Unknown Darkness (2)

Chapter 18

Wolf

They had arrived late evening at the residence with slamming of the door and Asema collapsing onto the bed in the room assigned to her. Wolf did not know how to feel, only questions came to his mind. He played Asema stunts over and over again in his head. She was strong he had to admit, but could not understand how she was radiating light and still herself when training with Kieran.

She should have been cloaked in uneasy darkness and some behaviour should have occurred in her. Asema would be different wrapped in evil, but she was pure. As if Kieran brought more of the good out of her than darkness. Especially if she had to fight for her freedom or survival of being sane.

“Asema…” He started, closing the door behind him as he followed up the stairs. Wondering why he was even talking at all, “Did you feel any different when training with Kieran?” he asked, joining her on the bed.

She looked up at him as he made his way to sit down by her dipping the bed causing a shift in seating. She slumped back down making the bed and pillow puff out from her weight.

“Fight for freedom, don’t let mercy in… it’s all I remember and all I did with Kieran… considering that is how he fought” she sighed, but her voice was a bit more shaky. Sounding like she was trying to hide her terror. Wolf placed a hand over hers squeezing letting her know she was okay and with him.

“You almost sliced open a warrior on the field when your course was done and…what did you hear that caused you do that” He questioned again, wanting to get to the bottom of it but didn’t want to push.

Asema rolled onto her side facing the window that brought what was left of the sun in the evening shine into the room and steady calmness in her voice. Wolf prepared himself for the answer.

“I had to have many senses, the ones that you taught me, but I had to make them stronger. Always be prepared, even if it’s the littlest thing like him hugging me. I just had to be prepared or I would have to go numb and let him do his dirty work.” Her voice shaking.

Wolf was beginning to feel sick to his stomach again, nausea developing. He desperately wanted her to feel safe knowing that Kieran was far from getting them.

Asema rolled more onto her front and Wolf reached out and began rubbing her back, something soothing. She flinched a bit, making him pause, but soon she relaxed digging back down into the sheets.

Wolf was just being gentle and caring, he would never do anything to hurt her.

He soon found himself lying beside her, feeling her body heat radiate against his. He was still rubbing her back and that was all.

She soon faced him and he saw, that she was pale with a bit of colour. Though he couldn’t say for sure considering she was only a silhouette and few features were not visible.

“Don’t worry, I am just here if you need,” He spoke softly. And slowly entwined his fingers with hers.

“Thank you for everything…” She started. Wolf staring her in the eyes. “…even though our plans did not go the way it seemed….” she paused for brief moment. “You’re stuck with me, through thick and thin, I hope” her voice soft at the end.

Wolf cock his head up and slowly brought himself onto his elbow propping himself just little over her. Slowly reaching out his hand softly pushing a hair back behind her ear and leaning just a bit too lightly brush his lips to her temple.

“I love you” He whispered softly.

“I love you too.”

Asema

It was not quite light out but when waking up the morning light had strange red to it. Fluttering my eyes open, I did not feel quite awake rather I felt drowsy and nothing felt real around me. I turned to see if Wolf was in bed and all I saw was an empty side with rumpled sheets. That was odd but I guess he was just getting some things ready for us. I slowly turned my feet towards the ground and almost gasped at how warm it was. Usually, it is cold from the ocean temperature.

I quickly reached under the bed to find some slippers that could still look like shoes. Slipped them on and began to walking towards the window and looked out.

My entire body loss feeling as the city was on fire, people were screaming and I could see Red warriors running around fighting successfully the Warriors of Kadea off.

There were bodies lying in the streets some were students and other the Kadea’s warriors laying there crumbled and lifeless. I stretch my view little bit more but the distance I could see red smoke and people screaming while tripping over dead bodies. Blood was creating streams on the roads, and I could not count how many lifeless figures where just laying down.

What was happening?

I spun away from the window and ran for it towards the staircase but halted at the balcony looking down as I found someone I wish was dead.

Kieran.

He was standing by the front door facing Wolf. I gaze went to who Wolf did not seem to be moving rather he looked limped and Kieran seemed satisfied.

My stomach clenched and I felt something very wrong. Kieran must have sensed me as his eyes landed me and turned to show me a side view of what he done.

He had plunged a sliver bronze knife into Wolf. Slowly taking the knife out with it dripping of dark red silvery blood and throwing Wolf’s limp body across the room. I looked at the Wolf who had no light in him, he was crumpled figure on the floor.

I didn’t know what to do or comprehend what just happened. A dark shadow had come across my life and I felt utter despair. The blood draining from his body, creating a pool around him slowly.

Tears were starting to form and I could feel my body weakening. I wanted to hug him and just hold him but my body seemed stationed in its place refusing to move on command. My body stayed glued to the railing upstairs.

I looked back to Kieran who was smiling and then was up on the staircase right in front of me. Breathing sickly onto me.

Guess your mine.

I shot straight up in bed gasping and crying as warm streams of wetness fell down my face. Feeling my neck and face and burying myself into my hands beginning to sob. A hand was gentle placed on my back making me jump and hit Wolf in the face. He stammered back holding his face now in wide eyes.

“Asema… your safe… shhh” He said coming back in first second time to touch me but cautiously this time.

My breathing was still fast and I was wrapped up in adrenaline. As the only thing I could hear was my heartbeat and breathing.

“But.. But.. You were killed… and died” I gasped trying to get air into my lungs.

“Asema… a dream… you are safe” Wolf repeated towards me.

It took a awhile for Wolf to fully hug me and calm me down. I was still shaking and sobbing when by the time Wolf laid us back down. Trying to rest softly on his chest which was going up and down. While his hand was rubbing my back.

This is real….this is real.’
