Chapter 1229 The Driver Is Dead
When Jenny opened her eyes again, it was already the third day after the car accident. Although Alec had shielded her from the impact at that time, she still suffered significant injuries. Looking at the white ceiling above her, Jenny felt momentarily confused and was unable to react.
Stephanie pushed the door open and entered, intending to check on Jenny's condition. When she saw Jenny's opened eyes, she burst into tears of joy. "Jenny, you're awake!"
"Yeah," Jenny responded weakly, her voice hoarse and barely able to croak the word.
Seeing that, Stephanie quickly brought her some water so that she could take a small sip. Jenny felt much more comfortable after hydrating her throat.
She asked Stephanie to help her sit up against the headboard and slowly came to her senses. "Where is Alec?"
Stephanie's expression became a little apprehensive at her question, but she didn't hide anything from her best friend. "He's still in the ICU."
Hearing that, Jenny's complexion paled in response. She was already lacking in color, but now her face became even whiter and more frightening.
"Don't worry. Your parents have found him the best doctors. As long as he can make it through these next two days, he'll be fine," Stephanie comforted her.
Jenny forced a bitter smile. She didn't know what to say.
If Alec hadn't turned the steering wheel to the right at that time, she would be the one lying in the ICU now. Initially, the big truck was coming straight at her, but Alec turned the steering wheel and managed to steer her away from the devastating impact.
"What about that driver..."
"He's already dead," Stephanie answered.
Jenny's face was gloomy. She didn't think it was an accident. "Who was he?"
"It seems like he was just a thug. He seemed to be drunk at the time." Stephanie replied. She didn't know the details either. She'd been taking care of Jenny these past few days and hadn't paid much attention to other things.
Jenny didn't ask any further. The most important thing for her was to wait for Alec to wake up. As for the culprit behind it, she would hunt them down later.
"Steph, help me get to the ICU. I want to see him," Jenny requested and tried to get up. She couldn't feel at ease without seeing Alec.
This time, Stephanie didn't agree with her. She stopped Jenny swiftly. "You just recovered! You can't get out of bed."
"I know my body. There's nothing wrong with it," Jenny insisted.
"No, you can't. Anyway, you can't do anything by going to Alec's side now. You can't even get into the ICU." Stephanie was equally insistent. She felt that Jenny should rest well for the time being. Jenny felt helpless, as she couldn't walk to the ICU alone without Stephanie's support.
When she was stressing over what to do, the door to her ward opened again. This time, Gilbert and Zack walked in.
"Jenny? When did you wake up?" Both of their expressions lit up when they saw she was awake. They'd been feeling guilty for the past few days, ever since Jenny had been lying in bed due to the accident. Recently, they had both been busy with their own affairs. Zack had been staying by Janet's side every day, while Gilbert had been busy making money because he'd given all his liquid assets to Marigold. As a result, they had both neglected caring for Jenny, and they didn't expect something like that to happen.
When Jenny saw the two of them, she instantly asked for their help, hoping they would indulge her. "I woke up a while ago. Can you help me get to the ICU, please?"
Jenny looked at Gilbert pitifully, only to have Gilbert frown back at her. He knew why Jenny wanted to go there. He deduced that Alec was probably there.
"You just woke up. It's not good for you to get out of bed and walk around. You should rest more." Gilbert refused her outrightly.
Jenny was about to say something, but Gilbert interrupted her, "Alec's situation is very stable, so there shouldn't be any problems. What you need to do now is to get better as soon as possible."
