Unlawful Affair With Asher Williams

Chapter 7

Adelie POV

I stare at him for a few seconds as I feel my heart thump heavily against my ribcage like it'll force its way out anytime soon, and I gulp down the sudden lump that forms in my throat as many questions come running through my mind. Did he see Raymond drop me off? Did he see us kiss? What is he thinking right now? For the first time, I wish I can read minds so I'll know what's going on in his.

Finally pulling myself together, I force myself to move my legs which are already stiff and glued to the spot. Moving close to him, I feel my legs drawing me back, my soul feels like it's going to leave my body anytime soon. I have never been so nervous or terrified rather, all my life.

"Asher... Wh... What are you doing outside at this time of the night? Are you just coming back home now?" I ask him nervously and gulp down nothing, but he only stares at me blankly, and it's scary.

"Where are you coming from?" His voice sounds cold and scary, and I gulp down nothing as it sends chills down my spine.

"Me? We... Well, I am coming from work," I tried not to stutter, but not when he's giving me that cold look.

"Work? What says by the time?" He asks, and I foolishly glance at my wristwatch as if I don't know that it's already late in the evening.

"What happened to your dress? Why are you wearing something else?" He asks without allowing me to answer the first question he asked me, and I gulp down another lump that forms in my throat.

"Th... This? Actually, I went on a date with my boss. Like he has a dinner date with one of the clients, and I had to go with him," I lie to him, and he scoffs as he finally stands up to his feet.

"A dinner date with a client..." He repeats as the corner of his lips tugs up in a smirk, which only lasts for two seconds and disappears immediately, replaced with a deep and scary frown. "Ye... Yes..." I stutter, stepping away from him.

"Why didn't you answer my calls?" He asks coldly, and that is when realization dawn on me that I put my phone on silent when I arrived at the restaurant.

"Oh, about that... I had to put my phone on silent so it won't disturb the meeting," I reply to him, trying to sound as convincing as I can, but for fuck's sake, Asher is not as stupid as I think he must be. I'm sure he can see that I'm lying to him now.

"What about your car? Why did the driver bring it home instead of you?" He further asks like a policeman interrogating a crime suspect.

"Oh, that? We had to go in my boss's car," I reply to him, and he slowly nods his head.

"And..." He pauses and scoffs, and I need no one to tell me that things are about to go bad right now.

"Asher, can I go inside and get some rest? I feel so tired now," I groan, pretending to be tired. It's not that I'm not tired, but not too tired to not being able to talk with him, I just want to get away from him. He's scaring the guts out of me, and I'm going to pass out soon if I don't get away from him.

"Sure," He shrugs, and I narrow my eyes as I snap my head to look at him, shocked. The Asher I know would not allow me to go just like that, and it doesn't seem to me like he's convinced. What's he up to now?

"Huh?" I blink my eyes a couple of times to be sure I heard him right, and he shrugs as he rolls his eyes.

With his hands in his pockets, he turns and walks inside the gate, leaving me outside. Does this mean that Asher has changed? That's the happiest thing in my life if he has really changed from being an overprotective and possessive brother. Releasing the breath I have been holding unknowingly, I drag my feet into the compound, but I stop on my track when I look in the parking lot and don't find my parent's cars there.

"Where are they?" I ask myself, but quickly remember that they are away. They told me a few days ago that they would be traveling today, I guess they must've forgotten about it which was why they failed to mention it before I left for the office earlier today.

"Wait! I'm going to stay alone in the house with Asher for some days?" My hands quickly fly to cover my mouth as my eyes slowly widen in shock. I'm doomed! Asher is going to mess me up before my parents get back, and nobody will save me from him. It's not that my parent's presence stopped him before, but now he will feel free to do whatever he likes with me.

Taking a deep breath, I close my eyes contemplating whether to turn back from here and save myself from that hell, or go inside and face whatever I'm offered there.

After a few seconds of standing in the same spot, I finally summon the courage and walk toward the entrance door. I hold the doorknob and twist it open before I push it open nervously. Looking around the living room without getting a glimpse of Asher, I heave a sigh of relief, concluding that he must be in his room.

I walk hurriedly over to the grand staircase and climb it as fast as my legs can carry me. Walking down the hallway minutes later after I remove my shoes so he won't know that here, I finally stop in front of my room, and slowly twist the knob, making sure that it doesn't make any noise. I finally push the door open and walk inside, closing it behind me and locking it tightly afterward.

"You must be running away from me, I guess," Hearing the voice of my nightmare behind me, I freeze on the spot.

Slowly, I turn around to find Asher sitting on my bed with his legs crossed. I think I'm doomed now...
