Chapter 23 "Don't Blame Luna, Okay?"
Brodie came back very early that night.
Steve had some news for him and told him over the phone, "She already arrived. But Jessica was sent away, so she can't stop crying."
Brodie rushed home nonstop.
The little girl sat on the sofa in the living room with her legs crossed. She wore her hair in a tall ponytail. Her face was chubby. She was in a white dress. She had fair skin and looked amazingly cute. The little girl saw Brodie.
She blinked her watery eyes and asked, "Are you Dad?"
Brodie was stunned. Her straightforwardness was totally out of expectation. He said in a gentle voice, squatting down to look at her eyes, "How do you know?"
Cindy stretched out her fair and tender hand and touched Brodie's head. "Wow, you're much more handsome than the photos Luna hid. Of course, I know you're my father!"
After saying that, she pouted and said, "Well, I know that you're not good to Luna. You made her raise me alone. She is very pitiful abroad. She has many jobs at one time. To support me, granny Jessica always asks Luna for money. You don't even care about me and Luna!"
The baby voice was adorable. Although there was slight accusation, the soft tone melted his heart.
Brodie wanted to maintain some pride in front of his daughter, though for the sake of not losing face, he could only apologize and say, "I'm sorry."
He was sorry.
When Luna told him before, he should have believed that she was really the daughter of him and Luna!
It was because he was overwhelmingly jealous. He was jealous that Luna had married someone else. He was afraid that Luna had broken up with him because of another man and had a child with that man. He didn't have the courage to face that.
So, he subconsciously ignored the girl that Luna talked about.
However, when this girl did come to him, he was very sure that she was a child of him and Luna. They were definitely biologically related!
Brodie was simmering with excitement for the presence of this little girl. This was his own flesh and blood.
When he thought about this, he seemed to be somewhat heady.
Cindy did not know what Brodie was thinking. She was just a little unhappy that this unfamiliar father who appeared suddenly was neglecting her again.
She wondered if she was not cute enough, or not interesting enough.
Cindy frowned and said, "Why don't you talk to me more? You're very boring."
This was the first time Brodie had been totally at a loss for words. He could only say, "You can say anything you want to me, okay?"
"Oh. Then I want to see Luna. Luna said that she wanted to go back here, but she hasn't shown up yet! I'm really angry. Every time granny Jessica called her, her phone was never on! Of course, I know that there's a time difference between Los Angeles and here, and she would turn off the phone when she sleeps. But didn't she miss me? Why didn't she call me?"
Her words melted Brodie's heart, but at the same time, there seemed to be countless insects gnawing at it. He felt sad, warm and painful, almost suffocating him in the next second. "Your mom might be too busy to call you. She knows that you're not in good health, so she must be working hard to earn more money. I know that you're the most adorable girl, so don't blame Luna, okay?"☐☐☐☐☐☐
