Unknown Magic (3)

Chapter 18

We were in luck as the dragons tore through the sky faster than I expected with the air becoming much denser and trees now everywhere I was unsure to where we would land but not Emily apparently. She as confident enough to know where the opening was for the dragons. Least she made herself look confident.

I allowed warm air to caress my cheek and somehow found myself nestling into Wolfs back as already his sweat from the heat stuck to me. For some reason I did not care.

“There!” Emily screamed, Wolf and I shifted our focus to the dragon ahead and saw her pointing at a small opening patch in the trees. I squinted and realized a few more opening surrounded the area. Causing my mind to think, either they were meant for us or they always been there. I guess we will find out once we land.

Our dragons descended slowly and touched the ground with the trees of the jungle bending to the wind. They dug there nail into the jungle floor. The bat wings did their fine sweep and a blow and slowly fluttered up encasing us into a shell. They retracted inwards finally settling down. I gazed up at my surroundings and saw lush green with crickets to soft wind that sounded like rushing water, surrounded my ears.

I slid down the dragon and began stepping through the thick forest, with Damon and Emily settling and now dismounting causing me to look the other direction to where Thuse as well seemed more than eager to get off his dragon. I retracted my thoughts and had Wolf bring me back to reality by taking my hand and guiding me to where everyone was now meeting up, with the ground already making sounds form the mush under our feet.

I fixed myself as my hair splayed everywhere especially from flying in the sky. Combing through my strands, I noticed Emily take a stance beside me with Damon next to her. Wolf squeezed my hand and we started forward towards what looked like a entryway of tall trees rising like towers out of the ground.

Passing by it Thuse found himself in front of the group and we now were surrounded by another world. As if it just came out of existence once we passed those gateway trees. What stood before me was a village of huts stacked on what looked like a on top of one another, with bridges of that swayed to firm planks. A treehouse fortress in itself.

Junior and Alice would love to play in a setting like this.

Thuse continued forward while I gawked around us watching people upon people do their own activities while walking through the jungle air transporting to one section and the other. We continued walking through the village or kingdom, I am not sure what to call it and heads started to focus on us. Seeing these new foreign visitors.

We passed by a few large trees same size as the one of the houses and a different set of homes appeared before us. It was if they stacked wooden crated onto one another latching them to tree to hold on. Thuse slowed down and waved his hand to us to follow suit. We did and watched two people come out of this swirl of huts on a tree and made their way towards us.

The woman was barefoot and wearing a corset with off the shoulders deep green dress. It was above her knees and long flowy in the back. Her light brunette hair tied into a braid that reached over her shoulder to her hip. Complimenting her dark olive skin tone. I realized a moment later she is the queen as a braided root crown with hidden gems sat upon her head.

Her husband beside her with darker skin, wore dirt brown long sleeves shirt fitted to her body with a open v-neck and what seemed like jeans or black pants. He too was also barefoot. His crown had jagged stick teeth, but looked soft because it was bark with also green jewels.

They looked like gods similar to the Aer Kingdom. Yet down to earth.

“It is about time you arrived” the king spoke, his voice reminded me of jungle cat roaring.

“Yes, we apologize for that” Emily suddenly perked in, she looked rather eager yet content to herself. “We ran into a some problems, as much to the delay, thank you elf friends for that.”

They blinked but did not proceed further. The air was quiet yet everyone still moved around amongst themselves. The queen lightly turned her head and another person popped out bowing to his queen.

“Show them the body” she ordered and indicated for us to follow the sacred or awkward servant.

Following him down a foot path with only dead earth crunching against our shoes, to their dirty feet. We walked around a wall of ivy and I was the only one who stopped causing Damon to smack into me.

“Sorry” I quickly whispered. He was about to reply but he looked up and went quiet seeing the reason why I stopped in the first place.

Only a few feet away on a now cold campfire with charred looking like hard rock. A woman’s body impaled in the stomach on a spear facing up. It was if she surrendered and her body fell onto the sharp spear. Emily was the one to walk towards the body and almost touched the victims face. I feel it was the same drawn connection she felt with the other bodies

“Whoever if doing this, we need to stop them now” she whispered.

Dread instantly surrounded me, she was right, this was some kind a twist sick joke that this person was doing to us. How many more victims would there be till I was able to figure out the bloody riddle or such. I was soon ready on analyzing and figuring out things to when I stopped myself and felt another chill.

My vision.

A jungle, a woman who has been impaled, whispering, ’help me.’ A soft gasp came from my lips. This was my vision, but how was I suppose to know who it was or when. This actually didn’t make sense. Before I had time to think, finding myself walking towards the body. Thuse came up to my handing a piece of paper. I looked down onto it confused.

“It came with the body” he says answering my unspoken question, “do you know what it means?”

I take the crippled paper feeling its softness against my skin from the air that surrounded us and my fingertips make it feel like silk. I begin to read it.

'Nothing will be complete

You are part of something grand

Unless you do not join

Everything will wither

Make yourself with them

Earth, Air, Fire, Water

You belong to keep a balance’

Address to anyone specifically?” I asked raising my eyes to Thuse who was staring at me intently.

“Look at the top corner.”

I did and saw small letter that spelled out my name. It was addressed to me, yet it means nothing. I take a breath and drop my hand to the side while still holding onto it.

I look to the impaled body. “she been impaled…” next words are from me yet I don’t know where they came from. “She is to surrender.”
