Chapter 1394
Chapter 1394 Gilbert and Marigold (69)
Marigold was miserable throughout dinner, but she persevered till the end without being too dramatic.
After dinner, they walked to the entrance of the shopping mall.
Gilbert went to get the car. Lottie stood with Jenny and Marigold. Watching Gilbert leave, she turned toward Marigold. “I heard
that you used to like Gilbert very much.*
‘It’s all in the past. It’s not worth mentioning.” Marigold didn’t want to talk about it. She was afraid that Lottie would see that she
still liked Gilbert. Most importantly, she was afraid that Gilbert’s plan would be ruined.
Lottie smiled. “That’s true. The past is the past. You’re such a nice person. You’ll definitely be able to find someone better suited
for you in the future.”
Marigold pursed her lips.
Gilbert soon brought the car over. Lottie was about to get into the car, but before she did, she suddenly turned to Marigold and
said, “Gilbert and my engagement party will be in a few days’ time. If you have the time, you’re more than welcome to come and
witness our love for each other.”
After that, she sat in the passenger seat, not even bothering to look at Marigold’s face.
The car started and drove away, disappearing from Marigold’s sight. She looked as if she had been struck by lightning as she
stared after the car.
Jenny wanted to curse her out. Lottie had done it on purpose!
“Marigold...” she said, gnashing her teeth. She was worried about Marigold.
Marigold snapped out of her trance and looked at Jenny. “Is that true?” Engagement party?
Gilbert had told her that he would never marry Lottie. But now...
Maybe in Gilbert’s eyes, it was only an engagement. It didn’t mean they were going to marry.
But to Marigold, an engagement meant that they would marry in the future.
“Gilbert has no choice. Esther refuses to let him be in power and insists that he be engaged to Lottie before giving him the
position,” Jenny said, trying her hardest to explain Gilbert’s actions.
But now, Marigold had completely lost faith in Gilbert. ’No other choice? Oh yes, he has it very hard indeed.” She smiled bitterly
and walked away.
Jenny was worried for her safety but didn’t want to bother her. Hence, she tagged behind Marigold quietly.
Before Gilbert had started the car, he’d heard what Lottie said to Marigold.
But he had no choice but to keep it together and back to Marigold. Jenny had given him their location, so he found her very
quickly.
Marigold was on the streets. She didn’t know where to go. Then, a car honked behind her. She looked over and saw Gilbert’s
face. Anger surged in her chest at once. She quickened her footsteps, not wanting to see him.
Gilbert had no choice but to stop the car and run after her. “Marigold!” he said, pulling her back.
“Let go!” She tried to get away from him to no avail.
Gilbert knew she was miserable, so he hurriedly explained, “It’s just an engagement. Once I get engaged, I’ll be in the position to
subdue the Bradshaws.”
“Oh, really? What if I don’t believe you?” Gilbert kept saying that, but
Marigold had already lost all her trust in him.
Gilbert was panicking, especially when he saw how she was being. “Get into my car. I’ll send you home.”
“No!”
“Caleb is waiting for you at home,” Gilbert said.
At once, Marigold’s head cleared. That was true. She had a child to take care of. How could she give up hope over a man? Even
without Gilbert, she had to live on with her child
