Chapter 6
"Hello, Evie?"
"Yeah."
"Where are you now? When is he coming?"
"I am in my car. He will be happy if I pick him up from the airport. So I am on my way. Why, Lee? Can't wait to see my handsome friend?"
"I am not a bit interested. I was just asking." She tries to defend herself.
"Hmm... I trust you."
"Stop mocking me and focus on driving. Bye."
"Bye. Your 'soon to be boyfriend' is coming." I chuckle and hear a growl from the other side.
I am going to pick up my friend, Nick. He is my other best friend. He is 2 years older than me, lives in Los Angeles, handling their family business. His father and my father are best buddies from the time they were teenagers. And now we are.
His naughtiness has no boundaries. From childhood, he has been making my life hell. Even though he's so naughty and he puts me in so many troubles like dying my hair blue, pouring pink color on my white dress, and so on, I love him. He is someone one can not but love.
He has had a huge crush on Leah since he was a teenager but for the fear of rejection, he is still away from her flirting with other girls. Poor guy!
But I don't think Leah doesn't like him. She is just trying to hide her feelings I can feel that by her reaction whenever I talk about Nick. I asked her many times, every time she just ignored me. I just can't get it if they really like each other, what is the need to act like heartbroken Romeo and Juliet? Can't they just confess their feelings?
But now there is a chance. Nick is not going to stop his torments on me so quickly that means he's here for some days. Maybe they will confess this time otherwise I will burst the bubbles myself. Yeah.
I reach the airport and park my car in a quiet place. I don't want to draw any attention at least now. Getting out of the car, I look around and lean against it, shoving my hands into the pockets of my jeans. He hasn't reached yet. Let's wait then.
My phone rings in my purse again. I open the purse and take out the phone. A smile creeps upon my lips looking at the caller ID. Yesterday in the meeting, the flirty guy changed into the full professional again. wonder how many concealments he has.
I receive the call and he speaks up,
"Where are you? You are not in your office because I called Cathie and she said you left a while ago." He asks in a demanding voice.
"Who are you? My husband?" I think to myself as I mentally roll my eyes.
"Why? Is there any need?" I ask.
"Yeah. I need you to come to my office."
"Why?"
"Come first then we will talk."
"Ok I will go but it will be a little late. I am in the airport." I reply looking around.
"What are you doing there?"
"I am here to pick someone up."
"Who?"
He is boundless curious, isn't he?
"Nick."
His voice changes as he asks,
"Who is Nick?"
"Nick is my be..." -
I hear a sound and my head snaps in the direction. My eyes fall on the jet and I instantly recognize it's Nick's.
I walk forward to get a better view when the door opens and his face comes out.
With astonishing green eyes, dirty blond hair, and a strong muscular body accompanied by a height of 6"2', he is someone all girls swoon over except for me. Of course, I see him just as my friend. Moreover, Nick has something for Leah and I have no that kind of feelings for him. I don't think I will ever grow those feelings for anyone.
Nick's eyes fall on me and his face lightens up. He starts running towards me grinning and I stand there still. I know what is coming next!
"Evie, my baby. I missed you so much." He shouts as he gives me a bone-crushing hug, lifts me, and starts swirling me around.
"Nicki, please, put me down. My head is spinning." I say loudly and wrap my arms around his shoulder tightly not to fall.
Finally, he puts me down and gives me a chubby kiss on my cheek.
Am I a six months baby?
"Eww...Nicki. I don't like kisses you know." I exclaim as I wipe my face with my palm.
I told him a thousand times not to kiss me or hug me like that. I mean like a maniac. But who's gonna listen to me?
"I really missed you." He gives me an innocent smile and ruffles my hair. Soon I find myself smiling back at him.
"I missed you too," I say as he makes a pout.
"But it didn't seem so. You didn't tell me you came here. I had to hear from my uncle."
"Um... sorry, Nicki. I was so busy with work. I'm sorry. I will give you chocolates. Please smile." I pull his cheeks.
"Ok, ok, apology accepted. Now stop pulling or my cheeks will fall off. Ouch! Stop."
I remove my hands smiling, "Thank you. Let's go home."
He nods while rubbing his cheeks slowly.
We reach my car and hop inside.
"So, how is everything going on?" I ask, starting the engine.
He snorts, "Not good. Business is not my thing. I just hate it. Meeting and running and talking, God knows how you can do all these bullshits happily! And you know what is the scariest thing?" He asks with an agape mouth as if the Great Wall of China has been destroyed.
"What?"
"I have to wear suits! Fucking suits! My sexy biceps have to be covered up. Do you have any idea how fucking it hurts?" He shouts placing his hand on his chest.
I roll my eyes at him. He is always like this. A tight short sleeve t-shirt with ripped jeans and messy hair is the uniform of which boy; suits are really very dreadful for him.
But handsome is always handsome. For example, Ethan is always suited booted but no need to mention, dazzling as hell.
Oh my God, how did Ethan even come here?
I really need to get him out of my mind.
"Nicki, I can't go home now. I will drop you home and then go to my work. Sorry." I tell him.
"It's okay. No problem. I know my boss' girl loves work." He jokes.
"Yeah, I think you would also like that. Leah is waiting for you. Didn't you miss her?" I ask, smirking as he turns his head around and looks out of the window.
"Why would I miss her? Evie, it's not what you are thinking." He replies sternly.
"Hmm, I really trust both of you, so funny." I shake my head disappointingly.
"What do you mean by that?" He frowns.
"I mean that you like her but you are not confessing because you are so coward of a boy," I state.
"What..." Nick gives me a surprised look and tries to say something but I cut him off.
"Yeah yeah I know, I am very straightforward. You don't have to remind me." I say with pride and he rolls his eyes at me.
"Now get lost! We are home." I say as I stop the car in front of our apartment building. "Go and meet your Juliet but don't faint ok? She is more beautiful now." I joke.
Opening the door, he gets out of the car and turns around.
"You are evil, but I love you." Nick smiles and pecks my forehead.
"I love you too," I say and bid him bye.
After he enters the building, I start my car and drive towards Jones Industries.
After a 20 minutes drive, I reach his office. Parking the car, I get out and my eyes fall on the tremendous skyscraper in front of me. How scary!
The whole building is made of blue glass walls which are shining for the bright sunlight. There is a water fountain in front of the main gate while the whole place is surrounded by flower beds of various flowers.
I enter through the big glass doors and as soon as I step inside, all the sounds stop as everyone looks at me with an open mouth and wide eyes. I can say by their face that they are afraid of me.
What the hell? Do I look like a witch with a broomstick?
I approach the reception and see there a girl with blonde hair staring at me standing and without moving.
"Which floor is Ethan Jones?" I ask straight.
"Top floor." The girl answers in a shaky voice as I nod.
I enter the elevator and press the button of the top floor. The door closes and I shove my phone into my pocket after checking the time.
After what feels like an eternity, the doors open with a sound, and I step out.
What a view!
I stare at the mind-numbing scenery in front of me through the big glass walls. The whole place is lit up by the direct sunlight and medium-size swiss cheese plant trees are placed on either side in a row. The hallway is long and quiet. Seems like he uses the floor all alone.
I follow the instructions and reach his office. I knock on the door and he says to enter in an angry voice.
Why is he suddenly angry?
I open the door and enter inside. Closing the door, just when I am about to turn around, an arm grabs my hand and pins me against the wall catching me off guard.
