Chapter The Misery of Memories
“Oh my god, Tara please wake up!” said Fiare crouching over his best friend with his hands hovering over his chest. He took a deep breath. “La saka ma laki ka tomb,” he chanted. Small golden like swirled around Tara. “La saka ma laki ka tomb,” he said again. The light intensified and then faded. Fiare stopped and stood up punching a piece of rock. He slid his back against it and collapsed into violent sobbing, “she’s dead and it is all my fault,” he cried. “Fiare?” said an unknown voice. Fiare lifted his head and ran to Tara’s side. He grasped her hand, “Fiare?″ Tara said weakly. “Yes! Yes Tara,” he cried. “Nisha needs to be stopped. Tell them about Bolt, Stop her please... for me? I...love...you....fire boy,” she responded with a weak laugh, and with that, she let out her last, shuddering breath and her hand fell limply to her side. Fiare started to cry as flowers and vines formed around her body. Fiare picked up one of the flowers, cupping it in his hand he hugged it to his chest as it slowly turned into ash. “I love you too,” he whispered and bent down to kiss his younger sister’s forehead and he walked away silently. “Aamir, where are you going?” said Adilah, still petting Dari who had now collapsed at her feet. “Fiare needs a hug,” he said. Adilah chuckled and grabbed his wrist, “I think Fiare wants to be alone plus we need to help Flame,” she responded using his arm to help herself up and with that, they walked over to the limp body of the centaur.
Fiare walked holding another flower trying to stay calm so as not to burn it. He closed his eyes, ”Tara come on! We’re gonna get in trouble!!” yelled Fiare at the spider that was sitting on his hand. “Set me down scaredy-cat,” said the spider in a high-pitched voice. Fiare set down the spider and crossed her arm, “I’m not a scaredy-cat,” he said. Tara turned back into a human wearing a white blouse with flowers at the top, green sweatpants, and leaves braided into her hair. “Yes you are,″ she said. “Now can we please go scare Ms. Korad? we never get to have any fun.”
“Yes, we do!” Fiare retorted. Tara gave him a look, “ugh fine.” Tara started jumping, “YEEEESSSS!!!” Fiare rolled his eyes. There was rustling in the bushes. “She’s coming,” Tara said with a giggle. She shifted into a spider as Fiare climbed a tree with her soon scurrying up after. “Three, two one!” Fiare whispered and soon the spider fell onto poor Ms. Korad below. “AHHHH!!” she screamed, swatting at her head. Tara jumped off, morphing into a human and crashing onto the floor laughing. Fiare opened his eyes with tears streaking his face. He clutched the flower closer and closed them again. The rain pattered down in the forest Fiare hugged Tara close using heat to keep them warm. “Fiare,” she said softly. “Did you tell Aenon yet?” she asked. Tara was the only one that Fiare had told about his crush on Aenon. He was worried that the others wouldn’t approve, especially his parents, so he kept it a secret but now he might as well have said it because he gets so awkward around the young water elder. “Well...” he said. “So no,” Tara said. Fiare sighed, “no,” his shoulders sagged. Tara nudged him and then huddled closer, “you’ll do it when you’re ready,” Fiare got warmer lost in his own thoughts. Tara started to shiver and he realized the rain had picked up and her lips had turned blue. He brought the blanket over her even more which he kept dry by evaporating the water. Tara stopped shivering and fell asleep on his shoulder to the light patter of the rain on the ground, the calls of the forest, and the uneasiness that after his ceremony, things would never be the same again. Fiare had walked far from the palace now filled with anger at Nisha for taking the life of his younger sister, “You’ll pay,” he said, staring off into the distance. “Oh will I?” said a voice behind him with an evil coldness that gave him goosebumps. He wished that voice was all too familiar, Nisha. Fiare turned around his necklace of coals turning red. “How could you,” he screamed at her. “You killed her! The one elder, the youngest that liked you, tried with you, and you- you ruined it!” His tousled hair swayed in the warm breeze. “That wasn’t supposed to happen,” Nisha responded in a calm, icy voice. “Well, it did. You’re lucky I’m not burning holes in your chest,” he said roughly with fire dancing around his fingertips. Nisha’s eyes went wide and she looked nervous, “You were supposed to heal her. You were the target. Not Tara. you were the one that was supposed to die.” Bitterness started to rise in her voice as she spoke. Fiare felt like he was hit in the face with a snowball made of nightmares and ice. He took a breath and blinked. “HOW DOES THAT MAKE ANYTHING BETTER? YOU STILL KILLED HER AND THEN TRIED TO KILL ME AND MY DAUGHTER. YOU IDIOTIC, PCHYCOTIC SORRY EXCUSE FOR A HUMAN BEING!” he cried. Nisha sighed and spoke calmly.“I’m not a human, nor an idiot. I got my revenge on you; and did you notice? No. so what do you do now? You spend your sweet time in this hellish land. And let me tell you, you don’t have much of that sweet time left.” Nisha stood, “Where is she?” Fiare’s eyes began to radiate a fiery glow ¨Why should I tell you? So you can kill her again?¨ his fists clenched. “Where. is. she?” Nisha repeated her voice sending an icy chill over the ground.“You don’t seem to understand Fiare, telling me is not an option, it’s a command.” she hissed in his ear. Fiare took a shaky breath “I’m not going to tell you where Tara is. And even if I did take you to her...she’s dead.” he stifled his sobs. His chest shaking and his lip starting to quiver. He forced his emotion down and faced her with fury and hurt in his brown eyes.
“Fine. You won’t help me I’ll find her cold, dead, alone body by myself and we will give her the burial she deserves. Over the Jagged Cliffs, right after I have removed her elder crystal. This peaceful Remaria is soon going to be the worst nightmare but my favorite dream,” she cackled and with that, she disappeared.
