it truly helped, but it was comforting me that I wasn’t alone during those dreadful moments.

Right now, the episode was almost over, I had almost reached the moment where I was waiting to see Jack’s worried face. But suddenly, I felt my body move, my real body, and I snapped out of the nightmare before it had ended! I felt relieved to not have to face Jack’s worried eyes again, but when I opened my own eyes they were still there…

Jack was looking at me with a sad face, just like that moment when I had woken up from me going haywire.

I quickly looked around me, afraid of seeing more dead bodies, afraid that I had killed more people in real life, but all I saw was a mess of clothes and blankets, and finally the bed that I hadn’t slept in for days already.

Jack sat himself at the head of the bed and put me on his lap, he nearly crushed my body with his own but it didn’t hurt me, it only relaxed my skin as I felt his heat calm me down.

“Just breathe, love.” He calmly said and I did as he said.

He had been in this room several times already, but I hadn’t been able to talk to him, as I was afraid that I would say something wrong. I felt fragile as I didn’t want to get angry and become a murdering psychopath again! So he just made sure I was comfortable and left again. I don’t know where he had spent his days, but I guess he just didn’t know what to do about my state.

Not that it was his fault that I didn’t get better, I mean, even Vic and Bertha had come in here plenty of times, but I didn’t speak to them either.

“So, it has been a week now and I just wanted to let you know that I’m here for you. I’m so proud of you that you came into the barn and saved my ass, even though I hate the fact that you had to go through your… feelings… like that.” He said and just listened to my heartbeat going faster.

I was angry that he said that he was proud of me! Proud of what? For causing a massacre? For killing all those men without a single thought?

“Just breathe, love.” He calmly said again, and once more I listened to what he commanded me to do. “You shouldn’t be ashamed of what you have done. You didn’t know what would happen, as I never explained to you about it.” He continued and I got curious. Does he know more about my rage?

“I thought I had more time to explain to you about your heritage, but ever since Dennis had tricked me like this, I realised that I should have done that earlier. I’m sorry for that.”

I listened to what he told me, but I was still angry towards him! He shouldn’t have kept any secrets towards me! I’m his mate, his Luna! I wanted to shout, but I couldn’t. I was too much torn by what I had caused.

“Prior to the attack, I have been talking to a woman, a witch in fact.” He continued and I looked up to him in surprise. Sure… a witch. Well, what the heck, shifters are real, I am a supernatural, I had gone berserk, so why couldn’t a witch exist either? I frowned at Jack, but he continued his talking with a serious face.

“She told me that she is one of the witches that has made the necklace that you are wearing now. It has been cast with a spell, to keep your abilities bound within you as long as you keep it close to your heart.” He said, stating the obvious. “We already figured that out on our own basically, but what we didn’t know, what I couldn’t comprehend, is why those abilities had to be bound until I saw what you did.” He stopped there and looked down at my face.

He still held me tight, but checked to make sure that I hadn’t fallen asleep.

“Your mother had asked for the witches help, to protect you, because you are carrying the genes of an Alpha. But not just any Alpha, you are a descendant from our once beloved King and Queen. And you are not only very strong, but your genes are very rare as well. We had thought it to be extinct, because these genes only get to be passed on through the female line. Because, Doreen, love, you could perhaps be the last female alive that can shift into a bear.”
