Together Forever

Chapter 7

"Who the fuck is that Nick?"

I hear a familiar voice and finally get the courage to open my eyes just to see him staring at me furiously. His one hand is wrapped around my waist and the other is on the back of my head. His eyes are burning with anger but should I say he is still looking hot!

He is holding me so tightly that my body is pressed against his. His face is just in front of mine, his hot breath fences my face. For the close proximity, every time he exhales a breath, I feel like a gust of fire wind is hitting me.

Why do we always have to be this close?

"Speak. up. Evelyn." His angry voice brings me out of my trance.

What the hell did I even do to make him angry?

"What did you ask? I forgot." I say slowly.

Call me dumb but I really forgot. It's so difficult to remember something in this kind of hot weather. I mean the temperature is pretty cool outside, 11 degrees celsius. But in the position I am in now, I am feeling so hot.

"I asked who Nick is?" He grits.

God, where has the flirty guy gone? He is looking furious now.

"How do you know him?" I ask.

"I don't know that is why I am asking right? Now answer me."

That's right.

But why the sudden interest in Nick?

"Nick is my best friend," I reply as soon as his brown eyes instantly flare up with vicious rage and that look really scares me. He grips my face in a firm grip and moves his face dangerously close, "Don't lie to me." He whispers in a harsh voice causing a shiver to run down my spine.

"I... I am n-not lying. He is my friend. What else would he be?" I stutter.

"He is your boyfriend, isn't he?"

Boyfriend?!

What the hell!

I mean what kinda hell is this?

I really can't understand anything. What in the world made him think that?

"What? No, why would he be my boyfriend?" I exclaim.

He closes his eyes and then flutters them open and this time I see more anger on his face.

"Then why the fuck he kissed you?" He barks, my mouth gapes hearing him.

"Ho...how did you know that?"

"Really? How did I know right?" He mocks, "Let me tell you that you were so excited to mingle with your boyfriend that you even forgot to cut the call. And I accidentally overheard everything."

GOD DAMN IT!

That's the case.

Now I remember when I saw the jet landing I was too excited and just shoved the phone without cutting the call. And when Nick kissed me, I scolded him then Ethan heard us. But so what? Can't a friend kiss on the cheek? It's cheek for hell's sake.

Even if he thinks that Nick is my boyfriend, there's nothing for him to get angry. Not that I want one but I have the right to have a boyfriend, right?

"Why aren't you trusting me? He is just my friend, nothing else, and that kiss..."

He tightens his grip on my waist as he barks again,

"Yes, that fucking kiss! Why did he kiss you if he is just your 'friend'? If he is not your boyfriend?"

That's when it strikes me. He is interrogating me like I committed a crime. Nobody ever even scolded me and here he is yelling at my face.

This is completely my personal matter. He doesn't have any right to enter inside. Did I want him to give me the list of his girlfriends? It's not that I don't know he has a new girl with him every other day but I didn't ask anything. He shouldn't either.

Now I am feeling bad to let him behave like that with me this whole time.

I remove my hand from his shoulder and push him hard to which he stumbles back a little looking at me taken aback.

"How dare you talk to me like that, Ethan? What the hell is your problem with Nick? Even if he is my boyfriend and even if he kissed me, so? Who are you to ask me an explanation?" I yell at him.

"So you are confessing he is your boyfriend?" He asks me in a low voice with an unknown expression on his face.

He stands in front of me for a while scrutinizing my face then averts his gaze. His expression changes as he runs towards his desk with a clenched jaw and eyes that are suffusing fire. Before I understand anything, he grabs the flower vase and chucks it against the wall with so much force. I let out a gasp as the vase breaks apart with a crashing sound and pieces of broken glass scatter throughout the place in a glimpse.

Not sparing a glance at the mess he just made, he stomps towards the wall before him and to my very shock, starts hitting the wall more forcefully than people punch the damn punching bag.

I rush towards him and by the time I reach him I am sure that he has already got various bruises.

"Ethan! Stop." I shout trying to catch hold of his hand but he pushes me away. His breathing is heavy, sweats forming on his forehead.

"Go away." He shouts back as he tries to take his now wounded hand out of my hold.

"Your hand is bleeding. Can't you see?"

"Why do you care? Just go."

"Shut up and listen to me," I shout at the top of my lung, and finally, he stops struggling.

I pull him towards the couch and make him sit there. I see the first aid kit on the shelf and take the box out and walk back to him. Sitting beside him, I place his hand on my lap and start wiping the blood slowly.

I put antiseptic on his wound but he doesn't even flinch once as if he can't feel anything. Blowing gently, I bandage his hand, and all the while his eyes remain glued to my face.

After I am done, I look around the office which is now a full mess. Broken glass is shattered all over the place.

"Why did you do all of this?" I ask and he snaps his head towards me.

"I don't know anything. I don't know why I did these. I just felt like. I feel like ruining everything and it's all for you. Everything is happening for you. You understand?"

"What have I done?

"You are confusing me from the very first day. That's what you have been doing so far."

"I am confusing you? It's you who is always arguing with me. It's you who is always acting weird. Look at this." I say pointing to the mess, "You did this actually for no reason at all. Why did you ask me about my personal life? I can have a boyfriend but that's not your matter to think about. You forgot that. You are always forgetting what our relationship is. Everything is happening for you. And now you're saying I am responsible for all. Really?" I retort as he gives me an enraged look in return.

He budges his head angrily, "Oh yeah, you are right. I tend to forget that you are just a freaking business partner of mine. That I shouldn't have asked you about your oh-so-loving 'boyfriend'. Why one, you can have a thousand boyfriends if you want. I don't fucking care. And don't worry. From now on, I will keep it in mind..."

The ring of my phone interrupts him. I give him a hatred look and pull out my phone from the pocket and Nick's name pops up on the screen.

Great timing Nicki!

I glance at him to see him staring at my phone with a clenched jaw and raging eyes. He looks like now all he wants to do is to snatch it from me and throw it to the ground of this God knows how many stories this building has. Suddenly he gets up from his seat and walks off towards the window trampling the pieces of glass on the way.

How would I make him believe that Nick is not my boyfriend? I don't think of him as anything more than just a friend. And he likes Leah, maybe loves her. I have never had a boyfriend and never will. I sigh and receive the call,

"Hello, Nicki?"

"Baby, what happened? Why do you sound upset?"

"Nothing. I am alright."

"I know when you are lying. Anyway, when are you coming?"

"I am not sure."

"We are waiting, we have a surprise for you."

"What surprise?"

"It won't remain a surprise if I tell you now. So I am not telling you. I am sure you will like it. Come quick."

"OK."

"Love you, baby."

Oh, Nicki, you are not making it easier for me.

"Love you too," I say and hurriedly take a glance at Ethan.

If looks could ignite the fire, then the look he is giving me now would be enough to burn me down right here.

Cutting the call, I stand up and move towards him.

"What do you need to talk about?" I ask in a steely voice.

"Too eager, I see." He mutters.

"Yes, eager. I would rather spend my time with family than to see your temper tantrum being here. Do you have any problems? I don't think you should."

"No, I don't." He shakes his head making a blank face, "And for what I called you, right. Actually, I think now it's not the condition to talk. I will tell Matt to discuss the matter with you tomorrow in the office. I have already wasted your precious personal time. I am sorry for the interruption." He replies, anger pouring out of his words.

"Alright. It's not a problem if you really understand what we really are. Just keep in mind that I don't have to remind you not to interfere in my personal life again." I say and leave the office immediately without casting him another glance.

He is too much. I didn't want to behave like that with him but he forced me. I told him the truth and he disbelieved me. Well, he can think whatever the hell he wants to. I shouldn't bother me with it. After all, I wanted to make everything up but then again he accused me of all of this.

I thought that we could be friends but I was wrong. He doesn't know what friendship means. It would have been better if I just kept everything in business but I didn't. It's my fault thinking of him as a friend. Friends do listen to each other but he doesn't. I got foolish seeing his good behavior but that was temporary. He is not different. He is the way I heard him. Our friendship hadn't even started and now it is over.

Everything is finished.

Everything is.0‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒
