To My Shattered Soul

Chapter A Glimpse

That girl I just told you about? She became my friend, her name is Amanda.

When I was taken back to my room, I kept thinking about the words that came out of my mouth, who said that to me? Who’s the person that keeps popping up in my mind but only a glimpse?

“I need to get that paper somehow” I kept telling myself.

One day when I was going back to my room I saw a door half open to the medical.

Amanda was walking beside me. “They keep all our stuff in there” She whispered in my ear.

And that was the time when an idea clicked in my brain. I knew what to do.

But unfortunately, when the next morning came, the nurse who slapped me didn’t come. Her name is Barbra by the way, and the worst thing was, she took the keys with her.

Usually when she’s around things get harder around us, she keeps an eye on us.

Keeping a record of everything, how loud a person is cackling, how much breathing we do.

But when she wasn’t around, things went better.

So that day all of the girls from my level started playing, they were acting like children, I was having fun with them, and I became friendly with most of the girls.

There is an old woman with us, her name is Hilda, another girl Sydney who chopped off her hair just for fun and she says she’s a thief.

“Thievery is an art, not an ordinary person has the art to unlock doors without keys and drive cars they just stole with perfection” this is what she says.

While Hilda claims to be a good chef, she says when she is free from here she will invite us all to her house and she will bake pies for us, she says she’s very good at making pies.

Amanda says she’s been saying that for more than a year now, but I must admit she’s been in that institution for 5 years and she’s still hopeful, and it is admirable.

Her courage gave me strength and another idea came to my mind, I acted as if I was fainting and I fell on the ground, it was painful when my arm hit the ground.

Well, Amanda started yelling at another nurse to get help for me, she was a small woman, and carrying me could make her die of a heart attack, she rushed out of that room leaving her report behind.

As soon as she left I signaled Sydney to unlock the medical room. She was right when she said not everyone can unlock the door without keys, she pulled out the paper pin from the report and within just 2 minutes the door was unlocked.

We rushed in and I searched everywhere but I couldn’t find that paper. I was hopeless now.

“Hey, it’s my Timmy!” Amanda pulled out a small teddy bear from inside of a drawer.

That’s when my eyes stopped on a coat hanging rack, my coat was there, I reached it as my heart started pounding faster.

“Quick she’s coming back!” Hilda panicked.

I quickly pushed my hand under the pocket of that coat and as soon as I pulled it out there was a paper in my hand, I took a sigh of relief.

We quickly got out and we held our positions just as we were before.

“Why we were in there?” Sydney asked.

“Just for fun!” Amanda was grinding her teeth as she heard the sound of someone climbing down the stairs.

“How is she?” The nurse asked.

I moaned and slowly turned my head toward her “I can’t move” I mumbled.

“Carry her!” She said and two ward boys carried me all the way to my room.

I played numb, while I felt like a little kitten being carried in its sleep.

As they locked me inside my room, I took out the paper from under the belt loop of my trousers.

I held it in my hand as my heart started jumping again, I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.

I slowly unwrapped it and saw something written on it “Daisy! I know you wanted me to draw something for you. So I picked up my pencil, to draw your face as you slept peacefully, but my hands are shaking, I can draw anything but you! You make me nervous, happy, alive, all at once you are the hardest creation of the creator, You give me chills even with your sleeping eyes.

So I am drawing something that represents you.” That paper said but there was no drawing.

As I slowly turned the page back, with my half-open eyes I saw a sketch of a ship drawn with a pink color.

It was a ship just like the one I saw in my vision, but it was covered by high sea waves, and then there was something written under it.

“This is you! Standing alone in the storm of everything you face, and you still stand tall, as strong, as beautiful as you are! Your and yours forever, Peter.”

I realized I dripped multiple tears on that paper, and a big flood of memories struck me.

I saw him standing in front of me when he placed his hand on mine when he said “I would never leave you alone!”

All his cackles, his face when he used to watch movies with me when he used to look at me, when his eyes squint while he smiles, the way he used to encourage me.

I broke down on my knees and I started crying with my eyes closed shut.

Now I knew what that number meant to me.

You know when someone has had enough and he or she raise their voice against it? There’s no way to shut that person’s mouth ever again! And this is exactly what happened to me, I pulled my breath all together and I started screaming again, much louder screams that could shake the depth of the earth and could bring down the sky.
