Unknown Darkness (2)

Chapter 17.1

We entered onto the field and saw warriors doing a course by jumping up walls, swinging on poles and avoiding traps. Jump from a platform to the next. Climbing rope with another warrior holding on.

“How hard have you pushed these guys?” I asked Brock.

“They are assigned to protect royals, and keep school and cities safe, we push knowing they should take on anything,” Brock replied returning back to his cold attitude.

“There have been times in battle where I have almost died because how much I endured. People training here is not meant to be easy. We the warriors have fought in many different climates and situation that is makes this course look like a piece of cake.” He said muttering off the rest of it as it was something painful, he had to remember.

“So, what is the plan?” I questioned him, Wolf joined was by my side and squeezed my hand.

“I will train you, along with Wolf if he likes,” indicating a proposal to Wolf who nodded his head that he agreed. “But I need to see something first…” Brock voice trailed off.

I continued to watch the warriors on the course flip, jump and fight, their sweat building up as it glistened against the sun. I did not know whether to applaud them or stay in wonder.

I looked up and around the field house and could hear all the men punching objects and grunting because of climbing something or enduring something such as change of practice.

“What do you want to see” I asked.

“I want to see how strong you actually are, and if you need to get anger out from your experience…as when you fought us” Brock gaze went to Wolf who stood beside but behind me, “you showed angered and mainly self -defence on not wanting to be touched.”

I was taken aback, “oh, I never realized…”

“understandable” he replied with a murmur.

“So what is it I am supposed to do” I inquired.

Brock watched a few men, as if he didn’t hear what I originally said. I was about to ask again when he spoke.

“We will teach you everything, even if it means working you hard to the bone.”

Then I pointed at the course and the warriors in training. “Like these guys,” I had a feeling something about my training would be different.

Brock shorted a huff and nodded, “exactly like these guys.” his voice told otherwise.

“What do you mean?” Wolf finally asked. I had almost forgotten he stood with us.

“It’s simple” Brock spoke as if he was spelling it out for Wolf “We will teach her to fight, she wants to learn so why stop?”

Wolf turned me to face him, as the warriors back ground noise began to fade telling me that they were taking breaks now. “You sure you want this?”

I nodded, “Something to help, and keep me distracted from Junior. Or to get to him sooner back to us.”

“Okay,” Wolf replied, his voice understanding with softness but I could tell he was worried.

Brock spoke up, “Take Asema to the change room and prepare her in warriors clothing or whatever you can find that fits her.” he commanded Wolf..

Wolf took my hand and led me to changing room where he and I had to scatter and look for some clothing that would fit as most of it was men’s wear.

Eventually we found some that somewhat fit nice. I could move and squat without feeling awkward or baggy in it.

“After this, I am getting my own clothing, something that actually fits my body” I stated to him.

Wolf only chuckled.

Returning to the field, had a weird atmosphere to it Everyone seemed quiet, and only a few warriors were there standing amongst Brock as he was talking to them. They stood still and nodded occasionally to whatever Brock was saying. When we approached him, he turned waving away the warriors who didn’t scatter far.

“Asema… your course for today will take on these men” he gesture to the few who stood afar, “while trying to get through the course we prepared for you.” He said gestured to the open field.

It started out like general course with wall climbing, high ropes, a climbing rope, blocks a few feet high to jump, seemed like the same from what I saw when we arrived watching the warriors go about their business. I looked at Brock confused.

“I don’t see the challenge here, its the same as what they do. I though you wanted me to do something different?” instantly regretting my words.

“You show potential meaning that there is more to what you fight, you are fighting for freedom but you also fight for mercy and balance” Brock gestured to the course again, “These type of skills will help me understand what type of fighter you are” Brock said sternly.

I could tell now he was not joking and meant every word, assuming from what he did today and what we had to encounter this morning with the red warriors. This was my ticket to getting our son back and defeating Kieran.

“Where do I start?”

Brock smiled then pointed to the small crown of warriors behind him.

“Get through them first, then you can start your course.”

I looked at the men behind him, he was not joking they looked ready to fight. I nodded knowing this was not going to be easy. I sighed and started forwards. But Wolf grabbed my wrist. I looked back at him

“Keep your head clear, and at anytime you can not pursue, just yell shout” Wolf urged me.

I smiled at him.

“Thank you I appreciate that” I replied, showing a assuring smile. He put his lips into a thin line and nodded. Slowly loosening his grip on wrist.

I started forward.

Wolf.

He felt so uneasy about this, he wasn’t sure why or what even brought it on. He trusted her but something about her fighting was off with him. He knew she wanted to help and be the best but he just could not be sure this should be the way. From the sounds of it Kieran had pushed her to limits and doing this training would not be anything rather just a walk in the park for her.

He watched her approach the warriors, they stood there ready for anything as Asema approached them. This is it, all things will come down hill he just knew it.
