Chapter 1236 No Surprise
The next day, Jenny woke up feeling much better. She could get out of bed on her own, though it still posed a little bit of a challenge to her. Across from her, Alec fared worse as he even had trouble sitting up. Seeing this, she slowly got out of bed and went to Alec's bedside.
"Let me help you," she offered.
"No need. Your injury isn't fully healed yet. Let Vincent do it instead," Alec said with a wave of his hand. However, before he could finish, Jenny had already helped him up.
"My injury wasn't that severe, to begin with. I've recovered a lot in the past two days. There's really nothing to worry about," Jenny said.
Right then, Alec was leaning against the headboard, looking helpless as he said, "I know you want to take care of me personally, but there's no need to be so anxious. There will be plenty of opportunities in the future."
Jenny rolled her eyes at him and thought Alec was quite the jokester. He had just recovered a bit, and he was already spouting nonsense. When Vincent knocked on the door and came in, Jenny and Alec were already lying on the same bed. For a moment, he scolded himself internally for barging in at the wrong time.
"Vincent," Jenny quickly called out to him as he turned to leave. "Were there any leads on the driver?"
She and Alec were just chatting on the bed and hadn't done anything inappropriate. If Vincent left right away, she thought he might get the wrong impression.
Vincent loosened his hand from the door handle and turned back to face the two of them.
"Yes, Miss Walter. I just found out that the driver is actually Anthony's underling."
As soon as he said that, Jenny and Alec exchanged a look, instantly understanding what had happened. She thought she had made herself clear before. If Anthony was smart, he wouldn't cause trouble, but she didn't expect him to be so bold and uncouth.
They didn't say anything, so Vincent continued, "We couldn't find anything before because the driver wasn't considered a member of the Wardleys. He was brought in by Anthony himself from the outside and didn't have much of a presence, so he wasn't noticed at first."
After Jenny reminded him to investigate again, he did a thorough search and discovered the connection between the driver and Anthony, confirming that he was indeed acting under Anthony's orders. "I knew it. It wasn't an accident." Jenny gritted her teeth; the result was just as she had expected.
Alec's expression was equally gloomy. He looked at Vincent and ordered, "The Wardleys have several projects on hand, right? Spread the word that whoever dares to work with them will be against me and the Fausts."
"And also the Walters," Jenny added.
Vincent nodded, understanding Alec's orders. This time, the Wardleys were likely to be expunged from Bardoff City.
Soon, Vincent turned around and left the ward, and Jenny was once again pulled into Alec's embrace.
"Sorry, I put you in danger this time," he apologized, feeling guilty. Jenny wouldn't have been in danger if it weren't for him. Alec blamed himself immensely.
"What are you talking about? Anthony may not have targeted you solely," she reasoned. Although she had no dealings with Anthony, she felt that someone like him wouldn't just let her go after their previous unpleasant conversation.
Alec held her tightly. "Fortunately, you're okay."
"Don't worry. I'll be fine. But as for you, don't be so foolish in the future." Jenny pressed her lips together into a taut line. Although she was fine, if something happened to Alec because of her, she felt that she would never be able to let it go. She didn't want to see him in trouble either.
Alec's lips curled up into a smile as his mood lightened. "I'm not foolish. Protecting you is something I'll always be willing to do, not to mention...I won your heart because of this. Now that I think about it, I'm the ultimate benefactor."
He felt that Jenny was obviously more concerned about him after the accident.
