Chapter 47
Rick couldn’t believe that he’d actually let Abigail walk out like that, especially after she told him she’d fallen in love with him. He also couldn’t believe that the one thing she’s asked of him, the one thing he was sure of, he couldn’t seem to say. What the hell was wrong with him? He just remembered calling Jason and explaining to him what had happened. Jason had told him that he would go over to see her and sort things out so when Jason called later, Rick wasn’t surprised.’
“How is she? Is she okay?” Rick asked before Jason could speak.
“Hold on a minute, Rick. She’s fine. She’s mad as hell with you, but she’s okay otherwise.” Jason stated.
“Damnit! I couldn’t tell her Jason.” Rick said, “I couldn’t seem to get the words out my mouth.”
“I can’t believe that you’re in love with her.” Jason admitted, “I mean I can see why you’d fall in love with her. I was there once myself but I can’t believe that you, Rick Camden, have actually fallen in love.”
“I know.” Rick said on a sigh, “I guess that’s why it’s so hard for me to say it.”
“Could be.” Jason agreed, “You do need to tell her how you feel though, Rick.”
“Yeah, yeah.” He heard the doorbell ring then and glanced at the monitor. “I gotta go Jas. Someone’s here.”
“Okay, I’ll talk to you later.” He hung up then.
“Mr .Camden. a Miss Sara Martinez is here to see you.” The guard replied through the intercom.
“Send her in.” Rick answered, his eyes narrowing.
Minutes later, he was letting her into his house.
“If you’re here to see Abby, I’m sorry to say that she’s not here right now.” Rick said as he closed the door behind her.
Sara turned to smile at him.
“Trouble in paradise?” she asked arching an eyebrow. When he didn’t answer, her smile widened, “Actually, I’m here to see you.”
In LA..
Abigail was unpacking her stuff when she came across her folder that held the notes of Rick’s case. She opened it and found a list of phone numbers that she kept just in case she needed them. At the side of the phone numbers had a tick next to all the BB. She ran her finger down the list and her finger stopped at AJ. She figured she needed someone to talk to and since she and Sara had gotten close why not her?
She dialled AJ’s number at home, hoping to catch Sara there. AJ answered on the second ring.
“Hi AJ. It’s Abigail.”
“Hey girl. How’s it going?” he asked, his husky voice cheerful.
“Not so good. Is Sara there? Can I speak to her?”
There was a pause on the other end of the phone.
“AJ?”
“Yeah, um, Sara told me that you called yesterday and that you wanted to see her so she left for Florida. I thought she’d be there by now. She isn’t with you?” AJ panicked.
“Actually AJ, I’m not in Florida. I’m back home in LA.” Abigail told him confused.
“Then why would she lie?” AJ asked, but Abigail’s mind was already racing.
“OhmyGod! AJ, I gotta go!” Abigail literally shouted into the receiver and hung up. She shoved stuff back into her bag. “OhmyGod! OhmyGod!” Why didn’t she see it before? She reached for the receiver and dialled Rick’s number.
“Come on Rick…” she prodded as she heard the phone ring and ring…
“You have to pick up.” But the phone continued to ring.
