Chapter 47
Adelie POV
"What exactly happened to me, Asher? Why did you take me to the hospital?" I ask him when we are having breakfast together in the dining room, causing him to raise his gaze to look at me.
"You came back late from work, shivering, and suddenly passed out," He explains to me, and I slowly nod my head, even though I'm feeling a bit difficult to believe this. At least if that happened, I should've been able to remember something, right?
"But... I can't remember that happening to me," I further say to him, and he shrugs.
"I don't know why. Should you be worried about that now? The doctor already said that you'll be fine if you take your medication the way he prescribed," He utters casually, and I slowly nod my head. I was discharged from the hospital yesterday afternoon, and Asher has been strangely nice to me since then. He hasn't tried to flirt with me, which is already alarming. Or has he changed?
"He can never change, Adelie. Just snap out of it," My subconscious mind reminds me, and I sigh silently.
Silence creeps in as he watches me eat slowly, not touching the food in front of him.
"Thank you," I mutter, not looking at him.
"For?" He inquires.
"For taking care of me," I reply to him in a low tone that's almost impossible for him to hear me, but he still did anyway.
"You are my woman, so it's fine," His reply sends chills down my spine, and I stop eating abruptly. I feel my heart frozen for seconds, and when it finally starts pumping again, it's racing fast this time. Although the atmosphere is in perfect condition, I suddenly feel my body radiating heat. Slowly, I raise my gaze to find him staring at me with that usual smirk dancing at the corner of his lips.
"Hmm..." I nod my head as I clear my throat.
"So, what do you plan to do today? I already told your boss to give you some days off work, so you can focus on getting better. I also told my manager to take care of the company on my behalf, while I stay at home to take care of you," He utters, and my eyes slowly widen in shock.
"You didn't have to," I almost stutter nervously, but I manage to hold my balance. I didn't ask him to do that for me for goodness sake. Does he think that I'm comfortable staying with him alone in the house? "You need the rest," He shrugs.
"I don't really need it, Asher. I'm perfectly fine now, and I can handle work..."
"Is it about work, or do you just miss him?" He suddenly slams his hands on the desk and scoffs.
"Asher..."
"I am trying hard to take care of you here because you are sick, and all you can think of is seeing that bastard? If he had not left you to go home by yourself, this wouldn't have happened to you!" He yells at me angrily, and I flinch fearfully. "You are scaring me, Asher," I stutter nervously, and gulp down nothing.
"You know what? Just fucking do whatever you want to. Go ahead and see him if you want to," He snaps at me before he stands up and heads to the living room. Although I have seen him angry before, but he has never lashed out at me like this. What the hell happened to him? Is he mentally stressed?
Pushing all the thoughts to the back of my mind, I continue to eat my food, and I finally leave for my room once I'm done eating.
I meet my phone ringing as soon as I walk inside the room, and I quickly pick it up, before I swipe the answer button.
"Hey, babe. Good morning," Raymond's voice sounds from the other end, and I feel my heart fluttering at the sound of it. "Good morning," I smile sheepishly as I throw myself on the bed, staring up at the ceiling.
"Did you sleep well? How is your health now?" He inquires.
"I'm much better now," I reply to him, and I hear him hum.
"Asher said that he asked for leave for me. I told him that he didn't have to..."
"You need it, babe. You are not fine yet," He cuts me off, and I sigh briefly.
"Hmm. How about your mom's health? What about Rhea? I haven't heard from her in a while now," I ask about them. I haven't been able to speak with Rhea since she started working as a police officer. I know how tight their schedule is always, so I understand.
"Mom is fine. She should be discharged today or first thing tomorrow morning. Rhea has been busy with work lately, and I'm hoping we could schedule a time in the future to have lunch together," He explains to me, and I nod my head as if he
can see me.
"I will come over to see you after I leave the office. I have an appointment at the office in thirty minutes, and I don't think I can see you before then. I'm sorry, baby," He whines, and I giggle loudly as if someone is tickling me. "It's fine, I understand," I reply to him.
"Thanks, babe. Let's talk later, please. I love you," He says to me.
"I love you too," I reply to him before the call hangs.
I release a deep breath as I sit up on the bed, and drag myself into the bathroom afterward. Maybe having a long and relaxing bath will make me feel better. Well, I make sure that I lock my door before I went into the bathroom. I don't want to come back and find Asher in my room. He is crazier than that.
'Is that how much you miss that bastard?' recalling his words as I soak myself underneath the soapy water that fills the bathtub, I sigh briefly. I have never seen Asher like that, and it's crazy how he was so angry earlier.

"Did someone get him angry? Is he mentally stressed? No... Is he mad at me because he can't go to the office?" I keep muttering to myself, but none of my thinking seems to make any sense.
After spending almost forever in the bathroom, I finally head back to my room and take my time to get dressed, before I head downstairs to watch a movie in the living room. It'll be so boring to stay in my room all day.
Descending the staircase a few minutes later, I stop on my track when I find Asher sitting in the same spot with his legs crossed, as he stares into space. He seems to be lost in thoughts, but what the hell is he thinking about? I have never seen him like this.
"If you're not coming down, then go back to your room and rest. The doctor said you need it," He says, and I flinch. My shoes didn't make noise while I was coming down, so how did he know that I am here?
"I'm fine now," I finally proceed toward the living room, and I slump on one of the couches once I step in.
"Are you ok, Asher? You don't look fine," It has been years since I last asked him that question ever since he started acting up, but I feel the necessity to ask him now because I'm not understanding what is wrong with my brother. "Yes, I'm fine," He tilts his head to look at me and shrugs.
"Why?" He further asks, his gaze piercing at me like he wants to see through me, and I feel my heartbeat stops for seconds. His eyes look a bit scary and charming at the same time, and even if I want to look away, I still find myself staring and getting lost in them.
"Nothing. I just asked," I reply to him nervously, and he rolls his eyes as he turns his face away.
"Uhm... Do you want to play video games? The loser will buy lunch for the winner," I don't know what suddenly came over me and I blurt out before I can control myself. When the hell did we get so close that I want to play video games with him? I must've lost my mind.
"I'm not interested. Those games are for kids," He utters as he stands up and walks away, not sparing me another glance. Wait a minute! Did he just say that?
"Are you kidding me? Adults play video games too," I yell after him as I watch him climb the staircase, but he didn't even stop to look at me. I think I'm going to die of boredom today...
