Chapter 9
I walked fast as I could, I started walking down under some archways crossing every path trying to see if I could find Emily. Soon I gave up as I saw she was no where to be found. So I headed to the dining hall for lunch.
There I found her sitting at the table with Damon, they were both looking at a sheet of paper. I quickly headed over to them ignoring the lunch line of students gathering their food. I joined them but Damon quickly rose and waved at me but I lingered by Emily side reassuring her for some reason. Damon then left.
“Bye Asema, I will see you later Emily” his words, rolling out of his mouth too smoothly then left.
“Did you guys eat?” I asked noticing that there was no food on the tables.
“No…not yet” she rose and gathered her food leaving me to stare at the letter she held. I was becoming concerned.
She returned and slumpy came back.
“What’s wrong?”
She looked as if she may cry, “one of siblings is missing,” I could hear the tears she was holding back. She lifted the paper and scanned over it again but slowly gave it to me.
I looked down at it.
Our dearest Emily
We have received news that Janelle has been announced missing. We have checked with her husband and children, checking where she may have been last. All our guards have been searching as well as our personal warriors. Please if you have any information tell us as we know of her type of behaviour that is not unknown. As well, we informed our kingdom to tell the residents to be on the lookout when going about their daily business. We wrote to be aware.
Sincerely Father and Mother, King and Queen of Equitem Draco.
I paused looking at the letter.
“Asema just talk about something, to help me keep distracted,” Emily pleaded.
I bit my lip and then thought of something. “So how was your morning?”
Smiling, “good, I went for a morning stroll with Damon, the air is definitely a warming fall.”
I nodded, with a sigh of relied on that subject, so she was not looking for me. Meaning she wasn’t worried.
“So, what are your thoughts on Wolf?” I treaded carefully.
She shrugged, “I guess he is cool and interesting though, I have only known him from a distance.”
I hummed thinking, should I tell her? Or keep it under wraps?
“Why are you curious?” she asked but felt she was wary.
I went with my gut.
“Wolf and I kissed” then waited for her reaction.
Emily looked surprised closer shocked, but also looked frozen, soon I realized my cheeks began turning red from embarrassment as I felt the warmth settling in. She did sit there and stare. Finally, after a minute the awkward silence though felt longer, she spoke.
“You guys kissed…what was it like?” she whispered.
I sucked in my lip and bit inside of my cheek, how I suppose to tell her the lighting feeling and the shock wave that happened.
“First off the kiss was good, quite nice actually, though moment after shock wave went through our lips. It was like an electrical wave bursting out from us.” I said now feeling stupid as it sounded weird.
Soon I wondered if I was right in the head.
“Wait,” Emily started then focused on me and gave me a confused look, “You are tell me that there was an explosion from your guys lips?” Emily said making it send reasonable somehow.
“Yes…”
“Hmmm” she hummed.
“Also, something else,” I started and but my vision blocked out again.
Though the scene didn’t change as Emily was before me sitting in front of me looked like she was thinking. Then doors opened and my gaze wen to the figure who brought a cold dark feeling up my spine, it was Kieran. He got his lunch and sat down with us, but avoided eye contact with Emily as she did with him. Later I noticed Emily went completely rigid allowing the atmosphere to tense. The surroundings around us change and seemed I was back in the present. Emily was staring at me.
“Asema, what just happened? Your eyes went completely white.” Emily seemed to be freaked out but calmed.
“Uh what?” I was unsure what was happening.
“Do I need to take you to the hospital wing?” she urged already getting halfway up.
“No, it’s okay, I feel fine” I replied making sure I was reassuring her.
After a moment she nodded and sat comfortably back in her chair.
“The other thing is I saw something like creatures attacking and someone grabbing me, taking me away to who knows where, like it was the future of some sort.” I said and already sounded confused myself.
“Asema, I think, don’t quote me, but I think. You may have had a premonition, or in simple terms a vision” she stated.
I opened my mouth to say something but she held up her hand to stop me, “Except it is impossible to have premonitions, especially with us Immortals” she finished, and gestured me to speak now.
“What do you mean?”
She gave me a dumbfound face, I stared at her she now had a thinking face, was she just going to leave me hanging here?
She kept thinking, till I heard the dining doors opened, and a familiar cool feeling slid down my spine. I peered over my shoulder to see if it was Wolf. Nope it was Kieran, that gave me Déjà vu. Somehow, I thought, that so called premonition I have may have been there to warn me of him.
I turned gazing over to Emily and see she too saw Kieran as he now came to sit down with us at the table.
“Good afternoon little sister” Kieran spoke and smirked but not a friendly smirk.
“what do you want Kieran, only time you come to me is when you want something” her voice filled with ice.
“Just to talk with you and Asema, that’s all, am I not allowed?” he pretended to be wounded.
The coldness between them kept growing as we sat, feeling like a artic atmosphere. I was starting to feel very odd and wanted to leave but I stayed to support Emily.
“Did you receive a letter from Mum and Papa? Or did you throw it away? Like you do with the rest?” Emily voice was sharp.
“I did get a letter, though I am not surprised she is missing” Kieran stated as if it was a matter of fact.
“Of course not, because you don’t give a damn” Emily replied rolling her eyes.
Kieran rested his elbows on the table, “Emily, we have like over forty siblings, how can you even notice if one is even dead or missing?” Kieran raised his eyebrows at her.
She gave a baffled face, “Kieran…Mum and Papa know everything about us” she replied, well more so she spat.
“Hmmm” Kieran hummed but didn’t agree, but gave a curious smile, not a friendly smile, “So they must know that you are seeing a commoner or specifically shall I say someone who was given our scholarship fund as a lottery?”
Emily went paper white, she opened her mouth but closed it, he had silenced her which made me feel even awkward but rose.
Soon after a moment of silence, “They don’t know or even heard about it--,”
“Are you sure about that” Kieran cut her off
She was silent again.
I really wanted to leave but a pull was there.
“You are lying,” Emily stated and her face was now gaining colour.
“Whatever you want to believe sis” he mocked her and rose up from his seat and walked way brining the tension away from us.
I brought my attention back to Emily and she was looking back at me.
“Are you okay? And what was that all about?” I whispered.
She huffed a sigh, “he is the only siblings in the entire family that does not get along with any of us,” Emily said shaking her head.
“Besides,” she piped up again, “I will never understand why he refused to come to Sky High now.”
Refusal to come
“Wait,” I started a bit puzzled, “What do you mean till now”
She prompted herself, “Kieran is the eldest for and he had refused to come to Sky High or any other Sky High school, out of complete defiance, he agreed to come recently two years ago,” she sighed.
Then stared at me dead centre, “Asema he is very manipulative towards people, which is why I had to think about my little secret. Kieran knows where to hit the spot and make you question things as well make you do stupid things” Emily was glaring at me.
I nodded in understanding, “is that why no one cares for him?” curiosity hit me.
“One of the main things” Emily said then gestured us to leave. I followed her.
“Why do you guys have different last names?” I asked, we now were outside wrapping ourselves up as the brickly cold was biting.
“He just wanted to change his last name” Emily replied not really putting any thought or emotion in it.
“when I first met him.” I started slowly as I felt she should know, “he approached me a in creepy way, it looked as if he wanted to have some fun, he just made me feel uneasy.”
Emily head shot up with her eyes meeting mine and stopped us by a building that blocked the wind. Her stare was fear.
“Did he do anything to you?”
“no… just made me feel uneasy” I replied.
Emily stared at me then moved and we walked again. She scratched her head like she needed to think about something.
We both walked in silence, then she spoke but it was about something totally random stuff, allowing us to forget what had happened in the last couple of moments. We discussed homework to classes and how learning was for me, Emily was truly amazing, since with her I realized how she has helped a smooth transition. I took comfort in that.
We arrived at our room and walked through it getting comfy. Emily went and laid on her bed while I strolled over to my dresser and stopped as there was a hand written note there, it wasn’t big but the writing was unique almost a struggle to write in the language that I understood. I lifted it up and read it.
5:30 by the fountain, meet me there?
-Wolf
“What are you reading?” Emily asked.
I looked up at her, “it is from Wolf, he wants to meet by the fountain.”
She gave me expressive smile and I returned it with a glare. She laughed and I relaxed.
“So when are you meeting him?”
“Around five thirty, so I have some time” and laid on my bed.
“So” Emily burst up and was hopping on her bed making the mattress squeeze against her weight. “How is reading laws and history?”
“Okay I guess” shrugging my shoulders.
“Read any prophecies?” she intrigued.
“No,”
Emily jumped from her bad, “well in that case,” she went to the bookshelf and ran back to me holding a small black leather book that was quite thing. “Here take mine, you should read them.”
She hopped on my bed as I took it and inspected it the cover. The leather looked worn yet new, but placed I placed it on my night stand.
“Question” I hesitated, waiting on her response and she acknowledge.
“You say your parents care for every bit of your siblings, yet your siblings don’t for Kieran, are your parents forced to like him or least one siblings must like him?”
She looked me in the eyes with her blazing red eyes, they looked as if she were to cry.
“My parents love him, but there is something not right about him, no one can could put their finger on it. Something unusual about him. My siblings do love him but honestly if it came to saving him…no one would help.”
I guess he was really that bad.
“He realized this and soon banished himself and began a new life in the human world.”
I lightly touched Emily hand to show affection and comfort, she smiled in appreciation. She rose up and strolled over to the couch and laid there lounging and started to read. I peered over the at the book Emily gave me and picked it up feeling the leather how the material was unique, against my fingertips.
“Why are the prophecies in a book?”
Emily gazed up at me, “Honestly, I don’t know but…the ones in red are fulfilled awhile ones in black are not or and if you see one appearing a prophecy is being told. Don’t worry there aren’t many,” she assured me at the end.
I smiled and nodded.
I opened it and skimmed through not really taking anything in. Just seeing a few red and mostly black. Making me believe it was a magic book.
Sun was setting reminding me the time was coming sooner then expected. I jumped off the bed and waved goodbye to Emily. She waved back and I was out of the door heading to the fountain to which I found looked radiant against the sunset. I saw on the stone wall of the fountain but soon found myself leaning against the brick wall that separated me from the sky. I could hear the water dribbling in the distance. I started to wonder why Wolf wanted to meet here.
Soon I heard footsteps approaching and I turned my direction to see Wolf. He was wearing black shirt and blue jean trousers that fit him nicely. He walked over to me and stood beside me leaning on the wall as well.
“So why did you want to meet up?” I asked and half turned to him.
He turned to me, “I wanted to see you, how was your day?” he smiled.
“It was okay, I guess a bit weird but not horrible,” I replied.
“Interesting, it is true, Kieran acknowledge Emily at the dinner hall?”
“Yes…but I don’t want to remember that” I confessed, remembering that chilling moment.
“It’s okay…just wanted to see you and make sure you were okay.”
I smiled and gave a charming grin and slid closer to him.
“Also this” he whispered and soon he found my lips. His embrace was warm and soft, my head was not spinning luckily, so much this time. It almost felt I was being brought to a different world.
I found my hands tracing up his chest and felt the warmth that gave an electric pulse. His hands were on my hips and stayed almost like he didn’t want to hurt me.The pine scent was strong but a familiar soothing scent. Moment later passed which felt longer, he pulled away and I found myself lowering my heels to the ground.
As we broke apart, I didn’t realize our breathing was heavy but we looked at one another and smiled. The moment would have been nicer is someone hadn’t cleared his throat behind Wolf.
We brought our attention to him.
Kieran
“So, I see you found yourself a stink of a mate,” Kieran slowly put his disgust in the voice.
“And I see you found a way to creep out a woman” Wolf shot back while Kieran who was staring me down. But I was shocked as I to hear the remark from him.
Kieran eyes slowly glazed over to Wolf, “Aren’t you animals always the greatest to deal with” and smirked at his own statement.
Suddenly I found Wolf standing in a protective way towards me. “Kieran, she did not come here to meet up with you, rather she came here to meet with me, because I asked her kindly. So as a gentleman, if you even have those qualities, please leave us alone,” He took a long breath chugging as much air as he could almost as if calming himself. “She rather have peace without you pestering her.”
I quickly shifted my gaze to Kieran and from the looks of it he wasn’t please. He brought his gaze back to me.
“Sorry” he cocked his head, “am I causing you problems?” a sincere question but something was hidden within it.
“Yes” I replied, “and you keep causing trouble until you leave” I tried using my voice of power.
“Well, I am sorry if I caused any harm to you,” he smiled again, that sent unnerving chills down my spine. Kieran brought his gaze to back Wolf and Kieran smiled faded. I was looking at Wolf’s back wondering what made Kieran almost seem afraid. An answer soon came when I heard a deep low growl, something you hear from a wolf when they want to protect something.
I glanced back, Kieran who actually looked as he had fear. He backed away and soon walked away and out of sight. Wolf turned around and faced me and now I understand why there was fear.
Wolf eyes were glowing a gold green, and I felt safe as he gave a enchanting look as he felt like he was not part of this world. Or ever was in the first place.
“Sorry about this” Wolf said and his eyes went back to normal.
I didn’t say anything, I just leaned against the wall and smiled at him, a silent thank you.
